Six teams on Nash's trade "list", none Canadian

For all anyone knows, Ryan is not even on the block... his GM talked to him after his comments over draft weekend, and ever since it's been quiet. Things probably got smoothed over and he's fine now, but who knows. I just think the possibility of us getting Nash or Ryan are remote to zero. We are far more likely to trade for Yandle or Bouwmeester.

    Semin

I'd have to imagine if Datsyuk was in Holland's ear about getting Semin here, that Semin would be here or at least we'd be in discussions with his Agent. I just think Holland is trying to figure out defense now and also waiting on Doan.

    Smith Leads Charge

I am completely fine with us going with what we have and adding a veteran to battle it out with Kindl and provide depth.... I think our defense is not as bad as some of these crazies think it is. Sometimes you need to take a step back and see what you have, I think that's what Holland is doing right now. He'll add another defensemen, but I don't think it'll be anyone huge. At best, I can see him making a trade for Yandle or Bouwmeester, but that is all.

PK Subban for Flippula and Tatar?

You are basing this on one playoff run, from this past season. Yes, he was phenomenal, but have you seen his stats the previous playoff runs that LA has had? 2010/11 : 2 Wins 4 Losses 3.16 GAA .913 SV% 2009/10 : 2 Wins 4 Losses 3.50 GAA .884 SV% I am not saying Quick isn't a solid goaltender, he is, but to say Howard cannot play as well as Quick had this past post-season is a tad ridiculous. Before Howard was injured in the reg season, he was on track to be, at least, a Vezina nominee.... I don't think we've seen the true measure of how well Howard can play in the post-season yet, just as prior to this season, the same could have been said for Quick.

Rozsival, Vandermeer, and Barker should come before Jurcina...

I completely agree, and I cannot understand the obsession with Nash or Ryan, as far as what we'd have to give up. At this point, our REAL need is on defense, so we should be looking at adding a couple UFA's or trading for Yandle, Bouwmeester, or Boyle, etc.. I like our offensive options, we were tops in the league last season, offensively, and won't be that far behind this year. Of course, this depends on defensive offense as well (Kronwall, Quincey, White, and Smith all need to pull together and put up decent offensive numbers, which I fully believe they can and will). Kronwall - 15 goals, 35 assists Quincey - 6 goals, 33 assists White - 5 goals, 23 assists Smith - 9 goals, 34 assists

    Smith Leads Charge

I just feel that Smith is going to have a Calder-worthy season. He is very good and there is plenty of opportunity for him to succeed and grow. My prediction is he pots 43 pts. Color me overly-positive, but that is what I believe.

I would personally like to see us get a guy like Rozsival... he might cost a little more, but he is a right handed shot who has shown offensive ability in the past (on better teams) and I see him fitting our system well. He could step in and man the point on either powerplay unit. Maybe someone can give me a little clarification, but does he play with a big of an edge too? I wasn't sure about that part of his game, but he does have good size. If not him, I would like for us to take a chance on Cam Barker.... he's only 26 and has a ton of potential, when if nurtured properly, could pay dividends. In the end though, I'd be happy with Vandermeer and letting the kids get a chance.

PK Subban for Flippula and Tatar?

So this rumor has no legs, right? No one has seemed to address the source very much or whether or not it's accurate or not... Yes, they have Quick, but I would wager if Jimmy were to get hot (kind of like he was playing prior to being injured last season), he can be just as good as Quick was. And yes, they have Doughty, but after him.... there is nothing too impressive on the back-end. Up front, you're looking at Kopitar, Carter, and Brown (streaky). We have Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppula, and Franzen (streaky).

How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

I'm not really as worried about leadership. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Kronwall will have everything under control, in my opinion.

    The Next Move

Yeah... I'm sure we'll have a 14th forward, riding the pine, making $1.9 million per season. Let's be a little more realistic here. Tootoo will be on the 4th line at least. He may even see some powerplay time in front of the net ala Holmstrom.

    The Next Move

I still don't understand the severity of people's fear for the upcoming season, given the roster we have now. We have plenty of depth up front and I'd be surprised if we don't at least trade some players for picks, but more than likely for a defenseman. I don't see our defense as being as bad as some crazies think it is. Is it going to take a hit? Yes, of course, but sometimes you need to have a little adversity to become a stronger team in the end, and that is what I believe you'll see with our present roster. Our offense is just as good as last year and I believe will contend for top 3 this season. We added some snarl and will have a little more grit to our game. Having a healthy Helm back is huge, as is Eaves (if he doesn't get traded for another asset). I just think there is a lot of fear that is misappropriated. We tried hard to get the top players this offseason, and it just didn't end up that way, but that is no reason to freak out or start calling for Holland's head. I'm sure he's still working the phones. Simmer down everyone!

