#2301473 Minecraft

I love Minecraft. It is pretty addicting and you can lose yourself in it for hours. Here's a pretty good review on Minecraft:

I prefer Survival mode as I like to work to get the materials I need for a project, whether a castle, a town, or a floating fortress.

#2254311 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium Finalized

Posted by commadore183 on 09 February 2012 - 02:20 PM

Dumbest. Decision. Ever. This is the Detroit Red Wings, not the Michigan Wolverines. The Winter Classic should be held in Detroit, not in an over-rated stadium that isn't even close to the Detroit city limits. I would rather the state of Michigan not have a Winter Classic than play it in a place other than Detroit. Hell, I'd rather Toronto host the WC than Ann Arbor. Hell, there's even an unused lot not far from Comerica that could be put to some use.

And I guess this puts to rest the idea that Illich supports the city of Detroit. This is a plain money grab by him. Period. He does not have Detroit's best interest at heart, or it would have been held at Comerica Park.

Detroit, once again, gets screwed out of a Winter Classic. f*** raw numbers, f*** the money, play the goddamn thing in Detroit or move it to Toronto. I certainly won't be watching it in 2013.

#2249028 Does the NHL suspend Toews?

Posted by commadore183 on 24 January 2012 - 03:40 PM

From what I remember of the Lidstrom/Datsyuk controversy, the rule at the time stated that a player had to miss either the game before or the game after the All-Star game if the player decides to not play in the All-Star game. As far as I knew, Lidstrom and Datsyuk (and Holland) were willing to sit out the game after the All-Star events. Then, Crosby announced that he was going to miss the All-Star activities due to an injury. The league then proceeded to change the rule so that you only had to attend the All-Star festivities to avoid a suspension by the league, a change that allowed Crosby to still attend the pomp and circumstances of the All-Star events, but not play in the actual game, so he escaped suspension. However, by the time the "reinterpretation" of the rule was announced, Datsyuk and Lidstrom were already out of the country and, thus, would not be able to attend the festivities.

To recap:
1) rule originally was "had to play in the ASG or skip game before/after or get suspended",
2) Datsyuk and Lidstrom announced they were skipping the ASG and will miss the game after,
3) Crosby announced he would skip the ASG,
4) rule suddenly reinterpreted as "had to attend AS festivities or skip game before/after or get suspended",
5) rule reinterpretation came too late for Datsyuk and Lidstrom, who were out of the country and unavailable,
6) Crosby was able to attend the festivities and avoid suspension/missing the next game,
7) Datsyuk and Lidstrom were forced to sit the game after the ASG, thus the s*** fit on LGW.

As far as I know, the rule is still "attend festivities or sit a game", unless they changed the rule again. However, as Toews will be missing the game before the ASG, he would not be suspended under any of the two interpretation of the rule.

#2244202 are we done giving conklin chances?

Since when is the Wings` play against the Islanders at all a major issue?

I'm pointing out the fact that, for some reason, the Islanders have our number lately. 4 goals in the last 4 seasons (shutout twice), and 17 goals against in that span. Maybe, just maybe, the Islanders put forth a better effort against the Wings than other teams.

2011-2012: 5-1 L
2010-2011: 4-3 L (OT)
2009-2010: 6-0 L
2008-2009: 2-0 L

Plus, it's one of those curiosities of sports that a team that is perceived as inferior to a chosen opponent beats said opponent for 4 straight years.

Whatever the case, Conklin isn't reliable.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Nabokov as a deadline pickup. It's no doubt enormously clear to Snow that he won't be re-signing in the offseason.

After the s*** Nabakov pulled when the Islanders picked him up, I don't want that self-absorbed kid on the team. We saw what happened when he didn't get his way. No thank you.

Besides the defense, how many goals have the Wings scored against the Islanders the past 4 seasons? 3? 4? Goaltending isn't the issue here.

#2242199 Realignment Not Occuring Next Year

Posted by commadore183 on 07 January 2012 - 02:20 PM

This all wouldn't have happened if the NHL did the right thing and just killed ATL. No realignment needed, especially if PHX were to go bankrupt. There isn't a need for 30 teams when many of them are having a hard time bringing money in. Plus, contraction would help the NHL by deepening the talent pool. No Winnipeg, no Phoenix, no problem.

#2232432 Mcdonald backing up Jimmy

Posted by commadore183 on 03 December 2011 - 11:15 PM

There's a reason MacDonald has only played 87 games in 5 seasons in the NHL. There's a reason he's spent more time in the AHL than the NHL. There's a reason the Wings signed Conklin instead of keeping/bringing MacDonald up. MacDonald is not an NHL calibre-goalie, not to the Detroit Red Wings standards. The most games he's started was 49 when he was with the NYI (2008-2009); outside of that, 15 was the most for him (2010-2011 DET season), then 8 (2006-2007 DET), 7 (06-07 BOS), 6 (09-10 TOR), and 2 (07-08 NYI). Other than the Islanders, all other teams he's played for have seen the same thing and came to the same conclusion: he's just not that good.

And as others have said, it's hard to get a good look at a new (or in Conks' case, returning) player when said player has only had 3 starts in 24 games this season. Kinda hard to get a groove going on that.

Conks' is here for the season. MacDonald (if I remember correctly) was lit up here at times for his play, and not in a good way. MacDonald has been, and will always be, a career AHL'er, with a few spot starts here if one of the Wings' goalies gets injured.

#2199393 Chris Osgood announces retirement

Posted by commadore183 on 19 July 2011 - 11:53 AM

Sucks that he's retiring as he's still near the top of his game. Either way, one of the best goalies the Wings have had in a while. You're not going to find another goalie of his caliber for the money he was making (less than $1M, I think). Thanks for the memories, Mr 400! See ya in the HHOF!

#2198741 Blackhawks star Kane has fractured wrist

Damn, he must've smacked the cabbie pretty hard this time around to fracture his wrist! :hehe:

Choking the chicken. Boxing the clown. Slammin' the ham. Dick-rollin'. Now smacking the cabbie? These yoots keep finding new euphemisms for some old-fashion wanking.

Another Lidstrom for Norris?

Congrats to El Capitan for winning his 7th Norris award!

#2187234 Lidstrom agrees to 1-year, $6.2m contract

Lidstrom returning?

Posted Image

With the numbers he has (4 Stanley Cups, 6 Norris, numerous All-Star appearances, Conn Smythe winner and Olympic gold medalist), he would command MUCH more than $6.2M on the open market, so he is taking less money to play with the Wings than if he were to go anywhere else.

Oh contraire mon frere. Anyways, good for some Vacouverites to at least score that night.

It's kinda sad that Vancouver fans scored more on the streets than their team did on the ice.
