maybe Holland's stockpiling forwards cause we have the annual injury parade half way through the season
-
You discount Brunner who led the Swiss Elite League in points, but you have a huge boner for Granlund who got considerably less points in a comparable league? Keep putting your foot in your mouth. Also, Tatar's what 21? He's been playing against guys way older than him for 3 years now and putting up decent numbers, and this is in a league that has better D and they are much bigger and they hit. I guess we'll find out this year if Granlund earns the $2.1 mil contract he was awarded by your superior GM for being "a good prospect". And your projection for Nyquist being 2nd line max for his potential, pull your head out of your ass. He was at .60 ppg on the 2nd/3rd line before Franzen floated back into the line up and he got plugged on the 4th line. Playing in the top 6 next year, he will in all likelyhood top 50 pts for his actual rookie campaign. Until proven otherwise, my speculation is just as credible as your hate mongering for the Wings' prospects, and anyone's that isn't your precious Wilds' for that matter.

Holland also offered Suter $90mil over 13 years, not $98mil and he offered Parise considerably less, somewhere in the 6.5mil range apparently. therefore, they would have combined for 13-13.5 mil per year, not 15.

I just don't want Subban. He's arrogant and not very good defensively. Good shot and quick, but needs to grow up big time and he'd have to learn his place good and quick in Detroit. Do not want his BS, especially not for Flip.
-
no way in hell Nyquist goes to Calgary in a trade for Bouwmeester, who has sucked for the past 3 years. Nyquist at this point has way more value and doesn't have a ridiculous contract where he's overpaid by 3-4 mil.

Wings are still deeper and better than the Wild. Come talk about teams futures when the Wild make the playoffs, and you can start with the bragging rights when they win the cup. Or even a presidents trophy for that matter. This offseason, all the other GM's, including Yzerman unfortunately, overpaid for what was out there. Next offseason, we've all seen the list of guys that could be had and half the GM's won't have two cents to rub together from their gross overspending this offseason and Kenny will be able to sit and sift through the pack. Weber, Getzlaf and Iginla seems pretty nice to me. This year we can watch a few prospects develop and rotate others in to see if they can hack playing in the NHL. Then next offseason, sign a couple bigger names and see what prospects are ready to go....like Jarnkrok centring the 3rd or 4th line. I'd take the Wings' future over the Wild any day. At least Kenny still has options and money that can be spent.

Hmm....looked like my favourite player in his 20's on that 2nd goal. i forgot about that game. quite the snipe by Gus. Geez, maybe he can do that again this year if he doesn't get pawned off on the 4th line to play with Homer and Emmerton.

I'm in. Franzen and Pulkkinen for Yandle. No trading Flip.
-
Oops I missed that one. I definitely would have Eaves in the lineup. It's hard to keep track of almost 20 fwd's at this point... On top of his RH shot, he's got a cannon off the one-timer.

Sammy's point totals since his first arrival in Detroit were: 45pts/71gms-DET - .63 ppg 34pts/53gms-DET - .64 ppg 40pts/73gms-DET - .55 ppg 53pts/74gms-VAN - .72 ppg 50pts/70gms-VAN - .71 ppg 31pts/54gms-VAN/FLA - .57 ppg If we have Sammy putting up an average of .60 ppg and playing a far superior 2-way game to Hudler and getting 5-10 less points I'd take him any day of the week. Add Tootoo who had 30 points in 77 games getting garbage ice time on a team that sucks offensively at .38 ppg, i'd love that on the 3rd/4th lines along with the grit and intensity he brings. Right there along with Brunner, our 2nd-4th lines have been upgraded. The only thing we didn't get was an elite offensive talent, but we didn't lose that either and what left, has been replaced. The biggest blow is that we lost Lidstrom and since then it's been all doom and gloom here. No matter what Kenny does this offseason, we still don't have Lidstrom to run the blue line, or Stuart to block shots more than anyone else and throw hits. I can't wait for the season to start and for Nyquist and Brunner to start lighting the lamp and for Smith to be over .5 ppg in the top 4 instead of on the 3rd D pairing and making us forget that we lost Stuart to the Sharts. If the season started tomorrow, and assuming Quincey is in the starting lineup, I'd be fine with what we have right now. I'd like to add Vandermeer or Jurcina, but if our lineup looked like the folliwing when the puck dropped on the start of the season i'd be ok with it: Mule-Dats-Nyquist Brunner-Z-Flip Sammy-Helm-Bert Cleary-Abby-Tootoo Mursak/Miller Kronwall-Smith Quincey-White Ericsson-Kindl Howard/Monster I like that there's a lot of potential for a lot of guys to step up, and that the team is actually getting younger despite Z and Dats getting older. Brunner looked pretty good playing on a heavy underdog Switzerland team at the world championships putitng up a point per game.

