Maybe it's weak comparatively, but the last several seasons have been anomalies, in that the generation inducted was the best in hockey history.

Makarov is the best winger of the 1980's. It's not a weak year, unless you started watching hockey in the 90's and never bothered learning about the game's history. Lindros and Vachon, along with Makarov were the best players not in the HHOF. Long time coming for two of them.

Sadly, few of those people remain.

Have to disagree again. At this point, Glendenning is more useful than Helm. Helm's injury history and lack of production despite lots more icetime have made him obsolete. We're not going to use him in the bottom six because we lack talent in the top six. He will continue to play in the top six and stink it up. As for Jurco, look at his numbers in the NHL the last two years and tell me how he's been misused? He's simply not that good. He won't get more icetime until he can prove he can score. Critics would argue he could score more if he got more icetime. Maybe it's a Catch 22, but I don't think he's made the most of his opportunity.

Glendenning is good at his role. Jurco has no role and ultimately no place. Players like Glendenning and Helm were not acquired through free agency. I guess Miller was, but he's not that special, imo. Holland sucks at acquiring lower line players in the market. He ends up signing guys like Richards and Weiss who then play on the lower lines because they suck. That's not what I'd consider acquiring lower line players.

I would protect Glendenning over Jurco. Glendenning gives us something we don't really have. A right handed faceoff man who can skate, hit and kill penalties. Jurco gives us absolutely nothing.

You would protect Jurco? If I were Holland, I'd be trying to buy Jurco a townhouse in Vegas as we speak.

At this point, I don't think Holland could convince a person coming out of the desert to buy a bottle of water.

Thornton finished top 5 in scoring this year. Zetterberg looked like he should be on the 3rd line of every team. The difference between the two right now is A LOT! Thornton's prime was longer than Zetterberg's, so I'd pick a prime Thornton over him. However, I would take a peak Zetterberg (2008 and 2009) over even Thornton's best season when he won the Hart trophy. Zetterberg was a great playoff performer and two-way player.

The Canadiens named their arena in honor of Jean Beliveau. Wish Detroit would do the same but not gonna happen.

One thing I wish the Wings would learn is how to block shots. The Penguins did a lot of that not just this year but in 2009 as well. Our team needs to stop collapsing and refusing the block shots.

Speed doesn't mean anything if the sticks are being held by guys that can't score. We've built our system on speed as well. However, guys like Nyquist or Tatar have been underwhelming in the playoffs and guys like Helm or Glendenning can't be counted on to score goals. Pittsburgh didn't have a lot of useless players on their roster.
