Because his name was already up there, that's why. Whether it should or shouldn't have been is a different story. But taking it down is disrespectful, especially since Ilitch has taken a tight-lipped, rat like stance on this. He's a joke. There's plenty of guys in the HHOF who don't belong there. Should they be removed now? And Aurie was actually very instrumental for Detroit during the early days of the team.

Don't get me started on the Aurie thing. That was a classless move by Ilitch.

Malkin would have likely won in a losing effort. He scored more points than anyone in the playoffs not named Gretzky, Coffey or Lemieux. Front runner for Smythe right now for Tampa is likely LGW's favorite, Tyler Johnson.

And we're an average team with an average goalie. Hopefully, that will change with Mrazek in the future, but like you said, the quality of the rest of the team is the most important thing.

You never know. I didn't think Alexei Zhamnov was the kind of guy that would load his team with 5 North American goons and have them bully every team in the KHL. But that's what happened in Vityaz many years ago when he ran the team. Yzerman may not have the final call, but he is one of the higher ups in the organization. How can you say he has not word in the matter?

How awesome would it be to see Yzerman skating the Cup at the United Center in game 6?

Actually, that graphic shows me that Tampa has gone through the two best goalies in the league and a pretty good young goalie in Mrazek. Chicago has played three goalies that couldn't stop a beach ball. Granted, Chicago scores a lot, but some of the goals conceded were plain awful.

I agree with your assessment of him, but St. Louis did not have a "marginal team" under him. They had a really good team. Just couldn't get above the top teams in the West.

Not sure if I read your post correctly. Other Capitals have had great seasons during that stretch. Semin, Backstrom and Green have put up big numbers. Ovechkin has just scored more than them. Their problem in the playoffs is the production from other players is never enough when it counts. That's why they've never made it past the second round. But it's not like he's played on a talentless team, where it's natural that he will lead them in goals and points every season. He's deserved that record because of his play and consistency.

I always liked Dandenault. He played in Detroit a long time, but is one of those players no one ever talks about as a favorite.

The Blues would have lost. They've already shown they can't beat Chicago. Or anybody, for that matter in the playoffs.

St. Louis would be stupid enough to go after another Wings goalie castoff. Osgood, Legace, Conklin,...........Howard?

As far as I'm concerned, even if they lose, the whining is warranted. We let our favorite Red Wing leave and retained an old man out of ideas. They wanted Yzerman to overripe.
