    Monster All Padded Up...

Since there isn't much going on (still), thought I'd put up this picture that was just shared by the Detroit Red Wings Facebook... Monster sure looks good in the red and white, and I have to say those pads look sweet. Simple, crisp white. Like an Ice Monster Excited for the new season when I see things like this.

    Patrick Eaves Skating again

http://twitvid.com/OCLRV Positive signs EDIT: Helm also skating apparently, but says return is a way away.

    Patrick Eaves Skating again

This sucks. Was a horrible incident though and I guess taking a puck to the head is always going to take longer to recover from that a hit to the head. I think saving graces are that we're pretty flush on offense at the moment and a lockout could give him more time to recover but boy I want to see Eaves skating again soon.

Would Visnovsky bring value to Detroit?

Out of interest, as I haven't seen anything on this, what are the terms of the deal and why is it being contested?

    2013 Winter Classic Logo Revealed!

This is exactly what I thought. It's made by hockey fans for hockey fans. Not for sponsors, etc. Makes it really seem like a fan event.

    Amazing tribute to Ruslan Salei

Same here. Haven't taken it off since I got it at the St. Pete last October. Great tribute there

    Most overrated player.

Which is the definition of 'overrated' so I agree with you I also said "he" though, but I was taking my lead from martinezsvsu

Red Wings official website too equal to others?

I know a lockout could be on the way but team sites aren't really the fault of Bettman so don't know why the hate towards him for that. It's a marketing thing, most likely devised by the marketing team, to make sure all content stays on league-run/owned sites. Not really Bettman sitting in the boardroom throwing his finger around and slamming fists like a dictator and threatening everyone who disagrees. I'd be surprised if he even had a say in it at all, apart from to say something along the lines of 'make sure we're covered with regards to copyright'. I mean after all, if other sites showed highlights and footage of NHL players, organisations, and events/games, then why would they go to NHL.com. That's the whole point.

Red Wings official website too equal to others?

I think it's also because the Red Wings don't run the site. They provide copy but all content, especially things like images and highlights, are owned by the NHL. League run sites all under the same main domain is a good thing. Not to mention a lot of other things that have been mentioned, i.e. people looking around other team sites and being able to use them easily.

    Most overrated player.

I think he probably put him in there because next season he'll disappear. Or at least I can see that happening somehow. No idea why though, just seems to fit. So wouldn't agree that he's overrated, but could be a flash in the pan (although he'll still be a good player, just not at the level of this cup winning season).

    New Commissioner?

Messier or Shanny are good shouts. Don't think Shanny would be offered it though, just something about him doesn't seem to fit as commish to me but Messier is pretty much perfect for it. As ogreslayer said though, it'll be that dude in the suit... Thing is it only has to involve law and labour relations in terms of hockey. Any career player and coach/gm/league official could do it as they've lived it. Plus there will be advisors for that stuff. I think it'll be good to have a commish who can provide a much needed link between hockey talent (players, coaches, etc), and hockey businessmen. Think how much smoother negotiations with the NHLPA would be if a former player was commish?

    12-13 Biggest Surprise

That's what he offered then, why he played so much. Perhaps the upside of him playing and allowing Abby to play wing outweighs the downside of playing Abby 4th line centre. Because like has been said, if he was really that crap/brought nothing to the team then he wouldn't have played. Abby would have been 4th line centre last year.

    12-13 Biggest Surprise

Well he wont now after that report kidding I think he obviously did something that the coaching staff liked. But he didn't put up points... or shots even... so he's never going to be noticed much by fans or media. Just the way it is. Perhaps he'll have a good season this year. I've said it before but my surprise is Ericsson. I think he's finally going to be told that he needs to repay all the faith. He's got a cannon but no confidence to use it, has been working SO hard on his defensive game that I think he's gone into his shell a bit offensively. Now is the time to reawaken it. Give him some PP time and tell him to QB. That should light a fire under him. I'd honestly love to see him get 20mins a night at least. Dude could be beast.

    New Jersey's Financial Woes

I guess it has nothing to do with success and everything to do with poor management/an owner not being able to put up as much cash as the organisation spends. Simply expenditure outweighs income. Which is a bad business model whichever way you look at it. The easiest way for them to become stable again is to have an internal cap, which will rock their chances for years. But I guess it's better than folding

Exactly, without Kovy that could well be it for NJ.

