"If you watch closely enough the skate in players paths that are away from the puck. Thus ly making players have to skate around them, this should be interference." lol. Are you joking me? He really said that? Do they have good drugs in that town or what?

Why the Wings will lose this series

Here's a stat: Wings win even when they're playing s***ty. What does that tell you? If Wings are beating Pittsburgh and doing so while playing like crap, what happens if Detroit happens to get 1 or 2 "good" games in? Pittsburgh is giving it everything they have to even attempt to hang with the Wings. Wings are still winning. Should say a lot, when you win 2 games while playing like crap Dats and Drapes are still out. It was back to back with little rest time before the series. We have FOUR people from Grand Rapids in our line up. Let me stress this: We just won games 1 and 2, with 4 people from Grand Rapids, and short our top faceoff man, and top dangler. First game, Detroit won 39-16 faceoffs, short our top faceoff guy. Last game, TWO people from Grand Rapids scored, short our top setup guy. I think......I do dare say......we're doing fine

    Malkin's penalty rescinded (merged)

*** topic. Shouldn't even be an issue. Some of the best fights I've ever seen happened in the last 5 minutes. Let Malkin play. The rule is dumb. I should be abolished completely or amended, and made specific. I don't like the fact that it's so open to interpretation any more than the next guy. Why have rules, if they're open to interpretation? It's like saying, "Limo" IS a word in scrabble cause it's in common usage, while another guy argues that the real word is longer. Let him play. Who cares. Arguing that a player should be suspended for a fight is petty. He didn't interfere with the play. He was called on the penalty, as was Talbot, which pretty much ensured Detroit won. What more punishment do they need? The penalties were called. A Suspension is just freaking rediculous. If you're nervous about game 3 I can understand that you'd want a start player OUT of the game, but he didn't do anything more than hundreds of players have done for nearly a hundred years. If I see anyone saying he "SHOULD" be kicked out for this, I disown you as a fellow Wings fan. Did any of you see the 96, 97, playoffs? Jesus man. It's part of the game. I was quite excited to see Malkin throw with Zett. Since when do we get excited about a fight, cause I know sure as hell everyone was standing, cheering, and rooting one way or another, to then later fall back on a suspension technicallity? Some of you make me sick. I know most of you agree, but some of you are obviously very poor fans of hockey.

Still think the Wings are old?

Ironic, that our "Old team" had 2 guys freshly called up from Grand Rapids.....score tonight. 3 Goals of six, by guys less than a few days into the league. Game winner of the Chicago series, how old is Helm? The "old" statement was developed when guys like Hull and Chelios were still primary players. It just hasn't disapeared, even though Detroit is more than 70% developed out of it's very own farm league now. Perhaps by "old" he means.......... Leino, Fillpula, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Abel-however you spell it-Helm, Erricson, Kronwall, Stuart. Yep, pretty old team For the old guys we play Lidstrom, Draper, Rafalski, Sammy, Cleary, Osgood, and some of them aren't even that old. If having half your team in their twenties, and half veteran cup winners is a bad thing........well then we shouldn't be two wins from another cup, now should we? So far "Youth" in Pittsburgh has led to a 2-0 deficit two years in a row, and they even ADDED old guys with cups, to try to compensate

