She's already stacked.

Don't worry guys, they traded a junior high prospect for a first and second round pick in the pre-school draft. It's a pretty deep class this year, so in 15 or so years, Detroit girls will be stacked.

Canucks trade Schneider to Devils for 9th overall pick
55fan replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
I just listened to an interview with Schneider (the one on NHL.com). He really handled it well. He complimented Luongo and Brodour and said he loved being in Vancouver, and was looking forward to going back east and being closer to family. He said all the right things, but the comment I found the most interesting was that this was the year that he didn't expect to be traded, having expected it in each of his previous years since Lu got there. -

I was surprised that they didn't buy out Luongo. Now I'm stunned. Is this possibly a sign that Marty is finally getting old? Maybe they need someone who knows how to be a #1a/b. -
Yeah, I'm getting a massive headache myself. I can't keep track. I'm almost ready to do what I do with football- look at the roster after pre-season is done and say, "oh, that's new". But I can't. Dang I'd love Clusterf*** on this team. Don't know what I'd give up for him, though. Agree that it's shocking that BobbyLu hasn't been bought out. I figured they'd have pen in hand, waiting to sign on that one.

Signed Jakub Kindl signs 4 year extension, $9.6m total, $2.4m/yr

Good. He's one of those quiet kids who does things without much notice. He's still got some ninja in him. The other team prepares to battle the more noteworthy ones, and -bam!- he sneaks in and gets the job done before fading to oblivion again. 4@2.4=good numbers. -
Nice move by the owners/managent/pr people. I guess they were surprised by how nice people can be in towns where they don't yell, "Detroit sucks" every chance they get. Maybe Hawks fans should take notes.

Ok. I'm necromancing. I had to dig up this thread because I had a weird thought with no place to put it. This isn't serious. It won't happen. It's just something that would be funny to think about and maybe would make a funny movie plot, but that's it. What would happen if all of the guys who were getting bought out got mad enough to give a collective "FU" to the system. You know, the "stick it to the man" kind of thing. What if they all (at least the good ones) got together and decided that since they were getting paid anyway that they would all sign for one dismal team not owned by the league. Let's use the Panthers as our example. Then suppose they let the Florida GM in on it. The GM picks up all of the buy-outs for 2-4 years, trades his lower-level players for draft picks, picks up some has-beens that still have a year or two left in them as free agents, and builds a team that looks like the all-star game from a decade or two ago. Briere, Vinny and other buyouts. Jagr and other free agents. They put together a team of former super-stars, make for a fiscally good team as far as drawing older fans (hey! We're in Florida!) and then when they have had a few years and these guys retire, the farm system is stacked to the brim from all of those high draft picks. If it was a movie, the Old Guys would go on to win the Cup, of course, but in RL, it would make for a fun team to watch. Just running through my brain. Thought I'd share.

Maybe he's saying he's learned from his mistakes?

Poor Dick Axelsson. I just wonder whether Grigorenko would have been better than Sharp had everything gone well for him. He was a hot commodity and pretty well hyped, but that doesn't always translate to success.

Let Phil present the Cup. He's practically synonymous with it.

That's going to take some clean-up effort. Yuck.

Win-win. Either we get something for Flip or the threat of going to Columbus causes him to bring down his asking price to a much more palatable level.

Whoa! Someone at the DMV was either paying little attention that day or was not concerned with keeping a job. It was probably some guy named Frank Detweiler who realized that he had the perfect alibi for asking for the plates. Another idea: Get one of those hawks plates personalized to say DET 11. Tell them you're Frank's uncle and he wears #11 and wants to grow up to be a Hawk. Practice in front of a mirror so you can keep a straight face.

I disagree that trading him at the deadline would have been a good thing. Flip could have broken out last season. Heaven knows we've been saying that for long enough. There's also no guarantee that a star would have performed up to our expectations. He's just a little too good to trade for someone questionable, but a little too questionable to get us someone good. That said, Flip just might like Calgary. He'd be back with his little buddy- I fully expect his rights to be traded at the draft or him to be re-signed for a much more reasonable number. He and his agent know the over-crowding situation in Detroit, and unless they figure that others will be gone before Flip, they have to know that their choices are to come down or go to free agency.

I'm guessing that wouldn't be legally allowed, but it would be funny. Too bad they probably wouldn't allow HAWXSUX

When I got my plates, I searched for days to find something Red Wings related that wasn't taken. I tried every variation of Red Wings, Wingnut, etc. that I could think of. Finally I gave up, but my sister suggested that I use a Z instead of an S and I got GOWINGZ. No Wings-related plates available. In North Dafrigidkota, of all places. We have a population of 6 and you still can't get a Wings-related plate. Good luck in your quest.

It didn't fit the criteria, but when I typed it in DRW11CB5 looked pretty good.

With all the flooding we've had in Fargo since I've moved here, I know how bad this can totally suck. Thoughts and prayers are with the people of Calgary. Hopefully no one has been/will be hurt or killed from this. Losing stuff is bad. People are a whole 'nother level of bad. No worry about the Flames though. Their play extinguished them before the water got there. <---obligatory bad joke in an otherwise serious post.

I've never gone to one, but when my Godson was little, he and I had "Star Wars and cheese pizza weekends". We'd watch the entire series. When he was little, it was three one day, three the next. When he got older it was 1-6 nonstop. The person below me is agoraphobic to some degree. (I can only leave the house under certain circumstances. Fortunately, I've learned to bend my own rules.)

Marian Illitch is well-liked by teammates and coaches, but I wouldn't put her in as a center. Goalie maybe, but not center. There's a lot to be said for guys who are good in the locker room, but in the end it comes down to performance. I'd like to keep Emmy. He seems like a good kid, and on most teams would be a 3th or 4th line guy (maybe even 2nd on really crappy teams) but when he's got this many guys above him, he's going to be wearing a suit most games. He's a darn good guy to have in case of injury and to keep pushing the other guys to perform so that he doesn't get their spot. Healthy competition is always a good thing. It keeps complacency from setting in. But back to Brunner- there's no way we don't re-sign this guy unless it comes down to money. Looking only at roster space, he's in. There are quite a few below him talent-wise, and every reason to believe that after getting used to a full 82 games that he won't get even better. Sure, he could bust. Anyone can. He might not reach our expectations (see the Flip thread). From what I've seen of him this season, I'd take a chance on him.
