You guys need to stay on topic, or I'm banning the whole lot of you.

02/07 GDT : Columbus Blue Jackets 3, at Red Wings 2 (OT)

Who is Vitale? Apparently, he plays for the Wings, but is injured. Did I miss something?

But Babcock is Canadian and always wanted to coach the Leafs and prove how smart he is by turning around a crappy franchise. I've always gotten the impression Julien doesn't like the Wings from our meetings with them (not sure why since we usually lost). Also, let's face it, Detroit is not a place that should attract accomplished coaches. The Wings lack star power, have limited cap space, have numerous terrible contracts saddling the team, and the ownership is obsessed with another team in the city. If I'm a hockey coach looking for a job, Detroit is nowhere near my list of places I'd want to be.

    Bruins fire Claude Julien

Serious question. Would Julien want to coach the Wings even as early as next season? The guy just lost a job he had for a long time. And Boston plays in the same division as Detroit. This is different than Boudreau being hired by the Ducks hours after Washington fired him. This is so much easier in Japan, where honor comes first. Blashill would have resigned by now without even needing to be asked. Don't even get me started on what Holland would do.

What about your boy Mike Keenan? Is he still employed in Russia?

Teams usually play with a spark immediately after a new coach is brought in. Whether it lasts remains to be seen. If Holland only cares about this streak, he will fire Blashill to get that spark winning streak. BTW, nobody in Boston knows this happened as they have a parade today for those other ass****s in town.

    Avalanche

No, that was Gelinas. He scored the GWG in every series that year. Including the one in the Finals that didn't count.

    Avalanche

No. The Chris Drury and Stephane Yelle traded ended their dynasty. Especially, with Forsberg's injuries and Drury's solid play in Buffalo a few years later. He was a very clutch player. Yelle was probably the best 4th line center in the league. They traded those two guys for Dean McAmmond, Jeff Shantz and Derek Morris. I guess you could say Roy's retirement hurt them also, but by that time, big name goalies weren't important anymore.

02/04 GDT : Red Wings vs Nashville Predators : 8:00 PM ET

Amazing saves by Mrazek in the waning minutes of the game. Shame on the rest of the players for being trash and giving up those good chances. They looked like they were playing the 1992 Penguins out there.

2/3 GDT - Red Wings vs New York Islanders - 7:30 PM EST

DeKeyser may have the worst aim of any player in NHL history. At least Samuelsson could hit the goalie's crest. We'll take it, though.

If he scores a goal, he should throw his gloves and stick in the air like he just scored a Cup clinching goal in OT. The other team wouldn't like it, but I think in this case it's warranted.

The '84 Oilers would have struggled to win a Cup with Mrazek in net. This guy is the king of 4 goal games.

That stupid oaf Abdelkader just injured our best player. Can we trade this guy for an expensive bottle of wine already?

Shows you how far this franchise has fallen. During the pre-game show on NHLN, Mike Rupp said the Islanders should beat teams like the Wings if they want to make the playoffs. Ouch.

Mrazek's goaltending on that play reminded me of playing old hockey video games on the easiest difficulty.

    Here's a very blunt read.............

In other words, there won't be a first step because that isn't going to happen. Instead, ownership will pussyfoot (yeah, that word) around the main issue.

Riley Sheahan ( aka Mr Teletubby)

You know, I always wondered why Mark Mowers wasn't used more on the powerplay. Shanahan was usually in that spot on the slot, but Mowers had an underrated one-timer and should have taken some of Shanny's PP time. This is a brilliant move by the coach. Not like we're going to fall out of last place. Same goes for the powerplay ranking.

    Here's a very blunt read.............

How long before fans start wearing bags on their heads at the games, like you see the worst teams in sports do? If you know someone who can stitch, you can change "Larkin" to say "Malkin", and sell the jersey as a knock off to someone in Russia. You'd only need to change two letters around.

I'd be shocked if he makes it through February if they continue to suck.

Frans Nielsen will represent Red Wings at NHL All-Star Game

Maybe if "Captain Serious" was more talented, his bringing it every night would result in a little more scoring. His offensive numbers don't justify that salary.

Frans Nielsen will represent Red Wings at NHL All-Star Game

Tayes is a better two-way player and leader, but not by enough to make up for the offensive discrepancy between the two.

Have to agree with Gartner there. This isn't track and field, but it still doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that starting from a different spot on the ice can affect time. That being said, someone should send Gartner a text congratulating him for being on the top 100, ahead of Bill Cook, Frank Brimsek and Evgeni Malkin.
