Darren Archibald, F, 20, 6-3, 195, 57-26-33-59-62, Barrie (OHL). Archibald is a big, physical forward who has been consistently productive in his past two OHL seasons. He also tried out for a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets last year.

Alex Cord, D, 18, 6-2, 195, 38-1-8-9-48, Oakville (Ont. Jr. A). Cord is a two-way defenseman who had a 10-game OHL audition with Mississauga but spent most of the year at the junior A level in Oakville.

Antonin Honejsek, F, 19, 6-0, 180, 67-16-24-40-18, Moose Jaw (WHL). The Czech-born winger came to North America last season and collected 16 goals among 40 points with Moose Jaw. He is a skilled forward who was ranked 124th among North Americans by Central Scouting.

Stephen Johnston, F, 20, 6-1, 190, 18-4-5-9-19, Windsor (OHL). Johnston is a known commodity as a 2008 draft choice of the Red Wings who didn't earn a contract. Injuries have prevented him from breaking through at the junior level, and this is likely his last chance.

Trevor Parkes, F, 19, 6-1, 180, 66-27-20-47-34, Montreal (QMJHL). Parkes had an impressive QMJHL rookie campaign with Montreal, potting 27 goals among 47 points. The 19-year-old only found his way onto Montreal's roster after being passed over in the OHL draft twice.

Marc Zanetti, D, 19, 6-0, 200, 68-4-22-26-74, Ottawa (OHL). Zanetti is a physical defenseman who isn't afraid to drop the gloves. The 6-foot 200-pounder has racked up 176 penalty minutes during his first two OHL seasons with Ottawa.

All these players are playing for entry-level contracts given their ages. Unless they pull a Tatar type of performance in training camp, any of these guys that are signed will go back to juniors. Detroit is right up against the 50 man limit, and players playing in juniors do not count against this limit. Though I am not sure about Archibald and Johnston, as they are 20, but I would think they still have a year of eligibility left in juniors and would be sent there instead of the minors.

I don't know much about any of these players, except Johnston. I hope he does well as it seems he has a good work ethic and would fight into the Wings system of a 3rd/4th liner, but has been unlucky in the injury department.

Seems like the wings are trying to get physical, tough defenseman in the system. Cord played a very tough game at the prospect tourny and the wings have offered a tryout to Zanetti. 6' 200 is good size for a guy that age. I hope both of them can get contracts, then hopefully next season when Cord is full time in the OHL next year he really impresses

Seems like a pretty big hitter. That Clifford is an a pretty solid enforcer in the OHL and Zanetti hammered him. Doesn't seem like the best fighter but he will fight at least
