#2549565 Former Wings coach/GM Bryan Murray has stage 4 cancer

Posted by pondrocket on 17 November 2014 - 04:08 PM

Heartbreaking!   Bryan Murray was the right guy at the right time to get things going in Detroit, again.  He gave allot and allong with Jimmy D made the turn that Wings fans enjoyed for over two decades.  Cheers to Bryan!  He is a good hockey man!

#2496267 Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Legwand and Alfie will return. No one else. Tata and Deke will be re-signed.

I'm worried about Quincey though. Holland might be afraid of missing out on another D-man and re-sign him as insurance.

If Holland does sign Quincy (I don't doubt that he could) I think every true Wings fan owes it to Mr. and Mrs. I to storm the Joe and leave with Holland's head on a stick.

#2490407 Official 2014 NHL Trade Deadline Thread

Posted by pondrocket on 05 March 2014 - 02:55 PM

Get a top four D man.  I don't care if they make the playoffs.  I want them to improve & the D is in bad shape.  Statistically Holland does not seem to be capable of trade strategy.  He has a solid enough draft mechanism but not so much a trader and our D needs 1 or 2 top 4 D.  Relying on the draft for this is unrealistic.

#2428211 Wings Attempting to Re-sign Cleary

Posted by pondrocket on 06 July 2013 - 06:39 PM

3 years????  Cleary must have pix of Babs & Kenny blowin donkeys; or Pauley Shore.

Haha. Yes, Steve "Who needs defense or goaltending?" Yzerman, whose team has bombed the past two seasons. He was left a capable team by his predecessor and has failed utterly to maintain it. Instead, he has ignored its needs and stocked it with bad contracts.

But hey... greener grass and all that, right?

Yep, Stevie is still early in his development as a GM.  Not ready for prime time yet.  I believe he will get there but not for years.

#2425191 Wings buy out Colaiacovo, will keep Bertuzzi

Posted by pondrocket on 03 July 2013 - 12:25 AM

So if we re-sign Brunner, Cleary, Nyquist, Andersson, and then sign Weiss, all while not buying out Sammy or Bert... doesn't that leave us with 3 or 4 too many forwards?

Something has to give, someone's gotta go. If it's Tatar or Nyquist who don't get a spot, I will be sub-pleased.

If Holland gives Cleary 3 mil x 3 years........ it wouldn't surprise me at all.  I think Holland should wear a helmet.

#2424798 Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per

Posted by pondrocket on 02 July 2013 - 03:53 PM

5 million a year is too steep?? WTF??

Maybe too steep when you're not willing to make any moves. HEH. I hope he proves me wrong.

I think the 5 mil is fine, but if he is really seeking more than 2 years I would be glad Kenny didn't action it.  I am skeptical about Holland though.  Three years is a long time to not bring in the top 3 D or a compliment  for the top 6.  We will see.

"We kicked the tires and decided a healthy Mike Samelsson and our comfort level with Val Filppula at five million worked best for our team."

HA!!!!!!!  I am terrified that this will be his statement or one equally disconnected from the teams needs.   "Helmer is going to bo our addition this year".

I really enjoyed the series.  Fast, physical & the Pens lost.

#2386153 4/17 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Flames 3

Posted by pondrocket on 17 April 2013 - 11:14 PM

Howard had a Sh** night.  But he is a good goalie & he has been there almost EVERY game he has played this year.  He absolutely contributed to this loss, but we are on the edge of the post season for soooooooo many reasons that have nothing to do with him.  We have way too many 4 liners, throughout this line up; And that... is the GM's responsibility to address. as it was last year & the year before.

BIg E nonchalant and our season might be over if we can't score.

Hey, Look at the bright side.  At least we don't have 7 million tied up in E & Quincy!

#2380073 Holland retirement watch?

Posted by pondrocket on 04 April 2013 - 01:30 AM

It seems like Holland retired 4 years ago.  Kenny will leave when he has a shot at managing Toronto.  Let's hope that is sooner than later.  Nobody that is ever great at anything is great forever (except Scotty).  Thank you Kenny for the great years & memories.  Those days are over, congrats!  Now GTFO,

#2379511 Mr Holland.....

Posted by pondrocket on 03 April 2013 - 02:02 PM

I don't think that Mike Ilitch is fully aware of much that's going on around him, sadly. Age has taken its toll.

Mike is completely aware.  Critique the teams performance, vent about your dissipointment it's all well and good.  We all appreciate th Wings and or hockey in general but to be so personally insulting about someone that has contributed to Hockey and fans of Detroit hockey is irresponsible.  It's too bad.

If Holland stands pat at this deadline, then I'm joining the "Fire Holland" crowd.

Welcome to the club

#2379492 Mr Holland.....

The business is doing just fine.

If becoming less significant, selling less merch (globally), drawing less in other arenas (compared to last 10 years), less attractive to free agents and being less competative is the definition of doing fine you have no concept of determining any business's health.  Cheers to you & to having enough time (clearly not being intimate with any business) to do another 10,000.00 posts.

#2379076 Mr Holland.....

Posted by pondrocket on 02 April 2013 - 11:30 PM

Teams are businesses. That's one reason why Holland is unwilling to trade away future assets: it's better business for a team to remai ncompetitive but not good enough to win it all than it is for teams to go far sometimes and tank the rest.

Exactly, if I allowed my teritory to to slip each year & I couldn't demonstrate that I was looking at my businesess in new ways & had a strategy to improve it & didn't execute any meaningful changes within three years.  I would be gone.  It is a business.

#2376423 Dreger: Wings 'very interested' in Bouwmeester *merged*

Posted by pondrocket on 30 March 2013 - 01:45 PM

Please no.... If he was 3,000,000. then fine if he played on the third pairing where E should be playing.  Rather do nothing than handcuff ourselves into something that prohibits our ability to get a top guy for the coming season.
