I was asking for that line asap in numerous threads over the past while. I'm all for it.

Backes I wouldn't really call a dirty player, but he gets caught up sometimes with his adrenaline where he doesn't like to slow down at all before hits and charges at guys. He also has an issue sometimes where he hits guys in the numbers, but at the same time the player he hits puts himself in that position less than a second before the hit is delivered, which is a fault of a very high % of NHLers. But I will tell you this, If I could have Backes on the Wings, you bet your ass i'd take him. Teams know when he's on the ice cause they don't want to end up in the 5th row. He's tough as nails, he's a decent point producer and he's one intense MF. Imagine him on a line with Helm and Tootoo and tell me that doesn't make you salivate... Backes is like Brown on the Kings. And I'll go on record right now as a die hard 28 years and counting Wings fan, my pick for the Cup this year is the Blues and Backes is gonna be their driving force.

ya man, that makes it even more impressive. top 5 team in the NHL in the Blues and stingy on D. 15 shutouts last year and 1 so far this year. watching Z gives me shivers.

Zetterberg 3 goals, 2 assists, +3 rating, 1 PP goal, 1 SH goal, 8 shots, 9 to 6 on faceoffs = BEASTLY game. And a video of Z fighting for his hat trick goal should be replaying in the Wings dressing room for the rest of the year. That's how you battle to seal a win.

As much as it sucks to say, my boy Z doesnt have 8 years left in his back and his last 2 or so seasons is 1 mil per is it not? So while we have him he'll be worth the money. Especially the way he carries himself and often the team in the playoffs

The longer his beard gets the better he plays. It's like that things takes over him like Dr. Octavious' robot arms or Chris Griffins pimple.....but in a good way.

Maybe Gretzky respects Z a great deal cause he battles harder than most people in the NHL on a regular basis and has one of the best 2 way games in the history of the NHL, not unlike our boy Yzerman. And to add to things, to hell with the regular season. Since the lockout, NO ONE in the NHL has more playoff points than Z. Boom goes the dynamite!

Robyn Regehr would be a good addition to the blue line, or at least someone like him. Almqvist, Oulette, Sproul...all offensive Dmen. Oulette may be more of a 2 way Dman, but still more offensive. We need a big bruising Dman. McKee may be a good shutdown guy, but that's years away. DeKeyser seems more of an offensive guy. Regehr or try and get another Huskins type, or at least keep him and then have Lashoff full time next season. Holland must restore balance to the force!

Brunner kicks ass. Smith has been impressive. If we get rid of Cleary and Quincey and keep Lashoff up and maybe give Nyquist a spot in the top 6 then I'd be 100% happy. The Wings have been playing pretty damn good hockey aside from the first couple games though.

I'm a die hard Wings fan...does that mean I'm not allowed to like St. Louis and Chicago? Cause I do. I've liked the Hawks and Blues since the days of Roenick and Chelios, Hull and Oates. I've been a Sabres fan since LaFontaine and Mogilny. Hell, I used to like the Cansucks when they had Bure and Mogilny. I hope we're not supposed to hate teams cause they aren't the Wings. Once it comes to playoff time, I cheer for Wings far and away #1, but if they get knocked out and Chicago and St. Louis are still in you can bet your ass I'll be cheering for them over crap like Pittsburgh and Vancouver and San Jose. On the bright side though, if the Wings play in the playoffs the way they did last night then we should actually see a legit playoff run. That may be top to bottom the best game I've seen the Wings play in about 2 1/2 - 3 years. Not a schelacking goal wise, but they played 60 minutes of hard nosed hockey and played really well all around.

Funny thing too is all the usual talks last year of "record revenue"... Ultimately, having teams in Quebec and Markham with packed buildings, all that does is make the cap rise due to sell out crowds and makes it harder for teams like Phoenix and Florida among others to keep up. So yeah, I agree with you that before expansion that some of the teams need to make a move.

Agreed. Kindl played really good last night. And in an interview with him that I read on the MLive site, he stated that he had to take his opportunity to play good defense, move the puck well and not get beat 1 on 1. He did all those things against Dallas last night and that includes not getting beat 1 on 1 where late in the game he did a great job keeping the Stars puck carrier to the outside and eventually poked the puck away and ended up with it. For 3.75 mil or whatever Q makes now, I'll take Kindl playing for his life anyday.
