I just don't think he can score enough at the NHL level right now to justify being that kind of player. He needs to evolve. Even by adjusting his game, the scoring touch can still find its way down the road. But if he wants a lengthy NHL career? He got to change things up. If he is counting on scoring to keep him in the league, he'll be in the KHL in no time.

Outside of the top 1 or 2 players in each draft, there is rarely any agreement on players ranked 2/3-6/7. That just goes to show there are no standouts, and there is often nobody in that range clearly a tier above the rest. Therefore, drafting positional need anywhere in that range is the smart move. Ask the Oilers how BPA has worked out for them. That's how you draft Yakupov. You can still argue Seguin vs Hall to this day, but I'd have taken Seguin back then and I still would now. Sure, you always draft the McDavid's. But if they took a dman once or twice with some of these picks, they'd already be in the playoffs every year by now.

Plenty of players projected to be scorers have changed their game to become role players and carved out very nice, long careers for themselves. Hopefully he can find that footing in Detroit before being let go for nothing.

Yeah it seems every draft centers/dmen always rise and some wingers fall. Like Zadina. As for LAfreniere, I don't think he'll be an elite twi-way winger, just a hgigh scoring winger who does still backcheck. Back checking will never be the strongest part of his game, but he does do it, which is why i'll never classify him as a one dimensional winger. Basically, he'll be a winger who won't count on a center to do all the work for him, as he is very capable without the puck. But alas, he will be a Rag, despite that they are indeed starved for elite centers. But yeah, we will continue to see a lot more stuff like Kotkaniemi's and Hayton's move up in favour of higher ranked wingers. My prediction is Lafreniere will be the only winger drafted in the top 5.

I have little doubt LA takes Byfield. Kopitar is 32, after all. I think Stutzle will be NHL ready quicker than Rossi, but I feel Rossi has more potential based on his all around game. But hey, that's just my opinion.

As for Svech, I think he is at a stage in his career where he really needs to focus on being a great role player. I think with some adjustments to his game he can become a Dan Cleary type of player. If he is counting only on his scoring to stay in the lineup, he won't make it.

ROR is a ******* beast, and anyone who thinks otherwise is blind. Lol Sabres.... While I was fully aboard the Lafreniere train, it's because I see him as in a teir above the rest. In that case, sure, take the winger. As long as he is more than "guy who puts up points" which I feel Laffy is. Sure the kid won't win any Selke trophies, but he does backcheck and play his ass off. He does come up clutch, he isn't afraid to battle for the puck, and he isn't afraid to play physical. But he is off the table, and Drysdale and Rossi I feel are the best options at #4. Though I kind of expect the Sens to take one of them at #3 tbh. Seeing the impact Makar and Q.Hughes are currently having in the playoffs as kids sure makes Drysdale's stock rise. If we draft someone like Raymond I'll be quite disappointed.

This. I get so tired of all this BPA talk when nobody who can even agree who it is in the top 10 outside of Lafreniere and maybe Byfield. IMO, if there is a group of 3-4 players that are ranked equivalently among scouts, take the damn center or dman. Assuming Lafreniere, Byfield, Stützle go 1-2-3, I'm team Drysdale or Rossi.

Only a full NMC is forced protection. Anything less then that does not have to be protected. That's how it was with the Vegas draft. Nielsen had a full NMC at that time. Now he has a modified no trade clause only. Either include a list of seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender OR eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender Players with a "No Movement" clause must be protected if the player does not waive the clause First and second-year professional players and unsigned draft picks are not eligible for the expansion draft and won't need to be protected All other players are eligible for the Expansion Draft Nielsen is on a modified NTC where he has to submit a list of ten teams he's not willing to play for. Therefore he falls under "All other players are eligible for the Expansion Draft."

If there truly are hockey gods, the Jets will get #1. I get physically ill at the thought of it going to Edmonton, Pittsburgh, or Toronto.

I personally think Drysdale would be a much better pairing for Seider. I think Seider is the type of dman you want to pair with someone who is high scoring. It would allow a kid like Drysdale to take more risks. Then having guys likme Drysdale and Hronek to quarter back each pp unit. That's what makes me randy.

This. We have two sure dmen in Hronek and Seider. Lidstrom will likely be a third pairing dman, which is fine. But we still need a top pairing dman and a second pairing dman. It's still very much our weakest position.

I feel it's Laffy, Byfield/Drysdale. I do think Byfield has the highest bust potential, which is what worries me about him. A very high ceiling, but I am concerned about his floor. Laffy and Drysdale I feel will be among the best at their positions in due time. Stutzle I feel is the safest center in the draft. I just don't think he'll be a better center than Drysdale will be a dman. Not to mention being stacked on the blueline in a few years opens up many trade options for help up front... or in goal.

Just imagine if we draft Drysdale and suddenly have a huge logjam of really good dmen in the next couple years. Yzerman would be big time trading from a position of strength.

I mean, any Atlantic province with a half sensible arena should have been looked at. If the league paid attention, they'd realize they can have fans for games on the east coast based on their timeline. It wouldn't be enough to move the needle for league income, as they'd have to keep ticket prices in check to fill the house every game. But it would come off a hell of a lot better on TV.
