It doesn't exist. Cherry said Babs should stay, but the rest is made up.

I can only assume it is 50 mil for 10 years. But in 5 years time, it is a safe bet to say 5 mil per year would no longer make for the highest paid coach. SO I wouldn't say that 50 million contract is a sure thing for Babs to accept, unless that amount is for something insane like 5 years. Edit: spelling

He said no talking contract until after the season. Media talks about him all season long anyway. He spent more time telling media he isn't going to talk about it than anything, and it did not stop the speculation and it did not stop them from asking him about it. Didn't matter what he said. His contract status and success was always gonna drum up media hype. If you think this is bad, just wait and see what happens if Crosby ever goes through this. And yes, he said he would make a decision in 10 days or so. Then he and Holland decided on the Grand Rapids road trip, and the trip to the World Championships. s*** happens. People got pissed off when Parise and Suter didn't sign with a team on July 1st as well. As if they were obligated to make a decision that day to please fans. I think it is foolish that people allow media influence to get to them like this. It's not Babs fault the media won't stop, just like it wasn't Parise or Suter's a couple years back.

This is basically why I think that even if Babs does sign long term and Blash gets an NHL gig elsewhere, he will absolutely come back when given the chance to coach the Wings down the road. Just like I think Stevie Y will end up back in the organization down the road.

That's not how media works. He could have come out and said "I will not coach for a Canadian team" at the start of the season, and the Canadian media would still make everything about him. It's just how they are.

If Babs stays and we lose Blash, I'm willing to bet Blash makes his way back to the Wings organization down the line.

If he leaves, I hope he goes West. He knows this team too well for me to want to see him coach another team in the East. It would be Mclellan going to SJ all over again. Babs new team would just own us all the damn time. I could not handle it if that were to be the Leafs.

If Babs leaves and Blash takes his place, I will just close my eyes during post game pressers and it will basically be the same thing. Realgud.

He didn't drag out the decision all year. He said from camp he will discuss contracts when the season ended. Season is over, and he is taking care of everything sooner rather than later. Should he have made his decision day one just to please you? If you were getting hampered by media day in and day out, wouldnt you give a short interview just to clear the air and get all info out there right from his own mouth? Makes sense to me.
