Its nearly time for the prospects tourney at Traverse city and I was wondering who you guys think will surprise us.

I think Callahan will put up solid number and a few fights which should have everyone here happy.

Ferraro getting to a new team and having a good camp shold have him coming out playing great hockey.

I just have a feeling Cord's very powerful game will have everyone surprised at how well he battles in corners and lays big hits. Wouldn't be surprised if he has a fight or two as well.

I'm also interested to see Skinner play against bigger, more NHL ready guys. Mcilrath should be destroying people, I'm expecting pietragelo to tear it up out there and I want to see if Stevie Y's first pick Connolly is really as great as people are saying.

I'm thinking there will be a lot of fights, this has to be one of the tougher prospect teams we've sent in a while. Callahan, Cord, Archibald, Zanetti and even guys like Lashoff, Piche, Aubry, Smith and Ferraro can throw a big hit or will drop the gloves and do alright. Seems like our prospect group has toughened up as of late.

EDIT: Would also like to point out there are only 5 guys under 6 feet no the roster and 4 of them are 5'11. Thats what I like to see.

Hopefully guys like Callahan and Archibald impress. This group of prospects is a little meaner than in years past. I'm not am expert on the prospects tournament, but will these guys get AHL contracts if they impress? I remember reading that Callahan could either play in Grand Rapids or go back to the WHL, I believe. If Smith, Ferraro, Zanetti,or Archibald impress, will they get AHL contracts to join the Griffins next year or what?

Smith is heading for GR, that's a certainty, while Landon Ferraro is heading back to the WHL regardless. I'm not sure on Zanetti and Archibald, of those two I'd say the latter might be headed for GR as he's played quite a few seasons in the juniors and might be ready to graduate.

why aren't nyquist and almqvist at the prospects tourney??

i think raedeke is going to impress along with andersson as far as shutdown guys go. coetzee is a guy i'm interested to see more of. he seems to have some good potential. hopefully tatar tears s*** up.

I'm thinking Nyquist isn't there because he is an NCAA player and would have to pay for himself. As for AA, I know he just got done playing in the Hlinka for Sweden and maybe has some World Junior stuff to take care of, maybe a Swede like Mindfly could chime in there, he seems to know what hes talking about when it comes to Swedish prospects

wasn't nyquist signed to an entry level contract? either way, i'm sure the wings would pay to get him to and from the camp if he wanted to participate. him, sheahan and tatar are hopefully going to be forces for the wings for years to come once they get up to the team, so it would be good to see as much of them as we can. i hope almqvist and jarnkrok are both on the WJ Sweden team and tear s*** up good in the tourney.
