I think Askarov is too risky of a pick with guys like Stutzle, Raymond, Byfield still on the board after the first pick.
-
I think Svech has reached a point in his career where he should turn his focus on becoming a great role player if he wants a long NHL career.

Maybe? I dunno, he just doesn;t seem to have been a head coach in the league as long as many other who keep getting rehired have. Like, I don't get what anyone sees in DeBoer. Yet he keeps getting hired, and subsequently fired. -

This case it's been Howard. I would not hate changing to Gallant. At all. But I'm also fine with Blash. Just staying away from the old boys club is all I hope for. -

Firing him for the sake of making a change would be stupid, yes. If Yzerman feels there is a better option available, then he should pursue that. Firing Blash because of the last couple blowouts solves nothing. -

The team has no confidence in front of Howard. When Bernier plays, the games are kept close for the most part. The team can count on him to make a save every now and again when they f*** up. If something has to give, it's the tandem of Howard and Pickard. -

Once again, you're not a doctor. You don't know s*** and are making assumptions. -
If Veleno and Ras can become legit 2nd and 3rd line centers, I'll be pumped. I do not care which of the two becomes a 2nd line center, I just hope either can achieve that level of success. Ras is playing better right now, but he is also a year further into his development, and in his second full season playing pro hockey. Hopefully Veleno continues to improve in the AHL level, because the Wings need both of these guys to pan out, regardless of which of the two turns out to be better.

*barf* can you imagine? Same with that Yashin/Yzerman stuff. We could literally be on a longer-than-the-Leafs cup drought right now if that one occurred.

This. Dats and Hank had a few years under their belt before they got thrust into leading roles. Larkin was thrust into it much earlier, with very little help. Dats was almost traded at one point. Let's not pretend he was an A;;-star calibre player from the get go. He was a playoff bust for a while.

Are you a doctor? Have you seen his medical records? How do you even know this? Oh right, you don't. The guy is as healthy as anyone. Malkin f***ed his knee once too. Trade him for a 2nd round pick, I suppose. Damaged goods. -
Holland has been awful at drafting dmen for a long time. I consider Hronek to be absolute luck on his part. First dman to really pan out since ******* Kronwall.
-
In the end, I doubt Yzerman will have the loyalty to Howard that Holland did. Yzerman will for sure seek an improvement to compliment Bernier next season.
-
If Yzerman strikes out on a goalie this summer, and Bernier continues to play next season like he has lately, then I'd like to see him extended at some point during next season. I think it would be a mistake to wait until free agency in 2021 to deal with it, because at that point he'd likely test the market. Then we'd have nothing and have to hope to lure someone competent July 1st. Risky business. My hope is that Bernier is just hitting his prime years, which is not unusual for a goalie at 30. He's always had the tools.
-
Yeah, if I had to choose between a Bernier extension on July 1 or a massive Holtby contract on July 1, I choose the former. That's one very specific scenario and not at all related to anything else. But please, keep on picking and choosing certain posts that fit your argument.

Maybe he'll end up on waivers at some point.
-
No competent GM is gonna go into an offseason with no goalies signed in hopes he can find not only one, but TWO goalies that would be an improvement. If a goalie is signed this summer, great! No need to extend Bernier. As far as we know, only trash may be available in 2021.
-
Anyone is replaceable. You do have to have someone to replace them with.
-
Oh I agree, I just think it would be insane to use the first overall pick on a goalie is all. Forward with the first pick, then get some goalies and dmen.
