To be fair this team needs a year of missing the playoffs for appropriate changes to be made. With the streak intact, it will be a whole lot of playing it safe to just try and make the playoffs every year.

It's just sad if this is the way the wings are thinking ... Who's to say we can't be as good or better with a few kids in the lineups over these old bottom liners?

And illitch isn't getting any younger , does he really just care about getting in the playoffs and that's it?

It's pretty f***en sad that we have to hope for injuries just so the kids who should already be playing, be inserted into the lineup

What about ouellet sproul? Are we allowed to carry 8 d? It's 7 right?

I'd have to think we will trade a nyquist/Tatar for a dman , can't see sheahan on the 4th ... God I wish we could get rid of Ericsson , I'd much rather have ouellet and sproul in the lineup and see what we have with them and have ericsson gone

Ya I don't get the ott/Miller signings , signing helm to 3.85 cap hit assures us he's gonna be on the 2nd or 3rd line (don't get this signing either)

Signing vanek as well guarantees no matter what holland says to the media or how good mantha does in exhibition games that he will go back to Grand Rapids

I totally see a nyquist/Tatar being dealt for a fowler (much rather of had trouba, but don't have the pieces)

Sadly with all these signings I can see us losing pulkkinen jurco frk for nothing ... I just hope it's not literally nothing(rather give Andersson 2-3 7th rounders and more cracks at a gem pick than losing guys on waivers again)

I just hope jurco/frk dominates exhibition play and forces us to trade ott/Miller ... Mantha sadly with no worries about the waiver will start down in Grand Rapids

These charts aren't ridiculous. Of course they aren't the be-all, end-all, and shouldn't be the only thing used to evaluate players, but they are a very important tool. Just like you shouldn't just use point totals as an indicator of a players worth, or the eye-test, you shouldn't just use these HERO charts or any other single variation of data.
All of these advanced analytics are very new to a lot of people, and if you don't understand them, they can be pretty intimidating at first. I don't think it's a big deal if you don't understand them, but it is a problem if you flat out refuse to understand them. And I know for a fact there are some on here that will do whatever they can to avoid this "nonsense". Unfortunately for them, this nonsense is growing more and more, and soon enough you'll have to adapt with it. To me, it's really no different than when shots on goal started being tracked, or hits, or blocked shots. It's just a new way of tracking stats...
By the way, this isn't meant directly against you, nyquististhefuture, just at anyone that may not like these charts and advanced stats...

You think hakan Anderson used advanced analytics when he got us zetterberg and datsyuk? Holmstrom etc....

He used his eyes , saw the potential , saw the stick handling with his eyes, the playmaking, a players hustle and determination .... Charts don't tell you that stuff ... A players circumstance , mediocre linemates , lack of point totals playing on a bad team (and it doesn't mean just because someone has lot of points it means they are a good player ) etc...

Could some of these stats be useful ? Sure but they shouldn't determine whether or not you go after a player

Our issues never get solved, glut of undersized unproductive overpaid forwards, lack of defensive leadership, a failure to fix the defense, the needed trade that just never happens and a goalie that should have been traded last year.
This GM continues to focus his time on unproductive pieces (Helm, Miller, Cleary etc) while DeKeyser is yet to be signed. Really wish Yzerman was the GM and Holland would have moved upstairs,
out the door or wherever, what a mess.

Agree with most you said , but to be fair yzerman's job is a lot easier for him being in Tampa bay , easier to convince people to go/stay in sunny Tampa bay with less taxes than doing a job in Columbus or elsewhere

I'm too old to learn new tricks. What does any of this s*** mean?

Just analytics nonsense ... Can't judge a player just by charts

Then you should get this. When the Wings have young guys that can play, they play. When they have low draft picks that need seasoning, they are sent to the minors to to develop. You made my point for me. You're so focused on the overripe buzzword that you're missing the forest for the trees.
If the Wings drafted higher, if they drafted players with better natural, God-given talent, they wouldn't have to "overripen" kids. Larkin proved this. But if a kid has to spend 3-4 years in the AHL to develop, then, yeah, he's got to prove he can play in the NHL before he's promoted to full-time duty.

