Nhurdi 42 Report post Posted October 26, 2010 I know it's early yet but out of the gate the Central division teams seem to be having some stellar play. If the playoffs started today all 5 times would be in. Is this a sign that our division is the most competitive division in the league right now and potentially for the year or just fluke that will balance out? Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 26, 2010 (edited) The Central has been more competitive than most people realize these past two or three seasons. I remember a couple years ago late in the regular season looking at the standings and being shocked that all five teams still had a strong chance of making the post-season. Its tough to say which division is toughest, especially this early, but I've always considered the Central as being up there for the past two seasons or so. Edit: I just looked it up and 2008-2009 four of the five Central teams made the playoffs with Nashville being three points out. Last year St. Louis and Columbus both missed the playoffs. St. Louis was 5 points out and Columbus was a bottom feeder. Edited October 26, 2010 by Echolalia
Din758 371 Report post Posted October 26, 2010 Columbus is the only crap team in our division. Detroit, Chicago, and Nashville are all no brainers to make the playoffs, and I think St Louis also has a great shot because they finally have some solid goaltending. The central has always kind of been the standard to me. I think the only other division that could be in this discussion would be the atlantic besides the devils having a rough start. NYI is looking scary this year...

NYI is looking scary this year... I used to always put the Northwest up there, but this season it seems a lot easier than it usually is. (Calgary, Minnesota and Edmonton not playoff teams imo, Colorado if they're lucky) The pacific is competitive but still expecting the Sharks to take it. As for the East... I miss the days when the Northeast was the most competitive. Pre-lockout you had some solid rivalries between the Habs Sens and Leafs. Now most of them are bottom feeders. Unfortunately the Southeast still sucks. So Yea, the Atlantic and Central will probably be the toughest in the league this year. When we win the division again the bashers can't use their typical "Central division is weakest in the league though!"
