I feel like Veleno will be one of those guys that puts up excellent 3C numbers and has a couple of seasons in his prime where he overachieves and throws up 2C numbers. He got a lot of Jordan Staal comparisons at his draft, which is what knocked him down on the board as GMs questioned his offensive ceiling. I'll be pumped if he has a Jordan Staal-esque career.

I agree with what you're saying, I guess I was too vague on the Berggren thing. Berggren has been knocked for playing a perimeter game in Sweden in the past. That was where that comparison came from. Clearly, the staff is making sure this dude adjusts and plays the NA game the right way. Because of his IQ and skill set, he is thriving at it. Maybe Zadina could have used some of that, maybe he never had any hope, to begin with. I'm just happy Veleno is showing continued improvement, because he can be a valuable 3C who can move up and down the lineup (center or wing) if he pans out. Those guys are important.
-
I don't think he should be traded because he is not Vrana or Raymond. I think he should be traded because he is barely more than Adam Erne. Unlike Zadina, Veleno is showing growth as he gets more experience. Zadina's brand of hockey simply doesn't produce at this level. His effort is there in the sense that he tries at the type of game he plays. He skates hard, backchecks, etc. He just seems to not like the physicality that comes with going to the net or battling along the boards. Like, I agree that he should be moved. Take the win hahah.

The Dadanov trade was reverted. Vegas is f***ed when their injured return. I'd take Hague and Dadanov (assuming we not on his 10 team no no list). He'd have to sit for the rest of the season, but that's a solid, young LHD option.

The effort is there. The skill is there. But he is a perimeter player who just has not adjusted. It's no wonder that they are focused so hard on evolving Berggren's game in the AHL. The best case of action IMO is to trade him for another player of similar age who is also struggling to live up to his draft position, like Turcotte. You'd hope a change of scenery and approach could help both guys out with new clubs.

I'm still 100% on the trade Zadina for Turcotte train.

Sadly Rossi's ELC is gonna be pretty crucial for them to not become a dumpster fire during the cap recapture penalty seasons.
-
If they do get burned, I'd be all over their emergency need for a cap dump if I'm Yzerman haha. You can still make a trade, the players involved just can't play until next season.
-
Yeah, it's a tough one for sure. I mean, if he plays well, he'll no doubt get a raise based on his current salary anyway. I guess if he plays really well for a dozen games or so, they can begin to work out a short 'prove it' contract before that 17th game hits.
-
Got to imagine the team limits Walman to 16 games so he retains his RFA status and avoids becoming a Group 6 UFA.
-
Yeah, his contract is sensible. But no chance we should be trading top 10 picks for a 28-year-old dman. You make that deal when the dman is the missing piece. Not to try and stop the drowning.

Very aware of sign-and-trades. The main idea behind my message was poor asset management. Let alone the fact that 8X8 for Lindholm would have been straight up r-slurred. That's some NITF-level s***.

Love the division names, but holy hell Halifax could not support an NHL team

GOD BLESS MORITZ SEIDER Also shout out to my dog Seider

So you give up a 2022 1st, 2022 2nd, Wallinder, McIsaac for a pending UFA? If Stevie wanted him that bad I'm sure he'd just go for it July 1st. If you're trading assets for a dman as a rebuilding team, you go after a guy like Chychrun. Not Lindholm. A guy who still has plenty of team control left.

Keep the same conferences and divisions. Home and home versus opposite conference: 32 games 2 home & 2 away versus division rivals: 28 games Home and home vs other division in conference plus extra 3 home and 3 away games against 6 of the 8 other division teams. Division winner takes top 2 seeds in each conference, 3rd-8th decided by conference standings. Highest seed vs lowest seed the entire way through the playoff rounds. Go back to East versus West for the All-Star game. The winner takes home-ice advantage for Stanley Cup Finals. Make that game mean something and it might actually be entertaining.

Last season quickly made me realize too many games against the same few teams suuuccckkkkksss. 42 games vs 3-4 teams is too much I think. A home and home vs opposing conference is good. But the split between division and conference rivals needs to shrink some.

Yeah, this dude reeks of a bottom 6 center at best. We have those in abundance. I'd keep the 2nd rounder all day long. -

Small and Russian. Most GMs haven't figured out 5'10" guys can play high-level hockey too. -
This 100%. While I think Berggren will be the first of the three Swedes to make the roster, it definitely may not be to start the season. I think there is a good chance we have no Bert next season. Which will impact the team a lot. Having said that, the defense has to be improved and I think it will with some better stop gap players. Reliable minute eaters who can defend and safely pair up youth with. I think we'll see a setback as far as standings go, but we also won't see much of what we have for the last couple of weeks either. I also wouldn't be shocked to see guys like Hronek and Vrana moved in the next 1-2 years if Yzerman can sell high and get a haul for them. I think Larkin will be the one current 25+ player on this roster come contender time. He also won't be the go-to 1C by that time either, as Yzerman will find his Point by then. I just think what many see happening in 2-3 years is closer to 4-5 years away. Yzerman always stressed patience and how this will take time. He's not gonna pivot from that because we were within striking distance of the last playoff spot for half a season.
