To be fair he was brought in right around the time the Wings were close to setting the record for consecutive home wins. There was a wee bit of pressure which I'm sure didn't make the transition to a new system all that smooth.

Took me a bit to find it but all of this talk immediately conjured up this Harrison Ford quote from Six Days Seven Nights with regards to Holland: Robin Monroe: Ever since we've been here you've been so confident. That was a good read and I loved this part: I don’t expect, or want, Kenny Holland saying a whole lot of truthful things to me. But let’s you and I be straight: he knows what he needs and so do we. That hasn’t changed in months. Sniper, scorer, a “power forward” who actually drives the net consistently and doesn’t rest on a couple of postseasons that are actually turning out to be miraculous exceptions (clear enough for you Mule?). And the Wings need one more quality, reliable defenseman. You don’t lose Rafalski, Lidstrom, Stuart over a two-year period and replace them with a tainted Dive and a rookie (no matter how good he’s going to be and he’s a Calder candidate).

True but passes that don't necessarily result in a turnover, are those counted? They still don't connect with the intended target. But whatever, I have no more nits to pick. Here's a virtual beer to you for hoping that he is the next Lids! I don't care if it is only 10am, it's 5 o'clock somewhere.

Give me the stats for bad passes or being out of position. Look, I'm not dumping on the guy. By all account he looks to be the real deal but c'mon, let's not prematurely give him the Calder already and anoint him as the next Red Wing legend. Tone down the expectations before we become disappointed if he doesn't live up to them. Kindl was a pretty highly thought of prospect, obviously not as high as Smith, but many would be fine if he were run out of town because he didn't live up to his limited amount of hype. I fail to see how watching objectively makes me deluded. But as Walter said to The Dude, "I'm calmer than you are"

I am trying to be a realist. So many are gushing and seemingly expecting the world of this kid and didn't bother to pay attention to those mistakes.

This is what worries me. Watching him last year in a limited capacity was often cringe worthy with the bad passes and turnovers.

Darn. Had I known that he would sign with a team for only 1 year then I would have been on board. I feared a long term contract.