    Mezaros tears Achilles tendon

Tough on sports that use a lot of ankle movement, hockey turning skates and baseball shifting weight quickly. Could be a tough one long after he's recovered. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Flyers throw an offer out there for someone big, especially considering Weber fell through

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Gordie played 25 years with the Wings until injury forced him to retire. It was only a few years later that he felt fit enough to play again, and did so with his two sons. He didn't leave to go somewhere else. Not to mention he had a falling out with the Wings management whilst he played but still remained on the team. Don't know if that says anything about the argument that Feds number isn't retired because of his falling out with the management? Just a thought.

    Wings & Yandle twitter-rumors? Believable?

Off topic so apologies, but this is exactly what me and my friend think up when we notice that Yzerman and Stamkos's contracts run out in the same year. Be nice if we could bring the former, then the latter, here EDIT: In fact looking back, its not 'exactly' what we think, but sort of along similar lines hehe

Who is your favorite player from a team besides the Wings?

He wont stay. They don't want him and he doesn't want to stay... APPARENTLY. Rumour has it they want to rebuild and he doesn't/doesn't think he'll fit. I'd love him here. Iggy is my favourite along with Vinny. Best days are behind them both but still love them. Vinny mainly for sticking with a sunbelt team (even though they are pretty good) and for all the work he's done in the community (children's hospital and all). Both just seem like guys I'd have a drink and a laugh with.

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

Absolutely. I think there is a league rule that doesn't allow goaltenders to be captains for reasons such as they're not allowed over the red line, are used in rotation systems (as in most, if not all, goaltenders will be benched for a number games). But I could be wrong don't quote me on that. But yeah every Wing up there bar Sawchuck was a Captain... some on numerous occasions. But then again Sawchuck was revolutionary in his position.

And knows that Yzerman was the superior person. Retirement is about more than simply being a great player. That's why he's up there with no argument and there's a discussion about Fed. In my view if there is discussion then it's a no. I agree that he was in no way a hired gun as you put it, he was a key piece of this team, but he wasn't all of this team like the other retired numbers were. Yeah I know I'm not saying their Wings numbers were better, sorry if that was implied, simply saying that if we're going on stats then all of them have better career numbers than Fed. You never hear talks with any of their teams about number retirement. I simply think it goes beyond stats when talking of retiring a number.

    Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

If you're going with stats, Yzerman has nearly 600 more points than him all with the Wings, and Howe has nearly 700 more not to mention over 1700 games in an era that didn't have nearly as many teams. The numbers retired are something special, like REALLY special. If you're going with stats then Hull, Shanahan, Robitaille, Murph, all have better numbers and contributed significantly to the Wings during the same period. Fedorov may well have been 'the best player' on the team but wasn't the leader. Everyone in the rafters can claim to have been.

    Wings & Yandle twitter-rumors? Believable?

He might have the specifics on some deals and will break it before others, but that doesn't mean he's an inside source. The deals that he has given info on have all been pretty big deals that would have come with some press release. The deal may have been done a day before he gets the info and therefore there isn't much wrong with leaking something. It's basic industry practice that a publication or a broadcaster wont confirm a deal until the teams in question do. He has the luxury of being able to say what he wants with little backlash, he's a blogger. He's rarely right when deals are trying to be worked (or throws about 8/9 teams in there as potential destinations) but then can take all the credit for breaking a story early when he has no restrictions on what he can say. Hope that makes sense...

    Wings & Yandle twitter-rumors? Believable?

You remember the ones he gets right, and generally forget those that don't pan out. But this is a guy who twice reported signings that never happened. Bit embarrassing for him when he says a player signs in one city only for NHL.com/TSN/whatever to say an hour later that they've signed elsewhere. If you go through ALL his tweets the vast majority are BS. After all this is a multi-million dollar industry and some pro scout in an organisation isn't going to tell an old colleague about a trade or a signing going down, in the full knowledge that he has a twitter account with the purpose of revealing such information. That scout would be out the door. Not to mention if he worked for 4 different NHL teams why isn't he still working within the league? He's a blogger who is now seeking people to blog with him on a website. This doesn't sound like an NHL source to me
