#2439948 Which (retired) *non* DetroitRedWings player would like to meet?

Posted by 55fan on 30 September 2013 - 11:39 AM

sidney crosby. simply because he is the best defensive and offensive player currently in the game. Datsyuk has NOTHING on him.

Considering that this column is about "retired" players, may your wish come true.

Mr. Wayne Gretzky.

#2382923 Official: Howard signs 6-year, $31.8m contract extension

Seems like overpayment. I like Howie and all but he's still prone to a lot of stinkers. Would rather some of that money go to upgrading the D.

5 mil for a top 5 goalie... Moveable contract too good job Ken

Lundqvist, Rinne, Miller, Luongo, Price, Ward, Andersson easily > Howard

5 Mill would be a huge huge overpayment in my eyes

#2377305 Mr Holland.....

Actually, we have too many mediocre players without heart.

I disagree, I think Abby, Miller, Eaves, Emmy, and even Cleary all bust their asses.  Unfortunately, they're all expected to fulfill roles on this team that their skill sets don't allow for.  Cleary should be a third line winger, Abby a fourth line center, Miller and Eaves fourth line wingers, and Emmy as the 13 forward.  Relying on anything more than that is going to get exposed pretty badly against teams with actual depth.

Sometimes teams have bad games. Did Vancouver suck for losing 8-3? Did Anaheim suck for losing 5-1?

Yeah, didn't think so.

We don't suck, but it's clear we don't have the personnel to compete against high end teams.  I hope that gets remedied, but who knows.

#2308325 NHL Awards

I guess nobody got the joke in my first post. :sarcasm:

I did.

It was as bad as some of the ones on the awards show tonight . :P

#2302567 What's the point of the crease?

Posted by DangleDangleBeach on 22 May 2012 - 09:11 AM

i would be more then lost without my crease. taking a crease away would almost be like taking the goalies stick away. as you move as a goalie your crease is kind of like your map where you always have a sense as to where you are relative to the net, by where your crease is under you. you would have to take it out in youth hockey and wait to enforce it in the nhl once all the old timers who were accustomed to the crease are gone. to just take howards crease away tomorrow would throw his entire game off, i promise.

#2301895 Iginla

No chance in hell Nysquist is out, especially for an older player. Iginla would be great, but they won't mortgage the future for instant gratification.

For a Cup?

Parise or bust.

#2301438 Alex Semin officially going to free agency

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 15 May 2012 - 10:30 AM

A lot of people are saying Semin has turned it around in terms of his work ethic, but I'd worried that he'd get a long term deal and he and Franzen would take turns seeing who could put in the least effort on a shift.

#2300620 Bettman wants to tout the "Original 12" now, haha

Posted by Hatethedrake! on 11 May 2012 - 05:52 AM

I'm just waiting for Bettman to make all 30 teams wear a 20th anniversary patch for the Nashville Predators celebrating their rich hockey history as one of the original 30. Bettman will say...The Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings both share a rich history of hockey tradition and these 2 teams should be the gold standard of how to be a successful hockey franchise. Then Bettman will honour past Red Wings greats like Howe, Yzerman, Lindsay, Delvecchio and Lidstrom. While at the same time past Preds legends such as Vokoun, Legwand, Tootoo and Erat will be honoured. Bettman will close the ceremony saying...THESE 2 HISTORIC FRANCHISES MIRROR EACH OTHER IN EVERY WAY and SHOULD BE PROUD TO BE A PART OF THE ORIGINAL 30.

I'm not particularly "offended" by this, and i'm not sure really what the rage is all about. He's not standing on a podium saying historically the original six is now the original twelve and throw the tradition of the original six out the window. He could call them part of "The First Expansion six" but that's just kind of dumb. If you want to get technical the Wings joined the league 15 years after Toronto and Boston, but neither of them are trying to claim they should be "The Original Two" or anything like that.

St. Louis is one of the first 12 NHL teams, just like Vancouver and Buffalo are part of the original 14, and so on and so forth. He isn't claiming to change the historical original six to the original twelve, I think the quotation was taken very out of context if you read it again, all that's being stated here is St. Louis was one of the first 12 teams to join the NHL, which in fact they were.

Guys I know it's the offseason and we are really bored, but come on. If I can be honest, they can market whatever they want, I remember growing up and there being a lot of speculation if there would even be an NHL in the future because of the lack of fan base and it was a struggling sport for a long time. Anything he does to improve the status of the sport, bring in more fans, and keep it afloat doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I don't even think it will go as far as a marketing scheme or anything like that. I think it was just a completely misinterpreted quotation from an article.

Just because, here's a timeline of the NHL teams and when they entered the NHL.

1917- Montreal, Toronto
1924- Boston
1926- Chicago, NYR
1932- Detroit
1967 (Expansion)- Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Dallas (Minnesota and California)
1970- Vancouver, Buffalo
1972- NYI, Caroliona (Hartford),Calgary (Atlanta)

1979- Colorado (Quebec), Edmonton, Phoenix (Winnipeg)
1991- San Jose
1992- Ottawa, Tampa Bay
1993- Anaheim, Florida
1998- Nashville
1999- Atlanta
2000- Minnesota, Columbus