Osgood has the the best winning % in Cup Final history

I pretty much see this same mentality every year, but I've also seen Ozzie win two cups as starter, and one as backup. Anyone who talks sh*t about Osgood is a tool. I will never understand why so many people will come to the forums, and bash a player after a short string of games? There was a Hossa thread declaring that he should basically be burned as a witch, because his playoff performance hasn't been that great. Oh sure ignore that he lead the team in goals all year, and has 3 two goal games in the playoffs. Osgood isn't underrated by anyone but HIS FANS. Everyone knows he can win in the playoffs, and he proves it every single year. What happened when we got rid of Osgood and tried Cujo? Losses. Who stepped in for a faltering Hasek last year? Osgood. Some of you need to quit being so short sighted. HELM IS AWESOME. Helm sucks today. HELM IS AWESOME. Nope sucks again, cause he didn't score a few games. NOW HE'S AWESOME AGAIN! Hossa is a tool. HOSSA IS AWESOME!!!! GREAT PICKUP!!! Hossa, tool. NO AWESOME AGAIN!!!!! Some of you really need to take a pill, and accept that players don't always do what YOU want them to do. Now there is a Holmstrom "Isn't doing so well" thread? Are you sincerely brain damaged? After all the man has done, you have the balls to step in and pretend you might actually know more than the scouts, the coaches, the owners, and the players on the ice? What you see, is maybe half the truth, at any given point, and any given time. "Holmstrom looks out of place" "Holmstrom looks shakey". Alright, I'd like to see your NHL caliber credentials to make those claims? Do you know his injuries? Ever considered maybe he's having a rough night? Ever considered maybe Their D is making him so? Crosby hasn't scored yet. Should Pittsburgh fans be saying, "Man, this guy really sucks, we were mislead!!!!!" That's what every single player bashing post on this forum is basically doing. When you work at the NHL level, or for 99% of you......even try playing hockey, I think a little consideration should be given to shutting up......before speaking. Two years in a row Datsyuk was invisible in the playoffs. Then, he was a super player. Now, this year he hasn't done much offensively, but how would you rate him overall? Why not make a few "Datsyuk should be benched" posts? Bottom line: You all like to jump on the newest trend. Anyone who claims Hossa should be traded, after coming off a team leading goal streak, is an idiot. Anyone who thinks Osgood hasn't got what it takes, 2 wins from another cup, and 3 cups under his belt, is an idiot. Anyone who thinks Holmstrom is done, should go dig a big hole and jump in it.

Wings Winning Because of our Goaltending

This, actually is somewhat true. When a goaltender is hot, and you're realizing you can't get shizz past him, you start to shoot for the edges as much as you can. that results in a lot of posts, and a lot of missed nets. Ozzie isn't letting anything in. Fedetenko had to get a rebound (Ozzie was in horrible position), and Malkin needed a little help from Detroit to get his goal, heh. I was thinking of going to the Penguins forums and starting a thread on how if they made the net just a little bit wider, Penguins would be winning this series, just to see what kind of storm I could brew up. But then I realized, they'd probably think it's a good idea :-p

    Classy Pens fan?

Yes, but read the rest of that board. I've never seen so much immature drivel. Not even the Anaheim fans a few years back. Some of the people on that board have got to be about 12 years old, and a great many more are delusional. I feel bad for the good fans who try to go there to have a conversation.

    Pens Boards, (merged)

I don't know the exact dynamic, but Joe Louis is an old building and has a style of boards that tend to absorb less of the blast of the puck, so it bounces harder and farther than a lot of the newer boards allow. Ie. Detroit has learned to play it's boards to get crazy bounces, and they've learned to watch for bounces coming off of them to get the bounce before someone else does, moreso than they do at newer arenas. Detroit admits that they will consider hitting the boards as an option if there is no clear lane to the net. It truely is a genuine home ice advantage for them, because they're so use to it. However, I've seen it go against Detroit too. More than once I've seen someone score from a bad bounce in Detroit. Anyone remember the Goal Osgood let in that bounced off the boards far to his left, and BAM, right in the net. I think it was against Colorado in 2002, but I can't remember for sure.

    Classy Pens fan?

It's kind of cute. Cute little baby pengy fans, with their cute little bibs and bows in their hair, and smashed peas for dinner :-p One day they'll grow up, and the fair weather fans will drop off the bandwagon, and the real fans will stick around. Some will get hit by buses or fall off bridges, but eventually they're mature beyond the "Crosby is god #2" and "Detroit cheats!!! All 6 goals weren't real!!!" mentality I've gone to games in Los Angeles and Colorado, and let me tell you thank god I'm a pretty big guy, because I might not have made it out alive. I had someone try to deny me entry into the smoke pit in Colorado, and dodged a thrown beer in Los Angeles as well as some attempts to throw lit cigarettes at my Jersey. *Shrug* Not that I mind, I just return the s*** talk and hope that if I get mobbed, security is close by hehe. There were a great many "Yzerman Sucks!" comments, which is always an indication of supreme hockey intellegence :-p Conversely, I went to a Detroit Joe Vision game against Pheonix and two kids with Pheonix Jersey's had to be seated between security, because some drunk ******* Wings fans wouldn't leave them alone. I felt bad for the kids. Later they were smoking outside and the entire smoke pit apologized to them, offering to buy them drinks. One guy even got them some pizza on his own accord, and refused to let them NOT take it.

