Mantha might be done for the year - what now
marcaractac replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I bet it would work out such that the team will still have won more games with Mantha in the lineup. That's speculative on my part, of course, based on the not terrible start to the season. Hopefully he has all his s*** luck injuries out of his system by the time he comes back. -

Based on this season: Fabbri as a Red Wing: 0.68 ppg Fabbri total: 0.56 ppg Zadina as a Red Wing: 0.58 ppg Based on the last 10 games: Fabbri: 0.6 ppg Zadina: 0.6 ppg Fabbri has been the better offensive player this season so far. In the last 10 games, they are pretty well dead even. Zadina continues to improve. Fabbri is more experienced, and a really good player. You are both right, depending on how you approach the stats. You guys are clearly not gonna change each others minds. Maybe wait until they both have a larger sample size under their belt, and then return to the argument, in oh I don't know, the Fabbri vs Zadina thread? So that Mantha kid... the point of this thread. It sucks he will still be out a while. But in the end, it favours Yzerman in contract negotiations. -
He's on track for 70 points, assuming he doesn't slow down at the end of the season like he did last year.

Pierre is a creep. I wonder what crop of 10 year old players he is stalking now in preparation for being "knowledgeable" for the draft in several years. -

Pierre clearly hasn't been watching -
I mean, they don't have to be flaunted as a line. Just having 3 french Canadians of that calibre will be enough to rot Montreal's s***, and I'm all here for it. He's certainly the closest thing since. If we win the lottery, I hope he does hit those highs.

I just want us to flaunt Mantha-Veleno-Lafreniere every time we play the Habs. And while their fans envy our all french line, Zadina will fill their net with pucks.

And with the nature of the game with salary caps and what not, massive overpayments in trades never happen like they used to. When big names DO get moved these days, it's always for less than anyone anticipates. The Sens are damn lucky for the Sharks misfortunes this year. At the time of the Karlsson trade, that first round pick was never expected to be a potential lottery pick.

Fabbri and Zadina have both been positives in a terrible season. My two cents. -
Trade deadline bait available this year?

Comrie must be the most argued about AHL goalie of all time -
Guys like McDavid are never a risk of becoming a Nino Neidereitter. They are just that good that it is a foregone conclusion they'll be top players in the league. Lafreniere, while not at that McDavid level, is in the same conversation. This is not the Nolan Patrick draft, after all. Most years everything you're saying is true. But this coming draft is one of those rare exceptions. Considering how much more important the draft is now compared to the Lindros days, it's also a lot less likely goes overboard to pry the first overall pick, as you'd cripple the farm to do so. Back then? Just use UFA and trade draft picks to make up the difference. Mathews and Laine was also another exception. Both guys spent their draft years playing against men so it was easier to see what they were. Svech was a nice consolation prize in his draft year, but the Sabres got a generational talent on the blueline. There was no doubt about that before the draft or since.

Oh yeah, I definitely think that trade is definitely not a one-for-one. Even then, it's just one example of the type of trade for AA that does make sense, based on this season's performance. If AA were to go into the summer willing to sign a short, cap-friendly prove it deal, I'd be all for it. I just don't think that is his MO at all. It's definitely not what his agent is known for. -

Let's see if you think the same thing when he has his Mitch Marner holdout this summer -

marcaractac replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Absolutely. I've always said that trading AA makes far more sense during the summer than it does at the deadline. I've also always thought Edmonton would be a good trade partner. His speed and skill on McDavid's wing is something they could use. Perhaps a deal involving AA and Puljujarvi. Fresh start for two players. Could be the type of trade where both teams win. -

I just think we're done seeing AA in Detroit beyond this season. It feels like the writing was on the wall for him for a while now. -

He will blame his bad year on how he was used and drag his feet in negotiations. He's done it before and his agent is famous for his players holding out. Yzerman will handle it like he did with Drouin. Too bad he isn't french. -

Truth. Reminds me of Helm in his early years. -

It's good to see Larkin's scoring come back. -
I'm game for whatever position brings out the best in these kids down the road. I just hope Veleno's WJC performance eventually translates to the NHL. That would be huge. Certainly it's no guarantee, but luckily it isn't impossible either.

I guess this makes Ericsson even less appealing than you initially thought. Daley or Green may be fine depth additions to a contender, where they can play sheltered minutes and get used mainly on the pp. Or just be veteran 7th dmen to fill in during injuries down the stretch *cough*toronto*cough*. -

Dude played 8 games the season the Wings won the cup. He was nothing more than a black ace that playoff run. He is not a cup winner. His name is not even on it.
