    Intent to blow whistle

The way I see it, what is the point of even having a whistle if it's not the blowing of the whistle that kills the play, but rather the intent to blow it? If the ref wants to call a play dead, then fine. But the play should not officially be dead until the whistle does blow, not the second or two it takes him to put the damn thing in his mouth. This rule really needs to be addressed, because it is the most stupid thing I have seen in any sport, when a goal is disallowed because the ref was about to blow the whistle. The clock doesn't stop until the whistle blows, so the play should not either!

Are Any of These Teams for Real?

I figured for the past couple years that the Kings were close to becoming a play off tem again. Of the 3, I'd say LA first, then the Coyotes maybe. I think the Avs will fizzle out.

Franzen to try & rush back for Olympics

If he is cleared to play in time for the games, then that's great. It would give him plenty of time playing competitive hockey again to prepare for the playoffs. That has been my biggest concern. I knew he'd be back for the post season, but would he be in game shape by then. Even if the Wings are a lower seed come playoff time, having the Mule back in form for round one would set the Wings up to be upsettin' some teams.

    First Game Impressions

I only got to catch the first period because I had to work. But if that period was a sign of what they will be like this season, then I'm all for it. They looked more inspired than almost any game I've seen them play last year.

    Anyone still depressed

I've put it behind me, I'm just so pumped the season is near. I think the Wings have just as good of a shot at getting right back into the think of things come next summer. Can't wait!

    Marleau loses Sharks captaincy

I always used to be one of the ones who would make fun of joe for being a playoff no show. Sure it may still be true, but I don't think I can make fun of him anymore. I met him a couple weeks ago when he and a few of his teammates were in St. John's, Newfoundland for a golf tournament. I met them down on George Street during the opening night of the George Street Festival. Him and everyone he was with ended up renting out one of the bars so they could be left alone by all the people and just enjoy the night. But after the night was almost over, one of my former coworkers introduced me to the bunch. It was really awesome, and I must say, Joe is one of the friendliest people you could ever meet. It was funny to, because I was on the deck of the bar right across the street from them at first, and I noticed Ehrhoff point in my direction then Joe and Clowe both looked over as well. They seemed to be looking at me, so I was weirded out. When I met them, they told me they noticed me with my red hair from accross the street. Of course I mentioned to them that my hair is red for the Red Wings. Anyway, I think he would definitely make a good captain in San Jose, and as long as the Sharks don't cross paths with the Wings in the post season I wish them all the luck in the world. I mean hey, at least they have a Newfie on the team as well Here is a pic anyway, it's not very good because it was taken with my cellphone and it has no zoom or anything. It is Thornton, Ehrhoff, and Clowe at the right side up on the balcony, right at the Molson Canadian banner. It's easy to pic out Joe, but not so much the other two. I also know for sure that Adam Pardy as well as Daniel and Michael Ryder were there as well, but I've met those 3 numerous times already. Also, on the bottom left you can see a dude wearing a Wings jersey. Hell yeah!!!
  21. During the season it probably wouldn't matter too much anyway. During the playoffs I'd say Babs will play them together on home ice, and seperate on the road when their opponents have the last change, just to increase the ice time of having Pav and Hank out there while the opponents play their top 2 lines.

    Chicago Screws Up, merged

Their GM screwed up sending their RFA's qualifying offers. It is possible that Versteeg and Barker could become UFA's instead because of this.

    Team Canada Camp Roster

I really think Cleary will make the team. He can play almost any role, and Yzerman has already said that there will be surprises on the roster and that he wants to build a team that can also be responsible defensively. Cleary fits the billing. He'll be a 4th liner, and possibly see some PP time to be an in front of the net presence. Babcock will probably have a lot of say in him making the team as well. GO CLEARY!!! I also would not be surprised to see Lucic make the team. He can bring things to the table that pretty well nobody else invited can, and would be a great fit on a 4th line. Personally I think a 4th line of Lucic-J.Staal-Cleary would be a great engery line with scoring touch as well.

Wings will be a better team in 09/10

Pavel Datsyuk $6,700,000 Henrik Zetterberg $6,083,333 Johan Franzen $3,954,545 Valtteri Filppula $3,000,000 Daniel Cleary $2,800,000 Tomas Holmstrom $2,250,000 Jiri Hudler $1,750,000 Kris Draper $1,583,333 Ville Leino $950,000 Kirk Maltby $883,333 UFA $750,000 Darren Helm $599,444 DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom $7,450,000 Brian Rafalaski $6,000,000 Brad Stuart $3,750,000 Niklas Kronwall $3,000,000 Andreas Lilja $1,250,000 Jonathan Ericsson $900,000 Brett Lebda $650,000 GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood $1,416,666 Jimmy Howard $716,666 CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (including bonuses) ROSTER SIZE 21 SALARY CAP $56,800,000 PAYROLL $56,437,320 BONUS MONEY (ESTIMATED) (0% of cap) $0 CAP ROOM $362,680 CAP ROOM PER OPEN SPOT $181,340 Holmstrom-Datsyuk-Zetterberg Franzen-Filppula-Hudler Cleary-Helm-Leino Maltby-Draper-UFA Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Pain Train- Ericsson Lebda OR Meech Osgood Howard If Hudler goes elsewhere, I'd say move Cleary to the 2nd line and sign a defensively responsible 3rd liner, and a cup hungry wrecking machine for the 4th line. That could probably be had trading Meech or Lebda after training camp, unless there is someone out there now. Only reason I'd like to see Hudler on the 2nd line over Cleary is because I thought or downfall in Game 7 of the finals was pressure being put on out 3rd line, so having Cleary there with Helm would probably prevent things like that. Anyway, just my two cents. Either way, I think the time will be fine this season. Many people are over reacting big time. They will have a strong season. Our defense will make a good come back I think, especially with a rookie backup in net some nights. They won't score as many goals, but a lot of the lost goals will come elsewhere with increased roles in players like Filppula, Leino, Helm, and Ericsson. Having Hank and Pasha back together regularly will help a lot as well. There are gonna be some youngsters on this roster out to prove themselves, and there is still so much veteran leadership on this team for them to look up to. Holland will no doubt use the trade deadline to acquire some depth, even if that means getting another goalie if Howard doesn't pan out to well. As long as this team goes back to dominating defense, which we all know they can do, there is no reason why they can't win the central, and there is no reason why they can't compete for the top spot in the West. Ozzie I'm sure will have a rebound season as well. Last year Hudler seemed to finally break out. Now with Hossa gone, I think Filppula is going to have his coming out party. On paper, they will not be a better team than this season past. But there are so many factors that can make them play as a better team than last season (better team defense, getting the hunger back, etc.). That's what it is gonna come down to.

    Wings to trade one defenseman

Even Lids would look terrible if he played through what Rafalski has in the play offs.