technically it should be anyone but Heatley lol. and yes if it was about diving, the gooch would get that award.

Sammy and Brunner are improvements over Hudler. Sammy puts up comparable numbers, but also plays a way better 2-way game. Meanwhile Brunner is a right handed sniper with way better wheels and seemingly more creativity. Both are also improvements over the 1-dimensional Homer. Sammy can play the point on the PP and Brunner brings more than just standing in front of the net taking penalties to negate half our PP's, he is fast and can clearly move the puck better, but can also hang on to it and make things happen. Nyquist won't replace Miller cause Miller should be full time on the 4th line. He earned his spot on the team. Nyquist will rotate between 1-3 and should be just fine defensively cause he's good at stealing the puck and has really good wheels to backcheck, unlike Hudler...have fun getting 38 points this year for the Flames, whom suck hard. No one replaces Lidstrom...end of story. In saying that, Smith is my candidate for the Calder Trophy. He has all the tools to be a top 2 dman and has a nose for the net and is a tough SOB. I predict he will ultimately surpass Kronner on the Wings depth chart and that's from a huge Kronwall fan. Didn't improve offensively? We lost Hudler and gained Sammy to offset his scoring, Tootoo, whom on a team that gets F all for scoring, got 35ish points on the 3rd/4th lines and added the Swiss Elite league scoring champ who was also a point per game at the world championships. How many we're doomed threads are you going to make this offseason? We're a week and a bit into free agency and there's 3 months until the season starts, if it starts...

nope, they went there because their respective v.a.g.i.n.a's quiffed and the sound it made was unmistakeable. Minne-squish-sota. that is to say their women both put on farmer Ryan's coveralls and started driving the tractors over a state and the boys had no choice but to sign with an awesome hockey team that has super nice jerseys and Dany F'n Heatley! aka, the team designated driver.
-
Apparently Semin is not going to be a Wing though he hasn't signed anywhere else yet and may not work out on the Wings if he signed anyways. So Holland sucks...lol.

David Jones was signed by an inferior GM that obviously isn't planning on much of a future dishing out overpayments. The knock on Franzen comes from last year when he stated that he gets bored during the season and disappears for stretches when we need him to step up and help do things like lock up home ice for the playoffs. When lids was hurt and when Dats was hurt, Flip stepped up big time putting up a point per game and Franzen floated around wishing he was at Disney World having fun.... That's when i lost what respect remained for Franzen and wished he be traded for a guy that feels a little more lucky to be paid millions to play the greatest game in the world AS A JOB! As far as i'm concerned, he can be burnt at the stake. I love hockey and would love nothing more than to make league min to play hockey in the NHL for 20 years and love every minute of it and work my ass off to be remembered as someone who put it all on the line every game, not some lazy d-bag who thinks there's more fun out there.