No s*** if we drafted a top 3 player they'd be playing but just because we don't doesn't mean every prospect has to wait 4 years in the minors .... Your telling me Tatar wasn't ready after 3 years In Grand Rapids?nyquist? Don't tell me they weren't ready

It's quite obvious Detroit has always preferred the veterans over younger talent ... Just look what they did now , they signed ott who hasn't been relevant in 7 years , signed vanek on the decline after they said mantha would be given every opportunity to make this team ( we both know that's not happening especially with Miller AND helm being resigned as well )

Ouellet is another kid who could of played last season but waited another year cause we give wastes like Ericsson longterm deals

I wish we could trade Ouellet, Pulks/Jurco, and a first for Fowler. Relieves some of the logjam at forward and gives up a defenseman who can play the puck and the point on the PP.

First? The way this team is headed that can end up being a top 5 pick , no way we can touch it now

The only way we were gonna improve this team was through trade ... These 3 signings just basically mean jurco pulkkinen are on the outs (probably waivers since we never get anything for our guys)

Mantha will probably start in Grand Rapids cause it's the wings way ... He'll use the "overripe" bulls*** excuse

Unless holland moves a nyquist say to get some defense, it's clear holland had to move out some pieces and some garbage we have (swear if he resigns Quincey)

Trade pieces

Nyquist Tatar
Ericsson Howard
Jurco pulkkinen
Ouellet smith
Mid level prospect(s)
Big prospect only if we get big return

Available players maybe

Brodin dumba
Trouba Barrie
Duchene landeskog
Ellis fowler

Not interested in shattenkirk with just one year left .... So let's help holland and make a few deals here since it's the only chance we have to compete within our division with everyone getting better

lol Toronto
Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 1m1 minute ago

Matt Martin to TOR. Four years. $2.5M AAV.

That's it? I thought holland offered 12 million for 4 years??

Wtf everyone in our division has literally done something to improve ... This isn't gonna be a fun year

#2680857 Darren Helm re-signed: 5 years, $3.85m AAV

God awful

This team will look pretty much the same , holland is way too loyal and I've finally have had enough of his same bulls*** the last 7 years

But it's ok guys Frans nielson is coming

Here comes another Weiss contract signing in Nielsen ... Swear to god if Kenny gives a 31 year old a 6-7 year deal at 5.5-6 per

Hedman "could" be a ufa next year , no point using up all our cap space now just cause we got some

As bad as the roster looks, and as bad as losing out on Stamkos is, it might be a blessing in disguise. We have to play young players now, we don't have a choice. No free agent that we could woo is going to make us a contender. At this point I wish Kenny would just buyout Ericsson and we go really young on the back end, a bump in the road for one reason during the retool could do a lot of good.

It's too bad the kids play in detroit only when we're forced to play them

#2680171 Stamkos to... Tampa

Posted by nyqvististhefuture on 29 June 2016 - 03:22 PM

Not surprised at all, called it a while back , couldn't see him leaving sunny Tampa, with less taxes and no media pressure ... Think it'll be good for the wings in the long run that we didn't land him

Time to make some deals , go for a trouba/brodin and maybe a hall if were lucky

At least the habs made an idiotic move today and I bet price leaves in 2 years so that'll be one less team for detroit to not worry about

How come no one talks about Erikson? I think he would be a great pickup if we miss out on Stamkos.

Ya I thought of him ... Plays good 2 way , swede ... Wouldn't surprise me at all if he was a redwing , just don't wanna give too much of a longterm deal to a 32 year old

5 yrs x 6 is the max I'd go for lucic , he's 28 now which means he'd be done at 33 and like mentioned previously his body will break down so no 6-7 yr deal , 5 years and I'd take a gamble , it would be nice to have someone to go around knocking people , + we got a ton of kids coming with small contracts so we can afford the risk

Still think our #1 priority is adding a defencmen through a trade .... I think it's highly unlikely trouba will get dealt but if we can convince the jets to trade him somehow he should be our number 1 target , after him I'd consider brodin as he's able to play 20+ a night , not put up big numbers but a reliable d

Think there's still some moves Kenny has to do outside of July 1st,I just hope it's just not losing a bunch of roster guys through waivers

Malmstrom wasn't ranked by any scouting services and there's little info on him , hakan Anderson found him in junior leagues so let's be hopeful it's another hakan home run

Your not understanding my initial point.
Who knows more about these players? Holland and co or you and I.
We all know the answer.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Fair enough ... Doesn't mean though every pick is right (I wish they were) and just because I'm some loser at home who happens to like someone and hope we draft that player , means that that said player will be a bust

But I get what your saying

C'mon Kenny Johnson...

Forward or dman? I know there's a Finnish forward makinen I had my eye on that wasn't drafted yet either
