This has some relevance in the Ericsson thread but I thought I'd leave it here. Abby had some comments on fighting and I think he is spot on. The game has evolved and while I am just as much an old school hockey guy as the next and don't think it will ever fully be eliminated, there really just isn't as much a need for it as there was in traditional times. His comments also lend to the DRW way...not in the last decade has the team been your powerhouse of fighters/grinders/etc, and I think as a team they usually finish near the bottom for fighting majors of the season. It is a point of evolution of the game and DRW as an organization not surrounding itself with fighters (talking about Ericsson now). -- “I think there could be a place for fighting as far as just policing the guys,” Abdelkader said. “It’s the after the whistle stuff, the different things that can go on." “At the same time, no one really needs to fight anymore. I just think you’re seeing less and less of it. Players are more skilled and focused on playing (well) on the ice than going out and fighting. You’re not seeing a fourth line that’s full of guys that are going to go out and fight.” http://windsorstar.com/sports/hockey/nhl/detroit-red-wings/wings-abdelkader-thinks-fighting-on-way-out

What is everyones second favorite team?

Never emotionally tied to any other team other than USA Hockey in the Olympics, WJCs, and now the World Hockey Classic. I really liked watching the Plymouth Whalers when they were in town and always root for OHL teams in general in Memorial Cup and enjoy a Milwaukee Admirals game or two during the season because that's where I live, trying to go especially when the Griffs are in town.

Kronwall out 2-4 Weeks after Knee Scope

As long as this isn't long term, I think Kindl and Marchenko will fill in well during this injury of Kronwall.

Great GDT. Let's go Wings! No worries about Howard...the prodigal defenseman has returned...Kyle Quincey!!

    Jakub Kindl waived

According to Khan: Kindl has until noon Sunday to clear waivers. If he does, he'll be assigned to Grand Rapids. Move was needed to clear cap space for Quincey. Wings tried to trade Kindl for draft pick but couldn't. Teams wanted them to take back a player in return and they can't assume more salary. I really hope he clears, I like him and he is a viable defenseman in our line up.

Pick next season's Winter Classic teams/location

TCF Bank Stadium. Wild vs. pretty much any of their division would be great, but would prefer Blues, Hawks (ugh), Jets (imagine the old school jerseys), Stars (team in en fuego and prob will still be next year). Think it makes sense - hockey pretty big in Minnesota, could host for college/junior/high school etc games outside of the actual WC and I bet it would be a great event even if they can't get beer sold at college stadium, I remember that being a hurdle that needed to be crossed for hosting at Michigan Stadium.

Very nice win for our boys. What a showing from Larkin and Mrazek. I think we all had expectations for Larkin and he's exceeded them and then some. I personally didn't realize how fast he was, and now he's showing toughness. What could be next? Let's run back another one in the win column tomorrow night.
