Edmonton Oilers. Argument invalid
-
Truth. Look what happened to the last 3 teams he stopped playing for. Literally went from Stanley Cup finals appearances (and in the Ducks case, a cup) to not even making the playoffs right after. Hate to admit it, but he is definitely a top dman of his generation.
-
nah he was on LTIR the for the past 2 years. I'll be kind of rotted if the flyers are allowed to just keep him on LTIR. His contract would take him until he is 43, so if the league allows it, the flyers dodge a huge bullet ion terms of a cap hit. At least Savard's contract would have expired while he was still in his 30's. But no way Pronger would have played until 43.
-
Not at all. I've always hated Pronger as well, but nobody can deny the impact he had on every team he has played for. Sad to see a career end like that unless it were someone like Matt Cooke. Being in the East, good for us that he won;t be playing. Don't feel bad for Philly what so ever, however. I actually think the state they are in is kind of hilarious. I just wonder if he will be forced to retire, or if they will let Philly keep paying him to basically avoid the cap hit for 4 years much like Boston got to do with Savard.

gdt 10/15 GDT : Blue Jackets 1 at Red Wings 2

olympic season, however -
If Holland was as knee jerk as some Wings fans when it comes to the kids not being impact players right out of the gate, we'd be right down there with the Flyers. Imagine if he gave up on Kronwall and Ericsson not even a full NHL season into their careers. Shudder to think about it.

oh boy...

Weiss saved the day there
-
But.. but... he didn't scoar goalz!!!!! In all honesty, he is gonna be huge for us this season. 5 points in 6 games despite looking out of place in a couple games due to still adjusting. you can see that he is getting more and more comfortable now.
-
our second line is just gonna keep getting better! DANNY BOY!!!!!!!!
-
beautiful picking of the corner there

WOOOT!!
-
Tukrey is in the oven, beers are picked up, and friends are invited. today is gonna be a good day.
-
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess Byron Dafoe for that boston goalie. so stevie, bourque, shanny and dafoe is my final answer
-
Stevie, shanny, and bourque are my guesses for 3/4. still trying to figure out which bruins goalie that may be

This is the case yes, but there was a rule thrown in to the new CBA to punish GM's who signed players to these lifetime contracts with low salary years tacked on the end to lower the cap hit. it is possible to be stuck with a cap hit pushing 10 mil a year if franzen retired at the right time. not sure how much of that the Wings would be on the hook for if he were to be traded, but it would not be good. even if he remains a Wing for life and retires before his contract is up it will be an issue for the team. buying him out is the only way to avoid this. the only other way to avoid it is eventually having a 40+ year old franzen on the team. I wanna see him off this team as much as the next guy. but trading him would just lead to him causing an even bigger headache for wings fans down the road than he currently ever has.
-
You do realize that the wings would be absolutely nailed with a huge cap hit for a couple years when he retires before his contract is up, right? buying him out is the only option.
-
I wish people would see how awful of an idea trading Franzen would be. It would screw the team in the long run
-
Well, Franzen will only be off this team with a buy out. It will be cap suicide to trade him. Smith goes nowhere unless there was an offer just too good for Holland to pass up. By no means do I think Holland will be shopping either of them at any point. If anything, I'd say they will trade picks and prospects at the deadline for a legit top 4 dman, which would allow them to move Quincey. On our back end, he is the only one who just doesn't seem like a fit in the long term plans. At least I hope not. Kronwall, Ericsson, and Kindl have al at some point had us rolling our eyes with boneheaded plays. Now most of us couldn't picture our defence without them. It will be no different with #2. It'll just take time.Patience seems to be LGW's worst enemy Agreed. You're looking at 2 high end prospects and a high first rounder just to get their attention when it comes to OEL. Probably 2 first rounders for a team like the Wings. You'd be looking at the likes of Sproul, DeKeyser and a 1st just to get their attention, and it would take a lot more than that in the end. Their socks would have to be knocked off. This is a guy who is going to be a top dman in this league for a long, long time. Think along the lines of what it would take to land a young Lidstrom in a trade
-
He was fantastic. Couple rookie mistakes sure, but already an improvement over emdog. Emmertons skill set is that of a top 6 forward, but he is nowhere near good enough to be a top 6 forward in this league. Glendening just fits the mold so much better as a 4th line center, and it showed.

I don't think it is wise to trade Smith at this point unless it is a deal that cannot be passed up. Trading Franzen is an AWFUL idea, as it can screw the Wings down the road regardless when he retires. Buying out Franzen is the only option when it comes to getting rid of him. Pretty much no choice but to be stuck with Franzen for this season. His production matches his cap hit, so that isn't my complain about him. I just can't stand his lack of heart. I do see Holland making a move or two at the deadline now that we are very well stocked in the prospect pool compared to the past. I don't see us making any big splash, but a Stuart-type move is definitely a possibility in my opinion. When it comes down to it, it is way too soon to start making moves. This roster will start to gel, and the Wings will start rolling at some point. Injuries will no doubt hit at some point as well, giving the young guns a chance to show their worth. Not worried at all about our forwards going into the playoffs. I think the D will be fine as well if they keep building off of last year. But trading for a good shut down dman towards the end of the season couldn't hurt for the playoff run. People forget how awful Ericsson was there for a couple of seasons. Smith will be fine in time. Knee jerk reactions are the reason why Philly is in the state they are in. People hate to hear it, but this legit top 6 winger everyone wants so badly is gonna end up being someone already in the organization. It's just the way the league is today. If Smith were moved, we'd have a huge depth problem on D. A team needs depth to go all the way. Get rid of Smith, and one injury turns this team into a first round bust. Smith makes boneheaded plays, sure. But he was always a free wheeling offensive dman. Learning defense at the NHL level is gonna take him time. Bottom line, we need him. Only way he is traded if it is part of a package to land a legit dman. Not a forward.

Babcock/Tootoo stare-off anyone?
-
That made it all worth it
-
I thought he has been solid all season so far. Can't really fault him for last season as he missed just about all of it and didn't have the time to get back into game shape when he did play. Especially it being the playoffs when he did play. He's been effective for us when healthy more often than not, however.

Great game by Alfie tonight as well. Feeling like he is on the verge of breaking out
