This team looks like they're in major trouble tonight.

When Franzen comes back he can say he doesn't try to "score goals" or "play 82 games". Just kidding. It's odd, though, how he always gets hurt after a big night. With his strange interviews and poor response to fans' criticism, I'd say a lot of his issues are psychological in nature. Maybe the 7-day IR is a time for him to de-stress emotionally. You guys remember his bizarre disappearance last year? That was never explained. This event seems just as vague and strange.

I think the defense has been stellar. 1. D.D - I agree he's very consistent in his own zone. He's responsible, a big body, heavy on the puck, moves the puck well, and has high hockey IQ. He's so dependable in many ways which is why I list him as the Wings best D-man. 2. B. Smith - He's constantly improving his play in his own zone. Paired with his offensive gifts he's growing into a critically important piece of this team. I feel Smith has potential to get even better. I would like to see him put up more points and convert more opportunities into goals. 3 KFQ - He looked dumb last night, but so far a solid year for the whipping boy. I'm quite surprised. If he continues to be responsible in his own zone his durability and dependability becomes a huge asset. He's playing with heart lately which is a bit unusual for him. 4. Kronwall - Ever since Nick left he hasn't been as responsible with the puck in his own zone. He's so gifted athletically and is dangerous offensively such that he probably deserves to wear the "A" anyway. But how good of a year has it been for him compared to years past? Not stellar. I didn't think he was great last year, either. 5. Ericsson - His tree-root legs have been noticeable. If he's hesitant to use his body and afraid to take guys out of the play then his value really diminishes. I wonder if he is afraid to let loose because it's not "Red Wings"-style hockey. Is he being warned by the staff about instigating fights, igniting emotions and taking penalties? Why else is he not using his body like he used to? I put him #5 because I still see him cancel guys out in his own zone. 6. Kindl - He just doesn't seem to add much value. I guess, at times, he's looked good skating and moving the puck. He is a turnover machine and he seems to lack confidence to play in the NHL. I'm surprised he still gets opportunities. I think he's improving... slowly

Babs put Weiss on the PP? Is Babs not the weirdest coach in the universe? I thought you had to "earn" your PP role (Smith)? Up until tonight Weiss hadn't even "earned" a spot on the opening roster! ROFL

It's like the Wings signed him for $5 mil and are now actively threatening his NHL career. A guy with a performance record like Weiss and his situation (new team, coming off injury) deserves a shot when he gets healthy. This even makes me emotional. If Weiss isn't out there soon I'm wondering if this staff is morally dignified, let alone if they have any business running a hockey team. Their devising with Weiss makes me think they are bad human beings who suck at running a hockey team. With what they did to Tootoo (sign and dump) and even Samuelsson (sign and dump) I'm nearly tired of being a Wings fan. I'll remain fans of some individual players. Babcock alluded to Nyquist sitting on the 4-3. He said that he put those 4 guys out there because those four were practicing the 4 on 3 in practice.

I think Nestrasil and Nyquist look good. The rest of the team does not look good. I expected a slow start from Z -- he will warm up, probably alongside his team when they stop playing like dog doo. This game is pure punishment. Not playing Smith on the PP is indeed criminal.

Is it just so unlikely that a proven guy like Weiss would regress so much that nobody could've predicted it? Perhaps he is still recovering from the injury?

Yeah! All that time off threw a wrench into his game.
