Vatenen has never hit 40 points in his entire NHL career. I mean, he was a 40 point dman in the AHL, so i'll give you that. It was a known bad trade at the time, and it looks even worse now. Especially considering the Ducks were well into their decline at this point and should have been hanging on to their top prospects. Marchessault scored 30 in his first full NHL season. He was only flirting with making the NHL full time before that. You make it sound as if he was some useless guy who came out with one banger of a year. Smith had a down year on a bad team. It happens. It's not the fact that they lost Smith to Vegas. It's not the fact that they lost Marchessault to Vegas. It's that they lost Smith AND Marchessault to Vegas. Florida could have done nothing and just lost one of these guys. They traded Smith to ensure they drafted Marchessault because they were afraid to lose ******* Jason Demers. Who they pretty well immediately traded for Jamie McGinn.... So please, continue to bless us all with your knowledge of how giving up Smith and Marchessault for Jamie McGinn is hindsight. Hindsight is William Karlsson coming out scoring the way he did in Vegas. Theodore, Marchessault, and Smith? Not so much.

Anaheim traded Theodore to keep Vatanen. Let that sink in. Everyone knew Theodore's potential at the time of that trade. Not only that, they traded Vatanen that same damn season. Florida mismanaged their roster so badly that they gave up Smith AND Marchessault. Gotta imagine teams will be more aware of this type of s*** when it comes to Seattle.

So you're literally saying Flip is our worst center at faceoffs, and we should let him do so on the first line because of that?

Filppula and Fabbri on the top line is a great idea if we wanna see a repeat of last year's goal differential.

    2020 Offseason

One year is not an indication of a trend... Fabbri shouldn;t touch center in the top 6 at this stage. If he dominates center on the third line, try him on the second line. No sane hockey mind would ever start Fabbri as the first line center. If Larkin was not on this team, Fabbri wouldn't start as the #1 center. Glendening would play 1C at this point before Fabbri. At least he can match up against high end players defensively. And for the record, Fabbri did not have a breakout season. He simply matched his production from the season before his injuries. AKA he has finally become the player he was 4 years ago. Haven't you heard? Flip is clearly our top line winger

    NHL 21

It sucks, but the NHL team is so small they aren't lying when they say they don't have the resources. It's an afterthought franchise after FIFA and Madden. It was the same deal the year the PS4/XBONE came out. Had to wait the following year for next gen hockey.

NHL 21 is not getting a PS5 release sadly. NHL 22 will be the first.

Not the worst idea at all. Bonuses to keep him motivated to perform and maintain trade value.

    2020 Offseason

Absolutely, but he has since said he'd be willing to go the one year deal route. That's when I was like f***, hope Yzerman is working some magic here. I do think he is waiting to see what happens with next season starting.

    2020 Offseason

Gotta imagine he'd be off the market by now if he was willing to take 6 million for one year. I'd offer him whatever it took if he is willing to sign. Retain half the salary at the deadline, and all is well. If any RFA or UFA points at that contract crying about their own value, it's an attempt to buy a first round pick or high end prospect +. Regardless, Hoffman for one year is likely a pipe dream as I said previously. But it would be a hell of a move for the trade deadline haul.

    2020 Offseason

If he wasn't asking for much he'd be signed by now. Clearly he wants more money than teams are willing to spend at this juncture, even at one year. So it's likely he has to come down in his asking price or he has to wait and see what GMs are willing to do once they know what next season looks like.

    2020 Offseason

Plenty of teams have shown interest. Something like 13 reported teams. Many teams can't afford to take on salary due to the uncertainty of Covid and can't afford a season without fans as is. The flat cap also restricts things for many. He had the one issue in Ottawa and there hasn't been any known issues with him since. The man wants to get paid, and that is clearly why he is willing to bet on himself on a one year deal. My guess is he gets signed when GMs have a better idea of what next season looks like. Also, maybe he simply doesn't want to go to a bottom feeder. Ever consider that?

It was Ottawa, so who knows really. But the dude would easily be the biggest trade deadline rental on the market. I know it'll never happen, but I can dream.

If it's character guys Yzerman wants, he'll steer clear of AA. I'd say offer Hoffman a huge one year deal with the promise of moving him to a contender at the deadline.

Seems the 7 non playoff teams will get an extended training camp when hockey does resume https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2041777

Then you have a situation where players are away from home for a very long time. There has been talk of a Canadian-only division to prevent border crossing which would solve that issue. I wonder if they'll try and convince to players to take a hit on salary to keep expenses down. Owners and players do share revenue 50/50. Perhaps they'll be asked to "share" deficits as well? My guess is whatever gets worked out will lead to a CBA extension that gives players some stuff back.

I certainly hope we get a 20/21 season. It's just gonna be a tall order, albeit not impossible, to convince many owners to take that loss on the chin up front.

Everything I said is based on if's. At no point do I say we will or will not have hockey. I'm merely saying it's silly to think the league is somehow gonna triple or quadruple their next TV deal when evidence in the wild says otherwise. Some owners themselves have stated they can't afford the cost of business without fans. At no point to I establish a timeline on when fans can return, so no, my argument has nothing to do with predicting when things will be back to normal. Stick with the discord circle-jerk if you have nothing of value to offer here.

Tell that to owners who have already stated they cannot afford a season without ticket sales. I'm just going by what's been said in recent news over a guy on the internet speculating out of his ass about tripling or quadrupling their current TV deal. The finals couldn't even outdraw wrasslin' on Friday nights, and they just recently got a $205 million per year deal from FOX. Would love to see how the NHL will somehow get 600+ million per year based on deciding to play this season. Sure, the TV deal will be better if they play. But triple to quadruple? C'mon now. Bottom line: they still have to convince owners to take huge losses to play this season. IF they take a year off, they'll still have the more lucrative Rogers deal to fall back on. Owners will likely be more willing to take an annual hit on an NBC deal if they can wait for fans to return. We're talking a potential hit on a 200 million TV deal split over what will be 32 teams. Say they only get $150 million on their next deal. That's 50 mil lost split over 32 teams over x number of years. Many owners may be more willing to swallow that pill than losing at least tens of millions of dollars to play the 20/21 season.

Needing money is why we might not get a season. NHL is very gate-driven as far as money goes. Many teams can't afford the cost of operations without ticket sales.

He was 10x worse in Discord. Thing is, s*** posts like his will actively prevent many new users. Things will pick up as the team gets better again. Just the way it goes. We don't need him here deterring people. He already has long time posters questioning why they bother coming back here. But yeah, Lou is on crack if he thinks he can dump Boychuck for anything less than a first.
