Trial date set in Steve Moore’s lawsuit against Todd Bertuzzi
themcityblues replied to WingsAlways's topic in General
Man, everybody could've made $65 million in the "financial industry" if not for a few head injuries here and there. I mean, in the "financial industry" its a sure thing. All you need is a good brain and that $65 million begins to flow. -
Interestingly, he said that one right after the kids one. When Nyquist was in GR and we put Sammy out there for 1 game or something. "Kids are not the answer. It's a man's league."
-
My favorite... all time and probably forever... "Kids are not the answer" It just has a ring to it after what Nyquist, Tats and Sheahan showed us weeks later. The irony is still hilarious to me. I also like "It's a tough league"

signed Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV
themcityblues replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
That's an interesting point. Why don't you think that pairing works? In a sense, Quincey doesn't produce offense so he "must be" a defensive defensemen. Yet he doesn't pair well with Smith because he sucks at being a defensive defenseman. Which kind of made me think.. who actually pairs well with Quincey? In my mind... nobody? Maybe Ericsson... but boy is that D pairing a couple of fat rooted trees. Probably a huge reason why nobody wanted this contract is because he doesn't fit well with anybody. What kind of "role" does KFQ play? He doesn't hit, he doesn't score, he's not overly gifted in his own zone. He just sort of does nothing out there. -

If Quincey could play like he did the last 3-4 weeks of last season, I'd actually be pretty happy with him on the team. -
When will we know about Alfie? (Legwand signed w. Sens)
themcityblues replied to ash11's topic in General
Wait a minute, wasn't the Legwand trade supposed to be good because "he is a sure signing this offseason". Why exacly is he "good as gone"? So we really did trade Jarnkrok for a 20 game rental to get us to a first round knockout? -

Trial date set in Steve Moore’s lawsuit against Todd Bertuzzi
themcityblues replied to WingsAlways's topic in General
“This case is about Steve’s life and him being here shows just how important this case is to him.” Yeah, if you have a play-date for $68 million you wake up, brush you teeth, and show up. What a pointless quote. This is a good one: “Steve Moore is unable to obtain employment commensurate to anywhere near his high intellect and Harvard degree,” Danson told the court, referring to reports by career experts he has filed. But the lawyer for Orca Bay, the former owner of the Vancouver Canucks, argued otherwise. Alan D’Silva referred to applications Moore made to the Harvard and Stanford MBA programs in 2010 in which Moore writes about receiving $104,000 for work. -
Signed Sheahan Re-Signed: 2-Years @ $950k/season
themcityblues replied to Nyquistfan14's topic in General
Mark my words -- he'll be a step above. I'm almost pissed the F off you used Tatar and Hudler in the same sentence. I'm so excited for Sheahan this next year. Probably my favorite wing to watch come season time. -

Ouch, ******* ouch... It's a nightmare when you consider all the UFA talent this offseason. And KFQ comes back? Rofl! Honestly though he did have a decent/good second half. -
Alfie informs Wings he wants to return
themcityblues replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
I think you have some good points. And it makes me think that Alfie should not be resigned, period. And if Holland does resign Alfie, there's the huge hidden cost in that he leaves no room for the plethora of awesome UFA this off-season. I hope Holland does not resign Alfie. For me, this is my last straw for Holland's reputation. If he gets Alfie (or Cleary) back and no good UFA then I'm resigned to say he truly is a terrible GM and I'd fear he's going to tank the Wings and kill the streak before he finally leaves office. There's way to rationalize the Franzen/Hossa deal and everything since... kind of... but there'd be no excuse to resign these two washed up guys instead of fishing in this awesome pool. -
My vote: 1) Niskanen 2) Boyle 3) Ehrhoff
-
I don't really know... Ehrhoff might be a great player... just saying that when I've seen him he seemed pretty mediocre. He never stood out to me like the other good defensemen in the league. Maybe he really isn't great in his zone. Just haven't watched him enough. Plus he's a lefty. Overall I'm not feeling too hot about him.
-
I think it would be great to get Boyle. But if teams are throwing big money... and more importantly long terms.. at the guy then it's an easy pass for a guy like Niskanen instead. The more I learn about him, the more I feel you can build an organization around Niskanen. Detroit truly could use a 7-year patch on their D-corps. A good puck moving defenseman is critical to winning the cup. The guy is young, defensively sound and developing on offense. He should get better over time if the guidance and leadership is there (I'm not sure Detroit still possesses this, though, to be honest...) If you would overpay for anybody, Niskanen is the one this team should overpay for. And if you truly need the 7 years out of him it's probably not much of an overpayment.

Alfie informs Wings he wants to return
themcityblues replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
With all the talent in the UFA pool this offseason, Alfie seems to be the least critical to get. If Alfie is signed right away I'd be pissed. He should only be signed last if the other deals fall through. But is that the "proper" way to treat a vet like Alfie? -
Kane and Toews both asking for $12M per year
themcityblues replied to turbowhistle86's topic in General
wtf 12 mil? i thought the thread title meant 12 mil between the BOTH of them. the leagues top scorer makes less than 10 mil. wtf?! 9 mil seems right for kane, 8 or less for toews. how is chicago going to put a good team out if they resign both of them? this is typical nhl these days... have a big playoffs and then everybody gets euphoric and pays 30% more than what the player is worth only to have that player decline when they get into the 5th+ year of the contract and then buy out time. rofl -
Since 5s turn out to be 74s and 74s turn out to be 5s... not really.

Alfie informs Wings he wants to return
themcityblues replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
I'd be happy if Alfie came back for $3M, but we know that's a long ways off. Alfie is seriously over-valued, and that's the only problem with him coming back. -
So like, what kind of numbers would Danny Boy have to put up to make people be happy he resigned?

Hartnell to Columbus for Umberger + 4th in 2015
themcityblues replied to StayClassy's topic in General
This is hilarious. These GMs suck eggs these days. Everybody knows this is a win for CBJ. The article basially summarized that: 1) Hartnell went to staff and said he wanted "to win" 2) Staff thought about it and asked themselves if they could be a winning team in the future 3) Team decided they are not a winning team and decided to tell Hartnell to leave -
Please God no. Don't you all remember how AWESOME it was playing Joe Thornton in the playoffs? We could always count that he wouldn't show up. We do not need two Franzens on this team.

Signed Detroit re-signs Gustavsson 1 yr $1.85 mill
themcityblues replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I'd love to have Monster yay -
I like Cleary as a Wing. Hope he has a better year production wise. I thought he was effective last year carrying the puck into the o zone and getting under the skin of some guys. Against Boston not a single guy on the team did both of these things. Compare Cleary to Franzen who has better production yet brings nothing to this team.

A player I'll never be able to commit to memory. Already forgetting what it was like to have him our team. Just made no impact.
