10/3 Exhibition GDT : Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs, 7:00 EST
marcaractac replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Not only does Toronto care about baseball right now, but so does the rest of the entire country. They are the talk of the town regardless of where you are. But please, keep getting mad about Rogers airing a game of a team they own. -
Chicago re-signs Seabrook; 8 years, $6.875 AAV

Pretty good deal for a dman of his caliber. Do not see what is so albatross about it. -
9/26 Exhibition GDT : Boston Bruins at Red Wings, 7:00 EST

I'd imagine being potentially the odd man out, they want to give him some ice time to see how he fares under a new coach. They already know what they have with all the others. -
It all changed when the CONCUSSIONS started.

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)
marcaractac replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
This is why you build teams with a little thing called balance. Guess what happens if all your D is shutdown dmen? Your team doesn't score goals and end up on the wrong side of 1-2 and 2-1 games. Green is expected to play responsible hockey, he is not expected to come in and play shut down defense. That's why he is paired with DeKeyser. -
People are also very quick to forget that Franzen became that good by working his ass off. Hence why his nickname was 'The Mule' to begin with.

While I have no doubt mistakes will be made, I feel like there will be less this year. Our puck possession should improve a lot, which automatically eliminates some. It will be great if Quincey can keep building off of his season and we see an improvement from Smith under a new coach. Fingers crossed!

totes thought this said Therien and was gonna yell OBSTRUCTION

Not wanting to watch games does not equal being salty about it. He is a competitor, of course he'd rather play than sit. But he not once whined about. ever. What was he supposed to do, talk about how much he loves getting paid to be in the press box? The quote you posted was absolutely professional on his part. Reasons like that very quote are one of a few why management keeps him around.

100% this. Sure GR already has great leadership, but Cleary is a guy who has been through it all, and knows what it takes to play in the NHL and stay there (until his body started to fall apart). The current leadership group in GR is fine, but they are also career AHLers. Not to mention he can fill in if the Wings get hit with the injury plague. The players and coaching staff has always liked having him around. No harm done. Even during all his time as a healthy scratch, he never got sour about it.

I actually hope we keep Quinces around. He became an important part of this team whether people are willing to admit it or not.

This contract is nothing more than thanks but no thanks. He'll be a good leader for the kids in Gradew, because that is absolutely where he will spend the season.

Penguins Sale: Lemieux and Burkle asking for $750 million
marcaractac replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
They are definitely aiming wayy too high. The only teams that could find a buyer for anything in that price range are the Leafs and Habs, as they will make piles of cash no matter what. It's basically a sure thing of an investment. The Pens? Not so much. -
I think he'd be a good fit with the Griffins really. Have him room with Mantha, maybe his work ethic will rub off on him. I would also enjoy the meltdown on here if Holland were to sign him again.

At least it shows that they care. Stuff like that happens. Just unfortunate they did it with cameras watching. -
Holland doesn't expect to be busy this offseason
marcaractac replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
That 5+ year contract thing is a rule Beeston put in place, who is done at the end of the season. Hence why Dombrowski is heavily rumoured to be taking that job. While I not expect Price to stick around (though I hope he does), making the playoffs and making a run of it would make the team more attractive to free agents compared to years past regardless. -
The difference between Mantha and Larkin is that Larkin has already shown he can play with men. The jury is still out on Mantha. Is it a small sample size? Sure. But in that very short span, he has shown a lot more than Mantha has over a much longer stretch.

In the end, this team will never win with Howard as the starter. The sooner Mrazek becomes the undisputed #1, the better off we all are. Howard gave us stability in goal during the rebuild. I am thankful for that. He is good enough to rack up some great regular season numbers, but his weaknesses become amplified in the playoffs.

Maybe these contracts will actually prevent a lockout. Will owners really wanna lockout the players and eliminate revenue right after paying out all these big bonuses? Maybe this will actually be incentive to keep the guys on the ice and the money coming back in. Sure there are lots of contracts out there with this "lockout protection", but if July 1st keeps going the way it has this year, maybe everyone will finally be happy with the way things are going.

Who is the better player Zetterberg or Toews. Prime vs. Present
marcaractac replied to kickazz's topic in General
Toes is no doubt the better player now. Both of them at their best are pretty well equal. Both amazing players capable of carrying their team on their back. I give Toews the prime vote simply because he will likely be at that level longer than Hank. Depending on what time of day you ask me, my choice for best in their prime would change. They are both just that good. If both were in their prime, and I were a gm who had to choose any current player to build a team around, Toews and Hank would be the top 2 options. Having said that, I would choose prime Dats and Hank as a pair over Toews and Kane any day. Eurotwins for life, yo. -

Yeah they made a couple more good moves today, including getting Mark Lowe for the pen. The only bummer about Price is that it's all but certain he will be elsewhere next season. -

All 3 of the prospects have potential, but Norris is definitely a top prospect. Sucks to see him go,but good to see the Jays are finally going for it after 22 years of disappointment. In the end, the Jays big time overpaid for a rental. But it's a much better story than the usual "New York Yankees acquire ......." -
