    Ehrhoff or Niskanen

That would be such a fantastic defensive lineup.

    Ehrhoff or Niskanen

Erhoff would be a great pickup if Niskanen goes elsewhere. But I think Niskanen has to be the #1 target Tuesday. Young, righty, coming into his prime. He'd become part of the core for this team for many years to come, where I feel Erhoff would be a stop gap for a few years then start to decline.

Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Kindl is as good as gone. There will be some team needing to reach the cap floor. The pairing of him and Lashoff has been brutal. No way both those 2 return. Lashoff sticking around as 6/7 is the most we will see from those two.

If you're gonna spot pick certain things I talk about and just ignore the rest so you can make up these silly little come backs, I'm just gonna stop wasting my time responding to you. Have fun!

Nah man. Free agency is a great way to kill time at work. There is all summer for moves to be made. I won't hang myself is Detroit doesn't end up with anything on Tuesday.

Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Dude, read my post. The eat crow thing was said once I mentioned the idea of Holland trading Mule. But hey, if you wanna play all the kids and see first round exists for a few more seasons, be my guest. Exactly. Still not sure how that post could have been mistaken for signing Iggy or franzen haters having anything to do with the consumption of crow

I'll never have anything bad to say about Detroit. I stick up for the city all the time, and I unfortunately have yet to ever be there. Key word yet. But sadly that basically sums up what most people think about Detroit when it comes up (hence why I always stick up for the place). It's not too much of a stretch to think some players might sway their decision based on that perception, with their only Detroit experience having been being there long enough to catch some sleep and play a game.

The Holland haters would eat crow. The one guy people *wrongfully* whine about more than Franzen

Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Jesus Christ. Wouldn't give that up for Weber, let alone yandle. Also, 7 years 42 million would be a fantastic contract for Niskanen. That would be huge to land those 3 pieces. Does make ya wonder who would be shipped off for Myers. I'd imagine Kindl would be moved as a salary dump. Edit: Iginla could be paid mostly on bonuses, so he can be had for cheap. Maybe Holland will trade Mule and make soooo many haters eat crow? lol

Sounding like Flyers may have gotten 1st pick with Simmonds being part of what goes the other way

2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

I don't mean teams will be having fire Sales, I just mean that the top teams in the east will be losing a player or two, and the Wings have the space to add. Top teams will regress, Wings will improve.

Pens to. They have a bit of space, but a LOT of roster spots to fill. I said it earlier. The top teams in the east are gonna have to get rid of guys. Wings have an opportunity here to become a contender in the East.

2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Something I just thought of. Maybe Holland is after Myers now because once Niskanen is signed many more GM's will start calling about him? Perhaps make a trade before a bidding war starts. Once Niskanen is off the market, teams will be desperate to upgrade their defense. Maybe trading for Myers now is a surefire way to acquire a need at a lower cost.

I agree that it depends on the package. But including Smith would not improve the defense now. Buffalo is in full rebuilding mode. We can get Myers without roster players if it came down to it. Probably throw Kindl their way just to clear roster space. My guess is if we traded for Myers, it would be a dman prospect going the other way, along with a 1st and dumping someone like Kindl just to clear a roster spot. Of course I'd 100% rather see Niskanen here. But if that can't happen, Myers would be a nice addition. Despite his regression, I think a fresh start can steer his career in the right direction.

2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Exactly. It is difficult to learn how to play in this league when the team around you is falling apart and lacks leadership. Look at Edmonton. Loaded with talent, nobody to learn from. Nobody to teach their top players how to play a complete game, etc. While I don't think Myers is the ideal solution, it isn't a move I'd be unhappy to see. It would make the team better.

I do think a lot of that has to do with the Sabres as a whole really. Myers has the tools, I think a fresh start could work wonders for him. Especially to have a vet like 55 to play with and learn from.

2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

If a trade for Myers happens today, I would imagine it would be due to a lot of uncertainty after speaking with the Niskanen camp. Myers would be a good alternative, just more of a risk.

If we trade for Myers there will definitely be a first involved, whether it be this years or next.

    Kesler traded to Anaheim

Because he didn't want to come here. Nothing Holland could have done. It was either Chicago or Anaheim.

Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

As far as contract goes, I think 6 million per year at whatever term it takes to get him is fair. Even if it has to go a little beyond that, I think Holland should do it. Sounds crazy, yes. But the cap will rise, and that contract gets better and better. He is a player who would become a part of the core of this team for many years. He is only entering his prime. With his age and skill, money can't be what makes him go elsewhere. Detroit's biggest problem last season was not enough puck moving dmen. Another huge issue was not having enough dmen who can get a point shot through. Niskanen solves both of those issues, and is a righty to boot. Clarkson, Clowe. Those are UFA's you do not overpay for. Niskanen is one of those that you do. Much like Suter was a couple years back. If the overpayment is within reason, throw what he is looking for at him. At his age he still wouldn't be regressing at the end of a max term contract. Edit: He'd still get to play with great players in Detroit as well. He'd also be a top pairing guy instead of a #4 guy. People always wonder why he'd choose Detroit over Pittsburgh. That right there is a big reason why. A bigger role is very appealing to a lot of players. They wanna be THE go to guy. Kronwall and Niskanen manning the point together on a PP. Just thinking about it makes me hope Holland can get him here.

Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

The thing is, the Weiss signing still hasn't been proven to be a bad one. The guy was hurt. Very unfortunate, but he has done nothing to hurt the team. Even when he was playing while hurt, he was never a liability. He was being hindered by his injury and couldn't produce the way he is capable of. I am 100% convinced he will shut a lot of people up this coming season. As for Niskanen, people keep on preaching one good year, but he was a very good player before this past season to. He kept improving each and every year, and will likely continue to do so. His style is exactly what this team needs. Like Rafalski was in 2007, Niskanen would be the perfect fit for this team and would make the Wings that much better. Looking at the East, the likes of Boston and Pittsburgh are gonna lose a couple players. They will still be strong teams, but it is looking like they may not be as strong as last season (which could change of course). Both teams are having cap issues. This is the Wings chance to get better and get closer to their level. Sign Niskanen and see what the team got. With continued improvement of the kids, address further needs at the deadline if no moves make sense this summer. False. With the cap increasing, even 6 million per year becomes a very nice contract for a player of his caliber in 2-3 years.
