Just my dos pesos...Me thinks if the tall lanky left Dman Swede Edvinsson is available at #6 - he'll be wearing the Winged Wheel on stage with Grand Master Y and Co on draft night...If not available - I'll beat the dead horse with Wallstedt.
-
Must agree here...Funny if Wally goes #3 thru #5...Likely would free up someone like Edvinsson/Hughes for us to take.
-
Must've bribed the HoF committee with $1 million...
-
Agreed. Interesting though - there's a 10 yr gap ('93 Billy Smith '03 Grant Fuhr) where there was not a goalie inducted...Then of course there was a bunch... 1993 Billy Smith G Canada 2003 Grant Fuhr G Canada 2006 Patrick Roy G Canada 2011 Ed Belfour G Canada 2014 Dominik Hašek G Czech Republic/ Czechoslovakia 2016 Rogie Vachon G Canada 2018 Martin Brodeur G Canada

Agreed here - looking at their contemporaries - Ozzie seems to be in a group that was exceptional Brodeur/Roy/Hasek/Belfour...If the same standard applied to skaters - well then how would Ciccerelli/Andreychuk match up against Gretzky/Lemieux/Yzerman? Many tend to agree had Ozzie won the Conn Smythe in 2008 - or had the Wings won the Cup in 2009 - he'd likely be considered HoF worthy.

Hey makes a good 'Popeye' Doyle...

Basketball sucks...

I'm not talking about the actual number of skaters VS netminders - I'm talking about this set of standards. What made guys like Ciccerelli/Andreychuk/Sundin worthy but not Osgood?
-
Unfortunately netminders are held to a higher standard when it comes to the HoF.
-
We gotta take a good hard look at what we have - there's no shining offensive stars as of yet wearing the Winged Wheel (Raymond?). If Yzerman & Co feel there's no legit 1st line forward, nor top pair Dman at #6 - why not go for the guy who many scouts feel might end up 1 of the top players from this draft? Having a potential star between the pipes would go great with a stud Dman.
-
Some compare him to countryman Lundqvist with his demeanor and style of play.

Not everyone here can be an "O.G." like me ...

What was Bergevin thinking in 2018 - coulda hada a Tkachuk ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_NHL_Entry_Draft

TBH - looking back at the 2017 draft today - Suzuki is the only guy that really jumps out after Rasmountain.
-
Maybe slightly off topic here, but this is why 've been warming up to the idea of seeing Grand Master Y drafting Wallstedt at #6.
-
I was impressed with Rasmountain - in particular the last dozen or so games where Mantha was gone, and by process of elimination Ras got some playing time - certainly didn't look outta place. Put him in there with a guy like Veleno (yes - he did look good too - where's mah crow) and I bet these guys will push for 40 to 50 pts each.
-
Another fine example of how Yzerman is 1 of the best GMs in the league.
-
Right now there seems to be a source of decent and reasonably priced netminders, but I'm not sure what it'll be in 4, or 5 years from now when we 'should' be a playoff team. Like you said - if Wallstedt has a great upside - maybe a higher ceiling than what's left in the draft - then why not take him? History of past drafts aside - sometimes you gotta take that chance.
-
This has been an unusual past 18 months with the pandemic. I'd say this draft may see more subjective/personal hunch picks than ever before. For all we know Yzerman and the scouts might feel there's not 1 skater that really stands out between #5 thru #10 - maybe at #6 Wallstedt has the highest ceiling of that bunch (think Lundqvist) and everyone else might be seen as 2nd line forwards or 2nd pairing Dmen. As usual I really don’t follow the prospects so I don’t have any strong opinion - however it would be nice to add a goalie who can be our legit starter for years to come.
