League just trying to make up for lost lockout revenue. Sadly it will work, and they will keep doing it every year. At least the cap will go up again in time I guess.

Just threw up in my mouth at the thought of that POS ever wearing the Winged wheel

when have i ever said i expect a successful playoff run? enjoy the doom and gloom attitude. im sure glad i can just enjoy watching red wings hockey without getting stressed out about it. They could get swept in the first round, or not make the playoffs at all. whatever happens, im gonna watch the games and enjoy it.
-
agreed. a lot of it is growing pains. it is the biggest roster turnover we've had in years, especially on d. the kids will get better, thus making the team better. no doubt new blood will need to be added on the way, but those moves need to be made when the time is right. im enjoying watching the team grow together. it isnt gonna happen overnight, and once you come to terms with that, the games become much more enjoyable. keep stocking the system, develop prospects, give the kids a chance. when the time is right, add missing pieces via UFA and/or trade. it is a process, and it takes time. things will always get worse before they get better. but they will get better in time.

what happened to chicago after they won the cup? thats right, they havent won a series since, and made the playoffs the following year because dallas lost their last game only. yes they are great again now, but they had their year of barely squeaking in. it certainly is parity. if not for the cap, the wings would have continued to trade #1 picks for top players, and throw money at players in the summer to remain great. and it will take a few down years for the wings to get some fresh blood in the system now. it's just the way the league is now. the pens and bruins will drop off in time as well. the pens will take a long time to do so because their core is very young. ours isnt. if the wings threw big mioney at some ufa's over the past couple years, sure they would have remained really good for a couple more years. but the drop off would come sooner or later regardless.

It is the salary cap era. The days of one team being a cup contender each and every year is over. It will never happen. People just need to accept the fact that every team will have seasons like the Wings are having now. And people should also be thankful and realize it could be a hell of a lot worse. In the mean time i'm just gonna keep enjoying watching the Wings. I agree to an extent. but at the same time if it is all system, they wouldnt barely make the playoffs to begin with. if this style were so sucessful, teams who use it would do better during the season as well. and getting hot still does have a lot to do with it. there are also teams who have played this style and failed. a lot of things have to go right for it to work. People just need to accept the fact that no one team in this league will be a cintender each and every season.

Welcome to parity

this is true. was just going by what ive seen a couple others in the forums post.
-
I know they arent the same team as these other underdogs. that isnt what im saying at all. but any team can get hot. not saying it will happen, and im not saying i like detroits chances at a deep playoff run. getting helm and bert back alone woule cut down on mistakes. once again, not saying they will be back, but i hold out hope. because im a fan. thats what i do.
-
sadly tatar cant be called up until the season ends, or for an emergency. all their call ups for the season have been used. hoping he gets to play in the playoffs though
-
exactly. it's growing pains. the young players will get better with more experience, and the mistakes will go down. fill holes along the roster along the way and the team will be competitive.
-
amen lol. a lot of people seem like they would be a lot less stressed out if they gave up watching. sure i do my share of cursing and swearing when they get scored on or lose, but i also realize its a part of the game. i watch it to enjoy it, not get stressed over it. i do not stress over which i cannot control.
-
this year he kept the first rounder and people are still complaining lol. im glad he kept it. with how deep the draft is we will probably get someone pretty good. im a very patient person, so this transition doesnt bother me like it does others. i do really enjoy how much more meaningful these regular season games are. where did i mention records?
-
a lot of them did during the season. they stepped it up to end the season to barely squeeze in. If detroit plays every game they did tonight, combined with getting someone to the front of the net, they'll have a shot at winning games.

i know we have prospects we can afford to trade. im saying renting clowe would have been a useless move. id love to see clowe with the wings. i see the guy every summer. he is a right on feller. but the time to go after him is july. to trade for him at the deadline and risk him walking away at the end of the season would have been absurd. just because we have prospects we can afford to trade, doesnt mean they should be pissed away on a rental on a transition year. if they are gonna be traded, it should be for someone who will stick around for a few seasons and help the team beyond this one.
-
We aren't renting flip. but i do think he should have been traded. but what does that have to do with clowe?
-
trading for clowe would have been making a move for the sake of making a move. the team isnt in a position to rent players for a playoff run.
-
fingers crossed! lol. i miss the hell out of both of them
-
ok then. how is it worth the risk to give up assets for someone who may or may not stick around, in a year when the team isnt built to make a run for the cup? ryan clowe would have been a nice addition sure. but if the wings want him, july is the time to make an offer.

Datsyuk turns the puck over because he doesnt have the support he used to and the opositions best players zero in on him night in and night out. Gus is creating more because he is on a different line, where he doesnt have to play against the Blues best. This is not like 2009 when we were so deep up front that we could spread the talent around to force other teams into making decisions when it comes to matching line ups. when we get bert and helm back, and can split up dats and hank, and have a big body playing with each of them to open up space, more scoring chances will be created. along with helm wrecking havoc on the 3rd line. and a lot of people seem to give teams the wings play no credit what so ever for playing well. its always "wings are playing like s***". when it comes to how the wings play, thyeir opponents have a LOT to do with that.
-
What would be the point of trading for him? So he could just sign with a different team over the summer?

Sunday is gonna be huge. Probably the biggest of the season, and what I think will show what kind of team the Wings really are this season. I'm going home to Toronto tomorrow morning for a week. Was planning on going to the game Sunday but my passport didn't make it on time