PK Subban for Flippula and Tatar?

Why? It's not the best team, but hell - look at LA, they didn't have some superstar team and their defense is no better than our defense RIGHT NOW. The measure of success in the playoffs does not come down to us having Yandle/Nash/Ryan... it comes to down to hard work and determination, which is something I feel this upcoming season will have more of for the Wings.

How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

If Brunner doesn't work out, and assuming we don't add any more offensive firepower, I'd love to see the Wings give Jurco a chance... Put him on Datsyuk's wing and see what he can do. It can't hurt.

PK Subban for Flippula and Tatar?

I wouldn't mind this move, as long as we add some more depth up front (top 6).... Losing Flip is unfortunate, but may be a necessary evil to improve our blueline. Having Subban, who is still quite young, along with Smith for years to come could be pretty nice. It also adds some more edge to our play going forward. Would I rather we get Yandle, sure, but that cost may be way too high. Franzen-Datsyuk-Brunner Nyquist-Zetterberg-Samuelsson Cleary-Helm-Eaves Bertuzzi-Abdelkader-Tootoo Miller Kronwall - Subban Quincey - White Ericsson - Smith Kindl Howard Gustavsson

Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2012/07/shane_doan_interested_in_red_w.html Sounds encouraging, if things don't work out in Phoenix. Sure, he's older, but I think he's exactly the type of player this team needs, and can serve as a stop-gap between now and in a couple of years when some of our young studs are ready (Jurco, Pulkkinen, etc). I think Smith will be just as good, if not better than Yandle in a couple seasons. We'll see.

How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

I think leaving Eaves out of the lineup is a mistake.... he was hurt last season so many people seem to forget that we have him. He has a good speed, great defensive abilities, and can also pot us 15-20 goals with relatively low ice time. I strongly believe Eaves is going to get a better look at things this season and be consistently in the lineup.... Oh, and he's a right handed shot.

Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill

Yes, and his agent has opened up the bidding... He still may stay in Phoenix. Sounds like it may drag out, possibly. Hopefully what Khan says about his agent contacting us several times prior to now means that Doan is seriously considering us as his destination after Phoenix... Makes sense since we beat down on Phx consistently in the playoffs and Doan has lived with that, why not go to that team that you could never beat in the playoffs? I hope he comes here and finishes out his career. He'll look good on Datsyuk's or Zetterberg's wing.

    Semin

He gets a bad rap... but I think he's a more solid hockey player than most and Datsyuk and him had great chemistry at the Worlds... Sign him up 5 years @ 5.5 cap hit per. I bet he just wants term over money right now (security).

Wings hire Tom Renney as Assistant Coach (3-year contract)

Yes, but it's all hearsay... nothing is based on any factual information. That's all it ever is, which is why people need to stay away from just guessing and assuming they know what's up. Cleary played his ass off in the playoffs on one knee, I guess that must mean that Babcock hates every player but Cleary. Think about it, seriously.
  22. SwedeLundin77

    Is Mike Babcock the issue?

Did Babcock scare away the UFA's? Did Holland low-ball them? Are they scared of 8 Mile Road? Did Fedorov's and McCarty's past gambling problems scare them off? Do they not like dirty slushy snow? Were they scared that if they said "******" in Michigan, that it would mean they'd be barred from speaking on the House floor? Do they hate pot-holes? Did Eminem's music make them think that Detroit is a cesspool of crime and indecency? Do we not love our athletes enough? What did we do wrong, how can we fix it, on my God.... I think the world is coming to an end!!! Silly silly fans... let's stop smoking crack and move on now.

    The Next Move

You're out of your depth... The Wings have far more offensive depth, and their defense, when compared to either team is at the very least equal (as is). I would love Enstrom... solid d-man with good offensive upside.

Wings hire Tom Renney as Assistant Coach (3-year contract)

It's really frustrating when people pull assumptions out of their ass like they are a fly on the wall in the locker room and on the bench... seriously - You do not know what you say you do. Let's keep the "Jump to Conclusions mat" at home kiddies.
