#2438077 NHL enforcing uniform rule from 1964

Heaven forbid those sweaty, bleeding guys with fresh stitches smiling through missing teeth should look disheveled.

#2440176 Nyquist taking things in stride, with class

Great attitude. Red Wing class personified.

Meanwhile, somewhere, Sammy's getting a boob massage, eating quail eggs, and listening to Robin Thicke.

#2437913 Lidstrom will play in Winter Classic Alumni Game

Posted by rrasco on 20 September 2013 - 09:25 AM

The worst kept secret since the 2013 Winter Classic "announcement."  Fans knew months before the official announcement it was going to be Detroit/Toronto.  They act like it's the Red Wedding when in reality it's more like WikiLeaks.

Still, yay for The Perfect Human!

ZOMG!  I just watched that episode last night.  *still in shock*

Cleary bobblehead night.

I agree, Ally.

If someone had sent him a single tweet, that's different.  Even if it had been a nasty one, it can still be ignored.

When the guy spams him with nasty tweets, that calls for some sort of action.  There are few ways to take the high road in that situation.  Ignoring him wouldn't have done any good- he'd have just continued and filled up your twitter with nonsense.

Whining or resorting to name-calling would have been juvenile.  This dealt with the problem decisively.

I'm not a fan of his, but in this case Biznasty gets my

Good for him.
It's pathetic that people think that just because someone is famous they have the right to constantly harass them online. This guy didnt send one tweet to biz he sent like 15 in an hour.
I guess it doesn't count as online bullying if the guy is rich though. Good to know.
Don't start something that you can't handle. Well done Paul.

#2432509 So the consensus on Shanny's #14 is a no?

Posted by ogreslayer on 05 August 2013 - 01:21 PM

The standards for jersey retirements are super high for the Wings and most teams. I think next to us the AVS might be the next most strictest team.

The same Colorado Avalanche that retired Ray Bourque's number based on the 2 seasons he played there?  I think that disqualifies the use of the word strict in reference to their jersey retirement requirements.

And on the topic of Shanny, I hold the same opinion that others here have already stated.  He won't get his number retired & do think that the Wings need a ring of honor.  That would allow for the organization to still honor players that did make a significant contribution but fall short of being the type of not just great but generational player/leader that the Wings will put in the rafters.

Shanny is the perfect example of why the Wings need a "Ring of Honor" in the new arena. Gives the Wings a way to honor guys like Shanny, Homer, etc, who certainly deserve great recognition, but don't quite meet the standard set by Stevie and Nick.

#2432202 Red Wings to Officially Retire #5 on March 6th

Posted by frankgrimes on 01 August 2013 - 06:58 PM

Deserving would be an understatement, easily top 3 defenseman of all time, class act too bad the team didn't finish the job back in 2009. The perfect human deserved another back to back Stanley Cup. 4 Stanley Cups, 7 Norris Trophies, 12x All Star that's amazing. Words alone can't describe how good that guy was. Swedish offensive defenders will be forever guided with the task of becoming the next Lidstrom. This guy will soon join his good friend Yzerman at the rafters. Will be a sad and great feeling for every Wingsfan. One.more year one more year one more year

The HHOF needs to wave the waiting period for this guy, too. 7 norris trophies and 4 stanley cups = Very Rare. This guy is arguably the best defenseman of all time.

#2386414 Tatar frustrated; says he will only play in NHL when contract done

Watching Dan Cleary play instead of him makes me sick to my stomach, every game.

Couldn't agree more. Watching Cleary play period is like watching paint dry. He is so washed up.

#2382915 Official: Howard signs 6-year, $31.8m contract extension

Posted by ogreslayer on 11 April 2013 - 10:44 AM

Howard deserves $5m+ much more than Flip does.  My biggest concern is the length of a contract especially since the Wings still haven't found a backup for him that Babcock trusts.  How many more years of playing 75-85% of the season can he take before he has a major breakdown?

I'm not really against Howard, but I think a 6 year deal is too long if true.

Holland was praising him yesterday and said he's signing now or in June but the sides weren't far off at all. Looks like he got his 6 year 5 mil contract. We all know it was gonna be 5 mil, just wish the length wasn't 6 full years. Goalies can have the most inconsistent trajectories.