Those guys are special They must dub the interviews in Pittsburgh, because they surely aren't watching the same Osgood Interviews that I've seen. Osgood has been toted as one of the MOST humble goalies in the league many times, over many years. He never says anything bad about another team. He never blames anything but himself. And he certainly never brags about his saves. *Shrug* Either someone needs to get these guys undubbed interviews, or a dictionary to look up the words "cocky" and "Humble". The "bad bounce, Good goaltending" argument is a slick way of whining, without trying to seem like a complete whiner. Ie. You make a gripe, but try to offset it by saying something positive. *Shrug* It reminds me of when I go to the range (I'm in the army). Anyone who ever doesn't shoot expert comes off the line with a slew of excuses such as, "Well some targets weren't working", and "the guys who loaded my magazines loaded them wrong so my weapon jammed", and so on. Nobody ever just simply says, "Welp, I shot crappy that time". There is always a rationalization as to why you're losing, and a justification as to how you're still better. The same applies not only to marksmanship and hockey, but to life in general. In a poll where people were asked to rate themselves, only 2% of people rated themselves as "Less than average" looking. And nobody rated themselves below a 4 out of 10. So even the snaggle toothed fat person who once fell into a deepfryer, still justifies somehow that they are at the least, average. Bottom line: Gripes and Justifications don't win series, nor do they legitamately make you any prettier But, it's easier to do those things than to accept the truth :-p

Crosby and Malkin... who are they?

They double shift them, and have played garbage teams all playoff long. Not shocking, nor really impressive that they racked up so many points. I saw a breakdown of points by ice time, and it wasn't that impressive. They've had the luxury of putting crosby and malkin out against other teams 3rd and 4th lines, but they haven't faced 3rd and 4th lines like Detroit has until now.
  20. truebladearmy

    4th Line

I was arguing this with some friends not too long ago. All playoffs long Pens have been double shifting Crosby and Malkin, tossing them out one at a time with the 3rd or 4th line. My argument was that.....if they try that against Detroit, they're in for a huge surprise. Maltby knew he was going to be skating against Crosby when they could sneak him in there. He raised his game to answer that. Amusing, that our 4th line has two players fresh from Grand Rapids, and still managed to shut down Crosby/Malkin. I love the way Detroit does it. They cultivate young players from the lowest level, slip them into a few games to test their mettle, and send them off to practice in the lower leagues some more. Datsyuk was one of these, Zetterberg, Hudler, Kronwall, Fillpula, and so on. Most of our team is "all original", and has played all or most of their careers with Detroit. Ever notice how when we trade in a new guy they never really seem to "fit", and it's always the players we raised ourselves that do the most ownage? Between Holland, Babcock, and hell even Bowman and Yzerman in the wings.....we have an amazingly talented core of recruiters. It's not "luck" that we suck Datsyuk's and Zetterberg's out of the latter rounds. Detroit doesn't look for the best guys in the draft, they look for the guys that will fill critical roles with a little development. Detroit finds potential, and turns it into talent. And it keeps us chugging along full speed year after year. When even you're 4th line is highly valuable, you know you're doing something right.

    NHL 09

My friend and I are diehard NHL 09 fans. We often play one another to grueling ties, amazing comebacks, and OT's that leave us sweating and in need of a drink. But, he is a Penguins fan, and I am a Detroit fan, and we're best at playing each of our teams respectively. Starting tonight, we're going to play Game 1 on nhl 2009 (Full playoff rules and settings), Detroit versus Pittsburgh. We'll continue to play over the next few days until we have finished a full Best of Seven series. Then we're going to compare our games to the real series, to include shots, hits, goals, OT's, wins, losses, and so on. Is anyone else in a position to do something similar? Have a little competition, see who's NHL 09 series is closest to the real thing If there's any interest, I'll post the results of our series as we complete games :-p

This time it will be different

I honestly believe the Pens would slaughter, pretty much any other team.

