    Chris Kunitz

I had a class with Kunitz when he was at Ferris and he seemed to be a class act. For me he is the only reason I wasn't completely pissed about the Ducks winning the cup. I bet his time with the Ducks has changed him. Hopefully it won't change him too much.

Meech - Send down? Offer up?

Do not speak of what you do not know.

Fair enough. I wasn't trying to imply that Torts wasn't someone that knew how to win. Maybe each coach knows their players better than we do. I mean if the Wings were losing and Babs just sat on the bench, and they still lost the game, I'd be pissed. However, that doesn't happen much. So I watch the game and think to myself "Hey this guy treats these players like they're pros, not some pee-wee league. Then you can watch Torts and see a coach that motivates through emotion. If they win great the emotion paid off. If they lose he looks like a person with anger issues screaming at those around him so he'll fell better as a person. Either way, I respect your opinion and abililty to put together a case based on counterpoint and not screaming the same thing over and over.

I don't want to argue back and forth because you have the right to want any style of coach you wish, but the coach you used as an example of your point is in last place in the division and in the east. But like I said, you can prefer any coach you want, I personally want a coach that wins.

    The irate one

As I watched the game, a friend and I discussed the pros and cons of what I'll call "emotional coaching". Basically it's when a head coach has just as much, if not more emotion than the players. This was we witnessed last night. The Wings score a go ahead goal and Wayne gets pissed and starts screaming. Mind you he isn't yelling at the refs for a missed call or the wings for a dirty play, he's yelling at his own guys. I think such a negative vibe from a coach only spreads negativity. When this happens, people start playing to not lose instead of playing to win. And if you're not playing to win you must be playing to lose. Emotional players are needed in hockey as in every sport. The players that play with their hearts on they're sleeve are usually the players we all love (with the exception of Lidstrom). But coaches are not players and as such must rise above emotion. This is what I love about Mike Babcock. If the role was reversed and the wings had just gone down a goal, Babcock shows little to no emotion. He gathers the players around and comes up with a game plan to actually win the game. Maybe if Wayne would offer more than "Play better" at the top of his lungs his team might win more. If they won more maybe he wouldn't have to scream as much. Just a thought
