Absolutely. His struggles in the first half stemmed from changing his approach to the game. He has learned to depend more on his size to stop pucks rather than athleticism. When depending on his athleticism, he'd lose positioning in the net which led to him getting lit up regularly. But god damn did he ever clean up that part of his game. He now only depends on his athleticism when he absolutely needs to, and it is paying off big time. I suspect he'll struggle less in GR than he did in Toledo. Though he will still have a lot more work to do, of course. But for all the "Cossa is a bust" preachers, they are very much all wrong. Sure it would have been nice to see him in GR this year. But he has s*** to work on. Better to do that behind a good team in Toledo vs the s*** storm GR has been on and off all season. I suspect both Toledo goalies will be the GR duo next season.

Wallstedt would as well, for those who are still dick-riding him.

They absolutely are forced to wear camo jerseys on a military night. There is just no pushback on it because they are hypocrites.
-
99.9% of us aren't military or police either, but the league will happily put on nights celebrating those people with special jerseys during warmups. But of course, a subset of players are too big of snowflakes to put on a rainbow jersey for warmups to show that the league is supposed to be inclusive of all walks of life.

Ehh, the known issues are still there whether he finishes the season here or not. Even if he went on a hot streak, there are still lots of risks and a very low trade value. Rehabbing him is more of a long term project Perron just had a kid
-
The trade was to simply prevent having to buy him out. Now they are off the hook for his contract by the end of next year VS the mess of a buyout. Too much baggage/risk involved for him to ever fetch any sort of return.

Imagine thinking that losing Vrana sets the rebuild back by any amount, let alone a significant amount.

Yeah nobody ever accused Cossa of being better right now. He was clearly drafted based on his potential. Higher ceiling, although a much lower floor than Wallstedt. Wallstedt has been playing pro hockey in Sweden for a while. Even he had a period of struggling to transition to the AHL. Cossa has been doin' the Hasek in junior. He had to change his game a LOT this season. It f***ed with his confidence, but now it is paying off. The dude has all the tools and the work ethic to be great. But he was always gonna be more of a project in terms of development, and that's okay.

Playing more compact and using his size over athleticism are the exact changes Cossa has been making this season, which are now paying off. Next season. he'll get the chance to do it at the AHL level. It's fine to think he was the wrong pick. It's silly to think he is already a bust, however. He has done everything asked of him to get better and is now getting the results. He is on the right trajectory at this point and that's all one can really hope for.
-
Why even chime in if you've already determined him to be a bust? The Wild have their own forum if you want somewhere to gush about Wallstedt. The kid has shown significant strides in terms of development from early season until now. It's not his fault he can't get a call up to GR because Ned is there.

Walman is good to keep around short term due to his chemistry with Seider while young dmen in the system develop. I think Johansson will be Seider's partner down the road though.
-
Cossa really starting to dominate in Toledo now. It's almost has if some players need time to develop and aren't automatic busts at 20. 10 GA in his last five starts and he brought his subpar save % above .90 on the season. But please let's make this post all about Wallstedt again

Yeah, this would be a nice move. Johansson or Wallinder are moveable to acquire a need, but Wallinder is definitely the "sexier" prospect. I'm fine with it because while not flashy, I think Johnasson is gonna be a really good top 4 dman for this team for many years. Wallinder will hit higher scoring totals, but Johansson could be that big-time minute-eater who can play in all situations. -

Comes down to how their goaltending performs tbh. McDavid was pretty dominant in the playoffs last year until he met a dman who can keep up with him. We'll see if Calgary's new found depth can get them over that hump. -

Yeah, what could have been? -
Especially considering defense is a position of strength as far as prospects go. If we're talking about acquiring a young, top-line center, I'm all ears on giving up those kinds of assets. Even then, you try and limit things to one first rounder.

100% Must be nice to be a geezer GM and not have any concern about the future of the franchise. -

Big time. Arizona wouldn't be able to accept that offer quickly enough. And we kind of need that 2023 1st to address the lack of high-end talent up front. I think Johansson will be a great partner for Seider at some point. Then you'll have Edvinsson anchor the second pairing. Tough to play against for damn sure.
