I know, I know, and I know. I should have added a [/sarcasm] to my post. But even those 3 goals wouldn't have stopped the Howard haters with their "he never makes the big stop" baloney
-
Man, Howard sucks! 3 goals on 10 buffalo shots??? Kenny should trade him for a bag of pucks while he still has some value, we need to make Mrazek the starter ASAP! Oh, waitaminute...... Seriously, awesome slo-mo vid of Tatars game winner on the Wings FB page, but don't know how to link it on here. Recommend you all check it out.

12/13 GDT : Red Wings 1 @ Maple Leafs 4 *MOD WARNING POST 198*

Mindfly, is that you? -
So on the one hand we're playing a realgud team, which usually means we play realgud On the other, its a matinee game which usually means we sleepwalk through it. Not sure what to expect here....

In the East? Absolutely. The East is wide open. Boston have lost some of their depth and it shows, Pittsburgh still have no wingers and questionable goaltending. Zetterberg and Datsyuk may not quite be at the elite level of Crosby and Malkin any more, but the Pens would kill for our depth at wing, and I wouldn't swap Howard for three MAF's The current, healthy crop of forwards is what we've been looking forward to for several years. Add a RH PMD and we have a rounded, balanced team. Good PK, PP improving, good goaltending, what's not to like?
-
He's also well known for winding people up with enormous porkies. Remember when it said the media guide that he was a backup goalie for Ireland at the 94 World Cup?
-
I think they're being ultra cautious with groins this year. Better to sit for a week than try to play through it and be out 2 months. Plus we have 4 days off after the Tampa game
-
The problem with the "debunking" is that there are quotes out there saying its true, and there are quotes out there saying it isn't true.....

In Rugby the ref can give a "penalty try" for blatant cheating such as this - automatic 5 points.

Many years ago, the cricket team I played for had an ongoing competetion to see who could find the cheapest beer. The prize was taken when one guy came back from holiday with a 4-pack that cost the grand total of 58 pence. No-one was going to beat that. Couldn't even begin to remember the "brand".

Not just the KHL, he also suffered through all 3 lockouts. That's another ~160 games right there. My favourite non-Wing, incredible player.

Was thinking about this in the shower today...hoping Matt is going to surprise us November 1st
-
I would say the level is about ECHL. Unfortunately the league will never get any better as every year the best players leave to play in Germany or elsewhere for more money. THere's also almost no effort put into developing homegrown talent which really bugs me, its just easier to import Canadians with British parents or grandparents.

Jimmy is mediocre......he never makes the big save......he never steals us any points.......the team plays better in front of Monster..... Actually, the last point. Just watch, Monster will go in against Toronto at the weekend and we'll explode for 5 goals.

1680 x 1050 for desktop, but I usually put a border round it when I haven't got the right size anyway

There is no difference. Except the players they had in front of them. I've been following the Wings on message boards for 12+ years, and it doesn't matter who is in net - Osgood, Hasek, CuJo, Howard - there is a hardcore minority of Wings fans who are never happy with our goaltending, and for who the minimum standard is 82-0-0 with a 1.000 SV% and 0.00GAA. I remember 07-08 and the endless goalie threads bitterly complaining about how bad our goaltending was (we allowed fewest goals in the league that season). I remember the 2003 playoffs, in order to beat the Ducks 4-0, CuJo would have needed a 0.75GAA and the Wings to score 2 more goals, yet for many he was the only reason we lost. Kronwall toe-picks, Ericsson stands around like a fart in a trance, one of the best players in the world scores a sick backhand, and somehow its all Jimmys fault?

Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?
Nev replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Well, the Blues haven't done anything in the playoffs so far, despite all their potential. Lombardi has done a great job buidling the Kings, but he's also had the luxury of 2nd overall Drew Doughty, 11th overall Anze Kopitar, 13th overall Dustin Brown, and 5th overall Brayden Schenn who begat Mike Richards. All higher picks than we've had than forever. -
I think there might be a game tonight, but I'm not sure when, who its against or what the line-ups are This may be your best work yet Flashy.

Interestingly, when we moved East there was a thread on HFboards with fans of Eastern teams saying how soft Detroit were. I was pleasantly surprised to see fans of Chicago, San Jose and Anaheim posting to say essentially "if you think Detroit is soft because they don't have any tough guys, you're in for a shock". Comparing us to Boston (and I know you want us to be just like Boston) is comparing us to the gold standard. They are a blend of size, toughness, goaltending and elite skill that rarely comes along - Anaheim 2007 is probably the last example. And they've still only won 1 cup with it. -
I agree. BUT Datsyuk and Alfredsson/Mantha are out. Put them in the line-up and these are our forward lines Franzen - Z - Nyquist Weiss - Datsyuk - Alfie/Mantha Jurco - Sheahan - Tatar Miller - Helm - Abdelkader Scrubs: Glendening/Andersson/Cleary/Nesty Suddenly that's a helluva 4th line we've got. 1st line is money. 2nd line is a bit of a lucky dip I'll grant. 3rd line is money.

This. Very, very disapointing. After the last 2 years of only just scraping into the playoffs with a point or two to spare, one would hope we'd learn our lesson and ice the best possible roster from day 1. 2 points in October are worth just as much as 2 points in April. And like others have said, this kind of crap is exactly what will force Babs out.

Thing is, Kindl always had question marks over his play in the AHL, I remember he was -33 or somesuch one year, and he never put up big numbers like Kronwall did despite being an "offensive" defenceman. His NHL career is pretty much what could be predicted from his play in the minors. Oullet is 21 and playing like a man already. People are high on him for a reason. Not to mention we have 5 (FIVE!) top D prospects who all run out of waiver exemption in 2 years, at the same time. We need to start feeding them into the NHL now, as and when they become ready. And if we can't trade Kindl for a 7th and eating half his salary, then waive him, maybe we'll get lucky and someone will pick him up. If not, he'd be a good 3rd pairing defenceman in Grand Rapids.
-
Yeah, I thought Bowman wanted to trade him for Yashin - which still would have left us with 6 centres.....

He still posts on HFboards, but he's changed. Whereas he was Hollands biggest defender, he is now Hollands biggest critic. He's like a jilted lover - all the energy and aggression he poured into defending Holland is now directed at attacking Holland. Yes he was. He also had a completely irrational hatred of Mark Messier that I never managed to get to the bottom of. You'd have loved it Grimey, endless threads on why the Wings aren't tough enough and need more fighters. Huge, long, threads with the same posters going round and round arguing the same points with all posters identified as pro or anti-fighting (except we were never anti fighting, we were anti-goons who contribute nothing else, but that was always ignored). Cheerleader in chief for the pro-fighting camp was the delightfully named E.S.A.D. who regarded himself as a balanced and tolerant poster, and would always preface his attacks on the anti-fighters with something like "I know you guys can't help it, you're all euro pinko commie homo veggies, and its not your fault that you lack the intelligence to appreciate my argument, I really do understand that" and thought that made him a fair guy who saw both sides of the argument Anyone who disagreed with him had clearly never worn skates or been to a game

I miss Eva, and his arguments that Kronwall was better than Housley based upon the number of 17th place Norris votes that he received or somesuch . Every now and then he would pull out a brilliantly sane and lucid argument though. He had Aspergers, so I was willing to cut him a lot of slack. Mindfly I don't miss at all.
