#2018536 Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Posted by Pucks on 23 July 2010 - 11:47 AM

Also I just wanted to point out that the 3rd line is going to be a scoring line this year with Hudler whether it's Modano, Helm, Abdelkader or whoever else. Last year it was a AHL line. Everybody's numbers are going to be a lot better this season with a healthy team.

Now I really am going outside. I don't want to end up with 20,000 posts on a message board, that's just all kinds of sad. No offense.

The parts in bold makes me laugh.

You make a LOT of baseless assumptions. Why would we lose Ritola for nothing?

Thanks I am a funny guy. Helm looks like a guy waiting to emerge to me. He has all the tools. I think he could even play a support role on a scoring line, with all that speed and forechecking ability. He may never get that chance here since it seems like we want him to go backwards instead of forwards.

Why might we lost Ritola for nothing? Well, in hockey there are 12 forward, have you looked at our roster if you add Modano, Helm and Abdelkader? Do the math if you can?

I've had my say, no point in arguing around in circles with the clones. It's a beautiful day, I'm going outside.

I watched Modano play about 20 games last year. He's A ghost of his former self, that's a fact. Maybe some of that was environment, maybe he would be excited and passionate to play here? No one knows. He looked like he quit on his team to me, from the games I watched. His own team want's to move on, that's exactly what the Wings should do.

A few extra goals from the 3rd spot? Big deal it's not worth it.

How does going after the top American goal scorer who while not being peak of his career is still very good exactly invalidate any of that or that they are the future of those roles on our team?

That's the problem isn't it? you had to speak about his past. He's not that player anymore, far from it. Helm would score much better this season with Hudler on his line and some stability. He can do everything we need from the 3rd line center, everything. Modano fits fine but we don't need him. We have to many forwards as it is. We probably lose Ritola for nothing and maybe more. Why to fill a spot that that's already occupied by a great young player? This isn't pre lockout, where you can sign a vet to play every position.

This is short sided thinking, it's a bad practice. I hope the guy just retires.

When they are going to be re-signed regardless, no it isn't.

Yeah it is. Look I can do it too. You post too much by the way, no need to be so controlling. Everyone is entitled to an opinion on the subjects of this board.

I'm pretty sure Helm and Abdelkader realize that this is the nature of business sometimes and I highly doubt they are being shunned and probably realize the value that Modano can bring to the team if he his signed.

Once again, Modano isn't sabatoging the Wings and once again, this is just something that fans in here are being too paranoid about and trying to make too much of a big deal out of.

I didn't say Modano was sabotaging the Wings, It's Kenny that's trying to fill holes we don't have. He's going to wonder why his next contract discussion with Helm
doesn't go so well.

It's zero concern. There is no reason they should feel that way at all and there is zero reason to think they do and if they did we want them to leave because they would never make it in the NHL much less an ultra competitive team like the Red Wings roster.

Seriously?.... Helm is a NHL caliber 3rd line center right now, right now. He will be that or more his entire career in the NHL, no matter where he plays. Abdelkader hasn't played a full year yet but he looks NHL caliber to me.

It's a concern.

Those who don't think Modano is holding up the contracts of Helm and Abdelkader are being naive. Of course that's the holdup. If I were those guys I'd want want short term deals if this is how they're treated. Eaves and Miller should have been signed after those guys and Modano should be last if there's anything left.

I'd hat to lose a decade of Helm or Abby for Modano on his last legs.

Before anyone cries, yes I understand that both will sign contracts, they have no leverage NOW, but when UFA comes? How would you feel at work if your boss kept shoving you to the bottom of the pile? It's a real concern if your able to think beyond today.

Wow now it's a two yr deal? Quick someone tell Holland to go watch some games of his from last year. He doesn't have much left to give anymore. He certainly doesn't warrant pushing Helm down to the third 4th line. Helm would pot at least 15 goals this year with Hudler on his line IMO.

At this point I'd be annoyed by the whole situation if I was Helm and Abdelkader. Those guys have put in their time. They deserve to get the spots and have an opportunity to excel just like Howard did. I hope this isn't what's holding up the contracts for those 2? They might start thinking they have to go to another team to get playing time.

This whole Modano thing just doesn't make sense? We got enough bottom 6 guys, hell I'd even consider Homer and Bert bottom six guys when they're struggling. But we do have some questions marks on D. That just seems like the more pressing need than a faded former star player on his last legs.

Abdelkader hasn't played 82 NHL games yet in a season. He'll likely struggle as he paces himself. It's understandable that they want a more reliable veteran in there.

And he never will if they keep signing washed up 40 yr olds to play in front of him. Hey I know lets sign Maltby and Chelios probably still wants to play I'm sure? we could sign him up again so we could lose Kindl on waivers. Makes total sense.

Funny how people talk about youth when Detroit's "veteran" team was able to beat one of the younger teams in the league back in 08.

Eh, f*** that. I WANT YOUNG PLAYERS!!

Honestly, you sound like the media after the 2001 playoffs. And last time I checked Holland was able to prove them wrong considering he knows more about the game and the players in his system than anyone on these forums.

Please don't respond to my posts, It's beyond moronic and we've done this dance before. I'm so sick of this "OMG WE WONZ DA CUP and can't do anything wrong mentality s***"

Chicago just won the cup and half their team just left because of poor management. DETROIT has lost good players from bad decisions just like that. To think otherwise shows a real lack of understanding. Some of it was cap related, some was NOT!

If Holland Signs Modano, it will mean losing a good young player (mistake). This has Chelios written all over it.

Aussie_Wing thanks for making sense in a thread where people are dreaming and making excuses. The entire league gets younger and faster, while we continue to sign every 40yr old that's up for free agency. WTF is going on here? Our you guys can play, just give them a f*cking chance.

It must be really tiresome to be a bottom six guy in the Red Wings organization. You get to play every single possible yr in the minors. Get squeezed for every cent come contract time. Get replaced by a 40 yr old every other season. Then finally you realize, you must go somewhere else to get a chance to play.

#2011823 RUMOR: Wings sign Modano

Posted by Pucks on 07 July 2010 - 09:40 AM

Please retire! This would be horrible for the young guys on this team. Absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. 1 yr would be awful, 2 yrs? rediculous. Someone tell Holland that Helm, Abdelkader, Ritola, Eaves, Miller all could play on this team for the next deacade. We don't need Modano, he's finished.

#2009615 Wings Sign Joey MacDonald

Groovy.

However, I'm going to kill the first person that comes on here and says send Osgood to the minors/adios Osgood something along those lines.

I see little reason to believe the goaltending situation for the Wings is going to change next season, Howard starting/Osgood backup in all likelihood.

Osgood to Grand rapids WOO HOO!

Hopefully, Babcock will manage his goaltenders better and give Howard 50-60 starts and Ozzie the remainder, if not more for Ozzie depending on performance. Play your goalie 70 regular season games and you won't go far in the playoffs.

Hopefully not. I'm hoping to take back the central this year.

If we sign Maltby or Modano I'm going out into the garage to hang myself.
