finally, the guy gets the credit he deserves. I am a huge Niemi fan, and all the guineas done in two short seasons in the NHL is pitch shutouts after shutout, win games, and win a Stanley Cup...this summer he didn't get the respect, and signed with San Jose at the end of the summer. nice then, he started off slowly (after playing a ton of hockey last year) but since Right around mid-December he has been the NHL's best goalie, statistically and from a record standpoint.

I am putting together the numbers since then, but they are staggering..

More to come..

Coming from Eklund, but it was confirmed by the CSN Bay Area.

*EDIT* It is $15.2 Mil. $3.8 mil cap hit. Could a mod change that up?

The cap hit probably is close to fair given his recent play plus the fact that he has a stanley cup, but a four year term on a goalie with so little history in the league is a risk. Guess you can just send him overseas if things don't work out ala Huet.

So much for following the Red Wings model.

They stopped doing that when they gave that big goofy doofus the C after Blake retired.

Capgeek says they'll have under $9 million to fill 9 spots next year, including the 3-4 defence pair. Good luck with that.

how does howard get 2.something mil per year and niemi gets 3.8? THEY'RE THE SAME ******* GOALIE!!! overpaid by about 1 mil per season. this is why the sharks are perennial chokers. they overpay and lack depth. what's gonna happen when they have to re-sign couture? lol at san jose's misfortune. so who gets traded next off season...thornton, marleau, heatley or boyle? or does niemi go to europe or the AHL?
