What context am I supposed to use here. When?
-
99% of conversation here already is about this team going forward. PS: Wright or Bedard are just as unlikely as an offer sheet. Just sayin'.
-
Hey now, you're not allowed to talk about things that are not likely. After all, what's the point?
-
It's a dying discussion form, and now we're only allowed to talk about things that are likely to happen? Tough crowd. It's something to chat about. During the offseason. On a dying forum. If you don't like the conversation, change the thread.
-
For the umpteenth time, I know an offer sheet will not happen. It's a 'what if' scenario on a discussion board.
-
Where did I say Yzerman was done? I'm simply stating if we added a high end center such as Pettersson, this team would see a drastic improvement, when combined with already made changes. Bert is the only guy I can picture being traded this season. MAYBE Fabbri, but I'd imagine that would be more of a deadline deal. It's simply too soon to shop Vrana unless Yzerman gets an offer he can't refuse. Maybe see how he does with this team in a full season before trading him, yeah? Losing Bert wouldn't move the needle nearly as much as adding Pettersson would. Trading Bert would also likely bring a young, NHL ready player back. Similar to the Mantha trade. And once again, I already stated I do not think nor expect an offer sheet to happen. It's a discussion of a 'what if' scenario. I know what Yzerman said and I know he will follow through with that. Buffalo and Arizona are in the running for a top 3 pick by design. Yzerman knows he has to build via the draft. But he also knows he doesn't need top 3 picks to do it.

You did me a confuse

How am I behind the program? I straight up agree we are not a bottom 5 team. Where the hell did I say otherwise? I implied we wouldn't be a basement team by saying we won't suck enough for guys like Wright. I said adding Pettersson would get us out of the bottom TEN, not five.
-
It's a shame he improved the team then, because we won't finish bottom 3. The odds of jumping into the top 2 won't be pretty either.
-
We still won't suck enough to have any sort of realistic shot at Wright, let alone Bedard. I'd take the odds on an offer sheet all day long myself. The bigger risk would be pissing off some people that could have consequences down the road. But meh.
-
Adding Pettersson would drag the Wings out of the bottom 10. There would be no shot at Wright or Bedard. For the record, I don't think an offer sheet happens. But I sure as hell wouldn't hate it.
-
And that is exactly what it is. A dream.
-
That combine with his style of play and age. He will likely be on the decline when the Wings contend again.
-
The problem with Bert is if Yzerman can't come to terms with him on a longer deal, he'll go to arbitration again and become a UFA next year and be gone for nothing. This is why I have little doubt he gets moved sooner rather than later.
-
I'm hoping we pry a first rounder from LA or Vancouver in a deal involving Bert. Either team can very likely finish bottom 10.
-
Set the rebuild back years that waive did
-
Didn't cost them anything. Gotta figure they have a better shot at getting him to play when the trade is already done.
-
Canes gonna lock up DeAngelo
-
As a Canadian, if any idiots cry about the WHA, throw the lockout lost season, the lockout shortened season, the COVID shortened seasons right back at them. Ovie lost about 100 goals on that alone (based on career scoring rate).
-
or he'll just get injured again
-
5 years, 9.5 AVV for Ovie
-
Though I'd rather see Bert dealt to a team like LA for a first. A team that clearly wants to win now, but is also capable of a bottom 10 finish.
-
I'd still take a #4 pick + Zadina over Werenski. I just feel this is a move you make when you're a really good team with a hole in the top 4. Not when your roster is littered with them.
-
With our D pipeline, I wouldn't really say we're screwed. I guess I feel we're still to center depth-starved for such a trade to make sense right now. If it was Bert going the other way, I'd see it differently, as it's easy to see Bert as a guy who is probably a little too old for his style of play to fit in the rebuild timeline. I'd like to see what Zadina amounts to. If he can break out a little bit on offense, he will have more value than many of our current wingers. I also think 2023 is too soon to be trading first round picks. That is something that should only happen when flirting with cup contention.
-
Yeah, then we win the lottery in 2023 and Columbus gets Bedard. Doh! I guess I just don't see the point of trading so much for a guy while we still suck, when we can get him for free in 2 years when we're getting good.
