I said when the Wings got eliminated last year Franzen was done. When I saw him smiling in the handshake line when Chicago knocked us out, It was obvious he no longer cared about winning. He got his cup and his contract. Time to take the contract away from him. I can guarantee some team out there would offer him more money than he already makes. Let him become someone else's problem. I get there are some out there who are disappointed in the kids lack of production. But for some it was their first NHL playoffs against the best defensive team in the league. Remember when Datsyuk didn't produce in the playoffs? The kids just have to learn how to win, much like Dats and Hank have had to. But with Mule, there are always excuses. It's one thing to have someone playing hurt. But with Franzen there are excuses each and every year. It is time to cut him lose. At his age, his production is only gonna get worst. And trading him is not worth the risk.

All depends on when he retires. It can be very bad, it could possibly not be all that bad. In the end, not worth the risk as it isn't like the team would know a couple years ahead of time when he'd retire to prepare for it. The cap penalty would basically come out of nowhere which would be disastrous is it were a big one

Legwand wasn't on the "fourth" line because he can't cut it as a second line center. He was on that line so give the team some balance to play 4th lines. It's not like the 4th line was only playing a few minutes a game here. They were getting 2nd line ice time depending on the game, dating back to the end of the regular season. But if you want to base your arguments solely off of looking at the lineup sheet, then go right ahead. Babs depended on that line to play a lot of important minutes in the series. You make it sound as if he was nothing more than a 4th liner seeing 3 or 4 minutes per game. Don't worry, Weiss will have you eating crow soon enough

No need to buy out Tootoo with only 1 year left on his deal. The cap hit is far from hurting the team.

Nobody is saying he is gonna magically solve all this teams problems. I don't think it is far fetched to say he is our future goalie. But he will never get to grow into that roll in the AHL, which is why he needs to be the next Red Wings back up. So he can get his experience and get better.

Comparing his game to Zetterberg is not the same as saying he will be another Zetterberg.

That's why Mrazek needs to be backing him up next season rather than bring Gus back on another deal. Mrazek is the guy who this team will win with. Time to get him regular NHL playing time. I dont think a whole lot needs to be done on D. Having E healthy gives a solid top 4 is Smith keep improving the way he has. The issue putting together a solid 3rd pairing. Having a vet shut down dman would go a long way in helping that.

If he were traded, The Wings would be the team getting screwed in the end with a huge cap hit when he retires. Trading him would be insanity. A buyout is the only option.

He has to be bought out if anything. Can't risk a trade as this team will be in cap hell when he no doubt retires before the contract is up.

And Oulette. I haven't heard anything about him being sent back down since his call up. I could be wrong, of course.

This game could have been a blowout if it wasn't for the post and marchand's nose blocking his view. Sure he made a couple big saves. Hardly a great game. A lucky game is a better way to put it.
