They still have nothing down the middle. And no assets to make big trades. Trading Ulmark allows them to fill 10 roster spots for little more than the league minimum. Unless Bergeron and Krejci give it another year, it's pretty bleak.
-
they also have over 4 mil in cap penalties for Bergeron and Krejci contracts. The latter of which they will also likely lose this summer. They won't have a top 6 center and will have about 6 mil to fill half of an entire roster. It's much more bleak than you make it seem. They have to move salary and litter their roster with league min contracts. 10 roster spots to be filled with ~6 million. gl;hf. Their goalie duo will likely have to be broken up. So trade their Vezina season goalie or lose the promising young gun. While I don't forsee them being a basement team yet, a bottom 10 finish is very possible.

The Boston first-rounder is probably the only shot Yzerman has at a lottery pick tbh. With the offseason the Bruins have coming up, it's very plausible that they could finish bottom 10 next season, bumping the pick to 2025. If that happens, they may be ripe for a rebuild going into the 24/25 season. They will likely lose their two top centers, they can't afford Bert, and when factoring in cap penalties they have like 6 million to fill out half a roster. Hard times ahead. Hang on to that pick.

Now that he has finally coached a team that I know people root for, it seems the guy is a one-trick pony. Once you figure out how to beat his teams, he reaches his expiration date. Also holy s*** have the Rags absolutely botched their rebuild. Gifted two lottery picks to build around, did nothing to develop them, and now there is talk of one being shipped out of town because of the cap. It turns out you need to suck for more than two years to build up the ol prospect pool. -
5/7 - Draft Lottery GDT - Detroit v The Bettman - 8PM EST
marcaractac replied to Walman6million's topic in General
The Wings have a 0.2% chance at the third overall pick. While there are only 2 lottery picks, there is a scenario where Detroit moves up to #3. That is if Ottawa wins the first lotto pick and Detroit wins the second. Ottawa can only move up 10 spots to 2nd. so in that case, Detroit would be bumped to 3rd, and Anaheim gets 1OA. -
More old guys? Yawwwnnnn. Here's an idea: roll with the young players.

The exposing of modern day Ken Holland. Chris Illitch dodged a ******* bullet getting Yzerman back. Aso, they can't score 5v5 dealing with Kopitar and danault.

I think Bedar's shortcomings mentioned here will certainly give him a tougher time adjusting to the NHL than a guy like McDavid did. But I do think he will be a top-10 player in the league in due time. Will he put up McDavid numberS? Absolutely not. We may never see that again after McDavid. But I do think he has that dedication, work ethic, and will to win that will have him put in all the work in the gym and on the ice to keep getting better. I feel like his development trajectory will be closer to Jack Hughes than Connor McDavid. But I think Crosby COULD be his ceiling. But it won't happen overnight. He will have to work for it, for the reasons you have mentioned. Of course, when I talk draft lottery picks, Fantilli is very much a part of that conversation. While I agree that lottery picks are by no means the end all, be all many make them out to be, getting one of those two top players would be a huge deal for this rebuild.
-
Oh for sure. I'm not at all worried about the players we do have. At all. I just think we're in need of one more center and winger to get to that Tampa level. Larkin will still be valuable even beyond his current contract. Hopefully, at that time he goes full-on Bergeron and sticks around for little money to keep the train rolling. If we luck out and win a lottery pick, I will quickly switch to that rebuild over, we're all set frame of mind.
-
Oh, I agree that it is too early to tell, just more of a hunch based on what we see in the system now. If Yzerman can add a couple young, high-end scoring players up front, one of which being a center, I'll feel pretty confident about Tampa-like potential. I also base this on being roughly 5 years from being a contender. Once that window of contention opens, we need another young, high-end center to keep that window open for a long time. The window with Larkin as a top center is probably not a very long one.

I'm not yet convinced this iteration of the team will win any cups. I feel like this will be what the Rangers were before their recent rebuild. win a series or two every playoffs, but not get all the way there.

McDavid to Detroit in his 30s confirmed?
-
Skating is a big difference here. Larkin's speed will keep him competitive as a top 6 forward well into his 30s. All keeping Bert would have done (assuming he was even willing to re-sign, which all signs point to he wasn't) would have been to make the team not bad enough to get good and not good enough to win anything. Yzerman should have moved Hronek and Bert last year and went all in on the Bedard tank this season. Hopefully this offseason he relies more on youth to fill roster spots than signing vets again. There are enough vets with winning experience on the roster as is.
-
Bert is def a guy you want on a team ready to contend right now. Bert will not be the player he is now in 5 years' time, which is when the Wings should start to become a contender again.
-
He gets so much praise for the Canada gold at the WJC, but that was all Bedard.

Make that 5 points in 5. This kid is gonna make the Wings roster out of camp. Tyler who?
-
He'd be a Calder candidate if he was put in the same position to succeed as Raymond.

And households needing dual incomes to make ends meet. Pumping out kids was easy back in the day with a single household income, eliminating any need for daycare. We are literally being held up on having children of our own because of 2-3 year waitlists for daycare. It's a crisis in this area that has to be solved.

Capitalism is reducing the number of kids, not gays.

Vrana ain't gonna do s*** in any playoffs.

Do you ever think that the draft picks play well with the Wings BECAUSE time was taken to properly develop them first? They get to play when they are ready. Not for the sake of it.

Edvinsson has been called up, practicing with Hagg.

Pride nights aren't about the players. It's about showing fans that all walks of life are inclusive. You know, the whole 'Hockey is for Everyone' campaign? Face it. These players are soft, delicate flowers.

It's all low-hanging, ticket-selling fruit. You put on a jersey for warmups, they are auctioned off to raise money for charities. But doing so for the LGBTQ community is too much for conservative snowflakes. They are the ones who are soft.