    You stay classy Pittsburgh!

I hope they DO throw a hubcap onto the ice. Just make sure the media gets wind of the Pittsburgh thread. 1) Detroit Red Wings would be on a mission to kill, if it happened. 2) It would definately take a lot of the media "hype" away from Pittsburgh, and make their fans look like morons. 3) Civil war would ensue. In other words.....they would only be ****ing themselves :-p I'm not saying I have anything against Pittsburgh fans. Every team has it's good fans, and it's bad fans. Teams that are "fresh" breakout teams tend to have more fair weather fans riding the bandwagon, who are less educated about hockey, and more prone to blatant insults and foolish predictions. We can't fault them for misunderstanding hockey because they are "new" to the sport. Detroit was no different back in 1995, 96, 97, etc. Before those years Detroit did not have a lot of fans. In fact, they were one of the worst teams in the league. Even I jumped on the bandwagon in 1995, before slowly becoming a genuinely true fan. Now, I've even made it a point to record and watch games when I was deployed to Iraq. I've been in Korea this entire season, and I still managed to catch a good 70 games (Thank god for nhl.com). But my first few years of "Fand-dom", I thought Sergei Fedorov was jesus reincarnate, and the Russian five was the new age of hockey. In 1995 I had heard all the hype and began to watch the games. But I wasn't BORN a hockey fan. And I certainly didn't come to hockey with the brightest knowledge of the sport. Hell it was probably half a season before I fully understood how offsides worked! When teams do well, it attracts new fans. Experience should teach us this, as I'm sure that MOST of the posters on this forum became Redwings fans either while, or after, the Redwings started kicking ass. Maybe a slight handful of people on our very own forums, were Detroit fans before 1995. And MOST people picked it up in 1996, or 1997. Back then, we too were convinced that the Russian five was unbeatable, Osgood was the greatest Goaltender to ever live, and Fedorov could skate faster than a speeding bullet. Many of us who have been fans for a longer time know that obviously, most of these delusions were....well....newbie assessments based on what little experience we had, and what the media/hype had told us. In Pittsburgh right now the news is playing up Pittsburgh to be the best team in the world. It is, I assure you, no different than how we felt about Detroit going into 1996. And this year is no different than how we felt going into 1997 against the Avs, whom beat us out in 1996. Young breakout hockey teams earn fans. Unfortunately, some of them are "new" to hockey. We were in that boat once. If Pittsburgh does well for many years to come, their fans will mature and grow as a "whole". We had to do well a few years to come to the sport, and then we've had our years of loses and tribulation to mellow us out a bit. Where once WE might have said "Datsyuk is our lord and savior!" and groveled at his feet protesting anyone who disagreed, now we say, "Datsyuk is a critical component of our team". Well, at least those of us that have been around hockey for nearly two decades Pittsburgh has found something to believe in, and a team that can potentially back it up. So, armed with hub caps and whatever other instruments of war they can muster, it's pretty natural that they're on the warpath, while we mostly sit inside our fortress of Stanley Cup ownership and wait. Sure we got a few newbies manning the walls tossing flame over the edges, and they've got a few wise men trying to lead the battle as well, but two years as a contender doesn't mature a fanbase as a whole nearly as much as 18 years does. No disregard to Pittsburgh fans. It's a simple fact that fans develop with time. The sales of Pittsburgh novelty items (Jersey's, posters, etc), increased more than 800% since aqcuiring crosby. Much like Detroit went from being dirt broke, to one of the richest franchises in history during the 1995-1998 playoffs. To all the mature, or well experienced Pittsburgh fans out there, I hope for a great series. To all the immature, or relatively knowledge lacking ones, I hope we beat you :-p To all the immature, or relatively knowledge lacking Detroit fans, I hope you STFU and stop ruining the image of the good fans
