ECSF : Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals
GMRwings1983 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
This happens to Washington every year in the playoffs. They just stop scoring goals. -
10 years ago today. How time flies. Yzerman's last game. Shanny's last game as a Wing Jason Williams' idiotic penalty Legace threatens to hang himself (but doesn't)
-
He's not the best owner in sports. He may have once been, but he doesn't seem to care about the Wings anymore.
-
Every team in our division has a brighter future than the Wings.
-
Bill Ranford. That was hard to watch. Not only did Colorado win 4 straight, but they annihilated the Wings. The games weren't even close.

http://www.foxsports.com/nhl/story/rangers-defenseman-dan-boyle-curses-out-reporters-at-final-team-presser-042616 Anyone see this? Looks like someone is not thick skinned enough to play in New York. I guess when you play in Florida and San Jose your entire career, you're not used to attention and criticism.

So is the LED roof thing final? They're really going to nix it in favor of that pizza logo dude?
-
Good read. I now have some new Holland quotes to add to my list. My favorite is still "I don't know why they're not coming here"
-
I wish Donald Trump owned this team instead.
-
Even the WWE wouldn't treat its fans this way.
-
Modern day you have to change the definition. No one will win 4 straight anymore or dominate like those Oilers and Montreal teams.
-
Can we put the new logo on the roof of our new arena? I'd be OK with that.
-
"We like our new arena" - Kenny Holland So they basically lied to the city and fans?
-
Yep. Other than Montreal (and that was in a smaller league) no one has won 7 Cups in 14 years. Playoff games tend to be close, so it's natural there will be some near misses. I think the Wings maximized their Cups, but yes maybe they could have sneaked a few more in there. It's just unlikely.
-
That hurt too but 2007 was, by all accounts, a success. We atoned for the prior three playoff chokes by getting to the Conference Finals. We lost to one of the best teams of the decade in Anaheim. Yes, I often wonder about what would happen had we won game 5 (we were so damn close!), but the experience of those playoffs helped the Wings in the next two playoff runs. You could argue that if we won in 2007, we wouldn't have won the Cup in 2008 or made the Finals in 2009. It's just hard to get there every year, even if you have the best team on paper.
-
Other than Jobing.Com Arena (which sounded like "jobber" to me), this may be the worst name of an arena in league history.
-
This might be the biggest reason why Datsyuk retired.
-
That's what I was thinking. Would there be any issue with calling the new arena "Joe Louis Arena" also? The Yankees didn't rename Yankee Stadium despite tearing it down. Is there a distance requirement to how far the new arena must be to keep the same name? I never heard of that.
-
It's getting harder and harder to root for this team. Since Ilitch doesn't care about the team, why can't he just sell it instead of trying to promote his brand? Maybe we can bring back Mark Mowers to deliver pizzas in the stands during the game.
-
Great. We've gone from an arena with the greatest name in sports to the first sports arena named after a pizza. Now Pizza Hut and Papa Johns will want arenas also.

ECSF : New York Islanders vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
GMRwings1983 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I didn't watch the beginning of the game. Were the Isles making him move side to side or were they firing mindless shots from bad angles like the Wings' shooters were? -
Boudreau will likely be fired. Four years in a row losing game 7 at home. Three home losses in this series. He hasn't exactly made friends in the locker room by calling out players in the media. When you're winning, these tirades can be excused, but losing is different. I doubt anyone on that team will be sorry to see him leave.
-
That's one where five or six moments play over and over in you head that could have changed the series. I guess you can do that for 2003, 2004 and 2006, but we'd still have several other rounds to win in those years. In 2009, there were no other rounds left. We were that close.
-
I'd like to wish Bruce Boudreau the best of luck in his future endeavors. Another team with a former Wing dropout on their top line.
-
2009 was the most disappointing of all the losses and the one I remember the most. I wouldn't say it was as embarrassing as those other losses, though.
