To be fair the 2005-2006 team has been blowing it in playoffs every year since 2002. When Bowman retired, we had a series of great teams and early exit stinkers year after year. It is when we finally got Babs things started to turn things back around for the better. We got lucky. The best coach in the business wanted to come here. Lets just hope he wants to stay. Because once he leaves, there isn't another Babcock to take his place.

This team was only great for 2 seasons under his tenure. 2007/08 and 2008/09. 2006-2007 they were building up to that cup winning team. After 2009 age started catching up to some guys, injuries to others. So they gradually made the roster younger and are building it back up again. That's 2 seasons where Babs had a legit contender to coach. Won a cup in one, and f*** what happened in the second. Not to mention he got a young, inexperienced and injury riddled team into the playoffs the last 2 seasons. A huge part of the reason the kids are playing so well is because of Babs. People need to realize that. The guy is an absolute pro. Never throws his players under the bus, never whines about refs, and he brings out the best in his players. He also commands respect from his players. Invaluable qualities.

The only bad thing is, is that those who do want Babs gone won't realize how big a mistake it would be unless it actually happens. So I definitely hope to have the few Babcock haters to keep on hating and being frustrated for another 4-5 years lol

Which is what happens when you lose one of the greatest dmen of all time and had a large influx of youth injected into the lineup all at once. There *might* be one or 2 other coaches who could have done with this team these last few years what Babs has. The team will only continue to improve, especially if Babs sticks around. He'll turn this squad into a winner. That's what he does.

Truth. Some are anxious to see what Blash can do. But why stick with just him when right now we have both. I'd love to see Blash become an assistant to babs for a couple more seasons before being a head coach. throw lots of money at him to try and keep him around, I say.

Let the best coach in the league walk and hope for the best with a rookie coach? Probably not the smartest move to make if it can be avoided lol. If Babs leaves, it will be because he wants to go elsewhere. As it should be with a coach like him. Eakins had a lot of success in the AHL as well. Not having so much a time as an NHL coach though.

NO! lol In all seriousness, with the drastic improvement he has already shown in his very young NHL career, it would be crazy to give him up unless it was a package for one of the top dmen in this league. I think Smith has far too much upside to trade away for a top 4, when he himself could grow into a top pairing dman in time.

Couldn't agree more. All it will take is a deep playoff run for this team with all this youth, combined with the loyalty the franchise has (in most cases) always shown, to once again make this an attractive UFA destination. The new arena won't hurt either.
