Players who might be available due to expansion draft
marcaractac replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
All my followers are bots. I'm on Twitter for the memes and keeping up with interests. I don't tweet. I leave the desire to be an online influencer to the pros like @nyqvististhefuture -
Players who might be available due to expansion draft

You realize that if Boston, Tampa, NY, PIT, and WSH all finish ahead of Florida, that the Panthers still make it, right?Hell NYR and Habs can make it and Florida can STILL be in. As for Twitter, the difference is I use it to enjoy memes and follow hockey s*** and engage with Red Wings fans. You angrily tweet into the empty abyss like some sort of raging, basement dwelling man-child. -

To say Florida has a decent chance at not making the playoffs next year is laughable at best. The Panthers are having a good season because they have a fantastic roster. Will this season produce anomalies? Absolutely. But the cream always rises to the top. Go back to ranting to your 3 Twitter followers. -

Yeah, a division with 3 powerhouse teams certainly can't be the top of the league. Not to mention containing a team, while underperforming now, just made the Stanley Cup Finals last year. The team expected to be last in Chicago playing way above expectations. Yup, garbage division. -

How are these big stars working out for the Oilers? You also realize there is a draft lottery, right? Yzerman isn't gonna tank in hopes to have a small, and I do mean small chance at getting a Wright or Bedard calibre player. He's gonna make the best choice he can with the pick he does get, which is the right move. No GM can choose to pick first. Nor do they choose to pick 10th. 31 other teams plus a lottery have a say in that. Did you forget last year already? Historically bad season. Gets 4th pick. If discussing hockey on a hockey forum is pointless, why are you here? -

They're certainly better than you make them out to be. The way you analyze who the Wings have to play and who they can and cannot beat makes me wonder why they bother to play the games at all. -

All that is being said here is that you're just as likely to get an impact player at #10 than you are to get a McDavid level prospect at #1, and that more often than not, a player drafted 5-10 ends up being better than the hyped #1. -

Sure Laine can score 40 again. But not with the support he currently has (or lack thereof). If you have paid attention this season, you'd see Detroit has played the top teams in the division very well. They are like .500 against Carolina. Beat Tampa a couple times after having not done so in years. So no, these teams aren't at the top from "beating up on Detroit". If anything, they'd have even BETTER records if they didn't lose games to a team like Detroit. You're also ignoring the fact that the team went on a 8 game losing streak early in the season when a bunch of guys were out with Covid. Other teams had games postponed when that happened. Still not bottom 5. Once again, I'm not saying they absolutely will not finish bottom 5 next year. I just think it's more likely that they improve upon this season than regress. -

This. It's like what, one out of every 10-12 years you get that #1 pick that legit is heads above everyone else? The only perk of winning the lottery is choice. -

Teams fall off the face of the earth all the time. Bernier himself said he loves it in Detroit. Not far fetched to think he might stick around. You seem to have a lot of faith in Laine carrying Columbus. Yes. Detroit plays more good teams next season. They also play more bad teams. It balances out. We're in a division where the top 3 teams are top 5 in the entire league. Yet here we are, not in the bottom 5. -

Dude you keep talking about teams below us passing us next year. What about teams ahead of us that'll fall? That is literally just as likely. So Buffalo will likely re-sign Ulmark, but Bernie is all but gone? Laine scored 40 goals once, while on a stacked Jets roster at the time. Not once did I say Detroit will be good next season. I simply see no reason they won't continue to show improvement. -

This is especially true when you look at the depth of the 2022 draft. The top 3 alone are projected to be better than the #1 most years. Anyone picking in the top 10 that draft should get an important player. Seider himself wasn't taken until #6 and was projected to be picked much later than that. The competitive hockey the team currently plays most nights and learning to play the right way is more important to long term success than running the tank every year. -

We're not in the bottom 5 now, and will likely improve even more next year. Why will be be a bottom team next year, because you say they will? Wings will be younger and better next season. They are a hard working and well coached team. They have good goaltending. Ottawa does not. Buffalo may not. Columbus is a disaster. They have a one-dimensional high scoring winger who isn't scoring much and two really good dmen. Yeah... so much better than Detroit. Even if one of these teams pass Detroit next season, there is still Seattle. Good chance they are more of a traditional expansion team. Bottom 5 is unlikely this year, even more unlikely next year, and very unlikely in 2023 unless there is massive regression. If you're expecting top 3 picks, you might wanna temper expectations. -

We're not gonna be in the running for Wright or Bedard. I get wanting to be, but we won't. Next year's draft is stacked in general. A top 10 pick next year will net a great player. Successful teams also find steals with late first and second round picks. We have to hit on a couple of those if we're gonna become perennial contenders. We might not get McDavids or Crosbys. But that also means we wont be spending 10+ million on multiple players and can afford to maintain depth. Look what happened to Chicago once Toews and Kane started their big deals. They won cups with the help of insane depth, and now miss the playoffs every year despite still having their 'core'. Give me guys like Necas or O'Reilly. That leads to the ability to maintain depth and be in it every year. Look at Carolina, for example. -
While true, I think he more than anyone will need some time to adjust to the NA ice. His one IIHF tournament was in the Czech Republic (big ice). He missed opportunities to play on the smaller ice in these tournaments due to injuries. Guys like Raymond at least have SOME experience with smaller ice at the junior level. Curious to see if any of these guys play in the World Championships this spiring, as they are being held in Alberta.

