Ericsson couldn't make the next step when he was being coddled, he will not make it next season. Hes overpaid, and boneheaded defensively, I don't expect to see any difference next season.

I've made post on this before on all the players Hollands missed since 2005 in draft and trades. I'm on my way to a party but I'll post the list tonight.

Kindl being a bust has been known since his time in GR. Holland has since 2009 failed to make this team better. Last season everyone justified it with 'well next season Suter' now Detroit has 2 options overpay or not contend.

For not hedging his bets YEARS ago. Lidstroms age was not a state secret. There is NO reason Detroit should be without a number one d man. Now no matter what Holland does he will screw the team for years. He's either going to over pay Carle or trade the farm for a flavor of the month.

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
Shaman replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Opposing D were shutting down Zetterberg and Datsyuk and no one else was able to step it up. Not Hudler, Not Flip, Not Bert, Not Franzen. That says a lot.- 487 replies

Reports on twitter are starting to all come together that Suter and Parise are going to the Wild. So who should the Wings pick first overall?- 487 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

Except the best goal scorers in the game right now aren't huge girtty guys. Players like Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, while they have abit of an edge have a lot more skill than physical presence, tenacity, etc. Even a player like Semin who has 40 goal talent would be worth a shot because he makes the rest of the top 6 more dangerous, it takes pressure off of Zetterberg and Dats because the other team will have to focus on Semin and not just Z and D. The reason why Zetterberg and Datsyuk have been less productive in the playoffs is because other teams have figured out if they focus on them the rest of the team will be shut down. So while I do think size and grit are nice, I'd rather have Semin in the top 6 and find a gritty #6-7 D-man.- 487 replies

Shaman replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Because you need a guy who can score 30 to 40 goals in your top 6? Doan is a pass first player, if you ever watched him. The Wings top 6 is ALL pass first guys save for Franzen who floats and hasn't been near 30 goals in next to forever. I would be all for Doan if the Wings had a legit goal scorer, but because they don't I don't feel a pass first player like Doan would be the right piece.- 487 replies

Nice strawman that was not my argument and you look stupid for strawmanning me. I never said that Hulder won us every game, I am saying that what the team NEEDS from their top 6 forwards is a GOAL scorer. Who in the top 6 is the sniper? And Doan isn't a true goal scorer by anyone's definition. Also Detroit needs to stop with stop-gap players like Doan who will only be around a season or two, because it causes drama every offseason when it comes time to replace them. What I want is for them to either trade for or sign a top 6 goal scoring winger who is under 30 for and make sure to keep him for 5 to 8 years.- 487 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

To a team like Phx that lack leadership and knowledge of the game hes worth that much, but on a veteran team like the Wings anything over 4 million would be an overpayment. They a legit sniper more than they need an aging veteran these days since Floater Franzen has taken up a lifetime roost in JLA.- 487 replies

There's no actual logic in your statements. First intangibles are nice, but at the end of the day the team that wins has more goals than the team that loses. Therefore you want guys who can score. As for Doan's back/fore checking, its nice, but as he would be playing wing they are not required, so while nice, a winger's #1 attribute is their ability to score and Hudler>Doan>>>>Sameulsson. And as for your logic, look at the mathematical trend of Doan's production over the last 5 seasons. As for the 33% less argument, I don't buy it, if he plays in the top 6. It doesn't matter what hes paid, a top 6 winger on any good team needs to produce at a certain level, and he has never produced as much as Hudler. With the cap increase the difference between Hudlers and Sammy's contract is just a shade over 1% of the overall salary cap (more logic, because a 33% difference is misleading). PS Doan has only scored 30 or more goals twice, He averages 21 goals a season, which is not worth 4.5 million.- 487 replies

Only in the 'I am playing with two Sedins' universe has Samuelsson ever out produced Hudler. Doan has not scored more than 22 goals in 3 years and is declining offensively, whereas Hudler is entering his prime. Doan will also be getting between 4.5 and 5 million for his ~50 points. On top of that his only reason for not resigning with Phx is because the management issues, they are currently in better shape roster wise than the Wings, and he is very loyal.- 487 replies

Doan would be at BEST a lateral move with Hudler, so that would not give us a 'sweet lineup'. Carle is overrated and will cost a king's ransom to sign because hes everyone's plan B now. Any trade likely to be made would cost an arm and a leg and make the team worse down the line.- 487 replies

With their prospect pool the way it is it will definitely want Jarnkrok or Jurco and they will want NHL level talent, which means Flip or Smith most likely.
-
I doubt that cheap, other teams who lost on the Suter sweepstakes will also be bidding for Yandle and Enstrom, which will make it a sells market. On top of that unloading Franzen without getting Parise or Semin first would be pretty stupid, the Wings have not yet even replaced the production of Hudler, and dumping another 25 goals off the roster with how suspect the defense is would be very short sighted.
-
Problems with your roster: #1 Yandle will not come cheap, think Smith+++ #2 Semin will not sign for under 6 million and he will want more years #3 Suter is looking like a 50/50 shot at best right now
-
Smith, another top prospect (Jarnkrok or Jurco), and a 1st at minimum.
-
I wouldn't trade for him purely because blowing up the farm is worse than standing pat and getting a first overall.
-
What makes you think this line up would make the playoffs? Regressed badly in defense with only a minor upgrade in offense? There is no way with that defense Detroit goes very far, and saying they may not even make the playoffs is not a stretch.

Suter is a must, if there is even a chance that he doesn't come to the Wings Holland has to make a last ditch effort to get him. Honestly, and I know its kinda doomsayer but I don't see the Wings being competitive next season without a legitimate #1 D-man, not after losing Hudler's (no way they make up for that with the signings they've made) scoring and Lidstrom's leadership.- 487 replies

Thanks, I got Rossi and Russo confused, Rob Rossi is a joke to even the Pens fans on HF boards, that should tell you how well he's respected.

Example of HockeyInsderr: From 10 minutes ago @HockeyyInsiderr Couldn't verify with other sources, but as per one source close to Suter he has made a choice, Detroit. #RedWings Working contract details.