Sign Jurcina or Vandermeer and call it a day
Z Winged Dangler replied to stevkrause's topic in General
All for this idea. Vandermeer or Jurcina would replace Stuart for the time being and beef up the blue line. I like the idea of rotating our prospects through this year and giving them not just 4th line minutes like we've seen so often, but put them on the 2nd and 3rd lines to expose them a little more and see what they're made of. Andersson and Sheahan would be good 3rd line guys, while Tatar would be better suited to take a crack at the top 6 if he gets called up. I just get sick and tired of seeing guys get called up and sit on the bench or play 3 minutes per game and not even get a chance to show what they're made of. Not sure what guys are ready to make the jump on D, but signing one of Vandermeer or Jurcina would be a good insurance signing. -
I'm onboard for anything involving getting a good young dman with the floater going the other way. Living in New York seems like fun right?
-
Weber, Getzlaf and some other intriguing names are UFA next year as well unless they sign extensions with their clubs. I'd rather see lots of young guys rotate through this year to see which one's belong in the NHL and then build around those young guys that will secure the future. Semin has offensive potential, but i wouldn't want to sign him for more than 1 year.
-
The big problem this poses as a fan for every other team in the NHL is that when the expansion is made, how many players are you allowed to put off limits to the team entering the league? I don't want to see one of our young guys or a good depth player getting snagged on the expansion draft.

Wings hire Lidstrom as overseas amateur scout
Z Winged Dangler replied to DesertWing's topic in General
I love the comment that someone made on TSN...Lidstrom will most likely only provide good scouting reports for dmen. All the forwards scouting reports will be "not that great, seems like he'd be easy to shut down". I lol'd. -
Then they can sign enough good dmen to have a proper top 4 and not pay Gilbert $4mil? Don't forget, Backstrom also makes $6mil and Koivu over $6mil and they're not gonna take the pay cut that Heatley will have to take to remain with the team. The bottom 6 depts is not that great and they have 3 good dmen now that Suter's there. As good as the prospect pool is, they have to wait a couple years to get them in there because of all the plugs that are signed. And Setoguchi will probably ask for a raise too when his contract is up. Either way you look at it, i don't believe that the Wild will have a line-up solid enough top to bottom to make it even to the WCF.
-
Holland also mentioned before that it's time to let a few of the kids play. and with every other GM in the league blowing their wad over guys this year, next summer Kenny will be able to offer the UFA's what they're actually worth with the other GM's unable to match offers to guys like Weber, Getzlaf and so on. We may be pleasantly surprised this year with guys like Brunner, Nyquist and Smith and then strenghen the team further next summer with a fairly large pick up. I'm on board with the idea of getting a grunt shutdown shot blocking dman like Vandermeer and calling it for the offseason unless another GM approaches Holland with a "fair" offer that doesn't include Filppula, Smith, Nyquist and a 1st rounder for Nash or Ryan....which is a gross overpayment for either guy.

Evander Kane is a Better Option than Zach Parise
Z Winged Dangler replied to MrBest7's topic in General
The biggest problem here in Winnipeg is that the MTS Centre was made for the Manitoba Moose with a shooting star wish that one day it would house an NHL team. the 15,300 seats in the arena needs to be addressed and have 3000 added. that's on average another $300,000+ profit per game the Jets are losing out on to every other franchise in the NHL. With selling out every game which is done here, it would add over 12.3 million to the final profit amount seeing as there's a huge waiting list for tickets as well as a 5 year waiting list for season tickets. The future here is safe, but is also contingent on an action plan to add more seats to the MTS Centre or just build a proper size NHL rink with about 20,000 seats. As for Kane and Wheeler signing here with their pay raises coming...there's lots of teams in the NHL that spend to the cap and revenue sharing bails them out. At least in Winnipeg there's fans in the seats. Personally, I think that there's a much better chance of Kane moving than Wheeler who will most likely be re-signed before the trade deadline. Also, Kane has 1-30 goal season, but he's also 20 years old. His speed, grit and scoring ability would be great for the Wings. -

I just had a great idea. I love the Jets, and am from Winnipeg, but I can't not throw this idea out there. Offer the Jets $1 for the rights to Kane.