I think Raymond has the best shot to wow in the preseason and make the opening roster, depending on his gym results over the summer. Still kind of a big 'if' though. If not, one more year in the SHL or even a year in the AHL would do him wonders. Berggren I think will see time in the AHL first to acclimate. I don't think he has anything left to prove in Sweden. McIsaac needs a healthy full season in the AHL at minimum. Johansson is another who'd straight up have to win a job in camp, though I think that is even less likely than with Raymond. Odds are he'll still need some time to round out his game and not become another Cholowski.

Red Wings Brass Believes This Will Be An Extended Rebuild
marcaractac replied to Gniwder's topic in General
I think that every player is different and there is no one set of rules to define all player development. An assessment of one player being premature does not mean an assessment of another has to be. That's the hole in your logic. We have different views, clearly. And while I simply try to agree to disagree and move on, you have to take your little "poor line of argument' jabs. Fine, have your last word. You clearly need it more than I do. By the logic you present, if I want to call your assessment of Zadina premature, I have to call out every single opinion you have of every single one of our prospects premature. The topic of conversation was Zadina. That's it. You brought in Seider as an attempt to create a hole in logic where there was none. If you wanna talk hockey, I'm game. But if you wanna continue this petty bulls***, kindly f*** off. -
Berggren's team is leading in game 7 to move on to face Seider.

There is conceding, then there is the ol agree to disagree. The latter is where I fall. I wanna talk about hockey s***, not argue over the context of spot picked quotes. I've always said I mostly agreed with the Seider assessment and didn't see any point in calling it premature. Once again, Seider has nothing to do with Zadina. I agree with Zadina as a 'tier 2' player, which I already told you. Others may disagree, but that's them. What I disagree with is that tier being generalized as tradable. In my eyes, tradable and non-tradable players can be of the same quality. Age, in my opinion, is the biggest factor for trading these types of players at this time. Say we get a top 5 pick the next two drafts. Who do you take, and why? -

Tampa also won a cup without Stamkos. But their depth is just insane. I agree that we need 2-3 cornerstone pieces to be perennial contenders. But we don't need to trade every good player we currently have to get there either. AA made sense. Mantha made sense. Bert in the next year or two may make sense. Larkin doesn't only because he is our only capable center and we'd be worst than last season without him. Zadina doesn't make sense because of his age and growth. The Mantha trade worked because his production was replaced as well as getting a couple extra stabs in the draft. We potentially have 2 said pieces in Seider and Raymond already. We hit with the top pick in one or both of the next two drafts and all is well. -

There is a difference between a misquote and a misrepresentation. You did that latter. You're claiming misquote because it fits your narrative. But Jesus Christ can we get back to talking about players instead of definitions? We're both being ridiculous. -

Yes, I do understand what a strawman is. You misrepresent what I present because it's what you find easiest to "defeat" me on. I've said countless time I mostly, key word MOSTLY agree with your assessment of Seider. I saw no reason to dive into it when the conversation was about Zadina. So must I do research into all of your opinions of every player and prospect and state my opinions on each one if I decide I want to engage you on one specifically? -

Yes, awarding Seider multiple Norris trophies is premature. Should I have to state something so obvious? No scapegoating. I agree Seider will be a Pronger-like dman. It's too soon to send him to the Hall and award him his mutiple Norris trophies. Also, did not contradict myself. You spot picked two lines to make it appear as if I did. Strawman. -

When did I say Zadina will be an elite level player? But no, you don't put a spin on things ever. Literally putting words in my mouth at this point. Who is strawmaning now? Here is the context I'm looking through, seeing how you need every detail spelled out for you. I see a prospect in Seider who has shown no signs struggled development since being drafted, therefore giving me no reason to think he cannot reach his ceiling. A dman in the mold of Pronger. Does that mean I think he'll be as dominant as Pronger? Nope! Does that mean I think he is a lock to be a HoF'er? Nope! It simply means that I agree that he can be a Pronger-like dman in the NHL. Zadina on the other hand has shown struggles during his development. He has warranted criticism since being drafted. The aspect I find to be premature is thinking he'll be nothing more than a complementary player that should be traded the second he pumps up his value. A player can be a core part of a team without being 'elite'. A scenario can be presented under more than one context. I like how you also single out the line "Maybe it is premature to say Seider will be the next Pronger". You literally spot picked two lines out of context that contradict each other, while ignoring the text that provides any meaning. Strawman at its finest. Pot, meet ketttle. -
I'd say he is more Toews than Larkin. They have similarities for sure. He is a capable playmaker and has a high hockey IQ.
