We already have a Zadina.

Yeah, I was pumped when Perron got signed. Perfect player to have around for a couple of seasons to teach the youth how to play the right way, while also producing.

Restarting the rebuild - Fully wiping the Holland slate clean

It's refreshing to see roster predictions that don't include Zadina. Too early to tell on Cossa, but I do get a kick out of ppl who think he will be on the roster before the end of this season. We're set for at least a few years with Husso at least. The dude is legit. -

I said that would be the starting point, not the final ask. I also said nothing about a C prospect. When I say a young center with a high upside, that pretty much means A prospect. So it's pretty clear that I said it takes a first and a high-end prospect just to get things started. Clearly, it would take more than that. I've also stressed over and over that I do not want to see him traded and very much want to see that 8-year extension. A trade scenario should only occur if we reach TDL with no ink to paper. Not an unreasonable thought. -

Oh yeah, for me the ask for Larkin at 50% salary retained would start with a 2023 first and a young center with upside. -

Even with Hossa, the team was a cup-fav. You don't sell in that circumstance. Trading him for the sake of it? 100%. But if he remains unsigned come deadline time? Got to get what you can before risking losing for nothing. To be fair, IF it came to that, Larkin would be the prize of the TDL and would bring in a haul. -

Any GM in a rebuild who loses their best player entering the prime of his career for nothing in UFA because of a "handshake deal" deserves to be fired. Period. Stevie Y or not. The only time this risk is acceptable is if it's a team primed to make a playoff run. This Wings team is not there yet. I say this as someone who is very much pro-Larkin and wants him to be a career Wing. But he has to put pen to paper. -
That draft was purely Holland grabbing any player who managed to fall to him

Truth. Like, I want Larkin to stay, and I think he will. He's an important part of this team and should be for at least 8 more years. But if the man doesn't put pen to paper before TDL, we cannot afford to risk losing him for no return. It would be devastating. This is not like Stamkos in Tampa where they were a playoff team and needed him for the playoff run, regardless of risk. This is a team rebuilding. If our best player cannot commit to staying by the deadline, we need to get a haul for him. Straight up. f*** this handshake agreement bulls***. There is no legal basis for a handshake. People can change their minds. The trade deadline is March 3. If Larkin doesn't put pen to paper by mid-February, Yzerman should be listening to offers. For anyone who wants to reply to this telling me how wrong I am and Larkin won't be traded and will not re-sign until after the season, please do not waste your time. I do not care. -
To be fair, Holland risked losing him for Joe Veleno.

Look. We see the Larkin situation differently and aren't gonna change each other's minds. Can we just leave it at that? -

Selling Larkin is dumb. Unless he doesn't sign a deal before TDL. But that shouldn't happen. -
Please enlighten me on which of our draft picks is ready to step in and be a stay-at-home dman on the top pair?
-
I just wish the experiment with Mo would ******* end. Swap Chiarot with Oesterle at this point. Or trade for a legit stay at home dman
-
I too think a Larkin deal gets done. But concern within me grows the longer we go without an announcement. It's only sensible, however, if a deal isn't done by TDL that he has to be moved. Under no circumstance can this team risk losing Larkin for nothing. It would set the rebuild back a couple of years at best. I'd love Bert to stick around for the right price. But yeah, he's as good as gone. Hopefully, Bert's status has no implications on Larkin.
-
So he IS gonna be moved? Gotcha.
-
Agreed. And what would really sting is the team wouldn't be bad enough to have a legit chance at a guy like Bedard. We'd get a nice haul for Bert and Larkin. But would it lead to acquiring another potential 1C? I have my doubts.
-
I agree. The vax thing no longer being an issue all but confirms it tbh. I'm just getting more and more concerned that Larkin has yet to put pen to paper. Before the season started word was they were close to a deal. Nothing since. Because Larkin can't survive the TDL without a contract either. This rebuild could start looking way different if Larkin doesn't re-sign on time.

Goaltending let them down this time. They outplayed the Leafs pretty good. It was nice to see. -

Wallstedt AHL stats: GAA: 3.24 SV%: .891 Oh look, Wallstedt sucks
-
He is not even in the AHL yet. Slow down. He isn't gonna be rushed because of his size. It's s*** like this that lead to people calling young prospects bust when they don't light up the league before they even hit 20.
-
I wouldn't say I'm pro-trading Linstrom. But unless we see significant growth from him in short order, I'm not sure where he fits in as other dmen start cracking the roster. I think he'll be in the league for a lot of years. But he'll likely need to end up on a bad team where he can get lots of playing time to get where he needs to be. I don't see where he gets that opportunity in Detroit.

Says the guy who thinks Cossa will be NHL-ready by the trade deadline
-
Keep Maata. Have Edvinsson, Walman, Oesterle round out 5-7. You got to imagine guys like AJ, Sebrango, could step up and fill in when injuries hit.
