Holland comments on Suter & Parise going to Wild
dat's sick replied to Liquidsnake's topic in General
Holland did a good job on Suter and Parise. Hard to do more really. Offering more than what Minny did would be reckless. We were basically top 3 it seems on both players list, but Detroit isn't Minnesota and that's hard to compete with when they clearly wanted to go to Minny. -
Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
dat's sick replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Well this is painful. The waiting, but also the knowing that IF we actually manage to sign him, it will be for MASSIVE money and MASSIVE term. If he doesn't live up to expectations big time it will look so bad in a few years. Parise makes it sound like he really wants to go to the same place as Suter, and rumors are Parise wants Minny while Suter wants Detroit. Would not be surprised if Parise swayed Suter to the Wild. If so, it's not the end of the world. In fact, we could look back on it as dodging a bullet, if Suter doesn't turn out to be worth 100 Million over 10+ years. Ugh, just want this to be over.- 487 replies

Parise Watch [update x2]: Red Wings OUT of Running
dat's sick replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
Parise's Wiki page is pretty funny. Being edited constantly. -
I agree, people are overrating Ryan a bit and underrating Filppula. Ryan has a career high of 71 points. The proposed trade of Filppula, Kindl and Tatar is not crazy imo. I wonder what Anaheim is asking, but if it's much more than that I say HELL NO.
-
Holland is doing the right thing trying to improve the team without giving up key pieces like Filppula, by signing Suter/Parise. If that doesn't happen, I'm sure he will try his best to indeed make a trade happen for Ryan/Nash.

Parise Watch [update x2]: Red Wings OUT of Running
dat's sick replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
On the other hand Pittsburgh's defense is highly questionable and so is Fleury. Just look at the series against Philly. If they sign Parise they'll have basically no money to improve the team in other ways. Detroit has the money to add Parise and maybe still get Suter or someone else on the defensive side. Can't say I expect Parise to become a Wing, but it's impossible to speculate what teams he have narrowed it down to. Is NJ still in there? I feel like if he was going to stay in NJ he would have already made that decision. So if there are two teams I'm guessing one is not NJ. Could be Pittsburgh and Minny, could be Wings and someone else. Personally I'm almost hoping we get Suter and Semin. Parise is going to be sooo expensive. -
Signed Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr

Not more than fair. He played great for us last year. Hopefully Kenny can make it happen. MacDonald for Nash. -
signed Red Wings Sign Mikael Samuelsson to 2-yr, $6m deal (w/full NTC)

Well neither of those things are for sure. Give Nyquist/Tatar a full season playing in the top 6 and who knows what they'd produce. They'll never score 20+ goals if they never get a real chance. Nyquist spent way too much time on the 3rd and 4th lines last year. Tatar has looked quite good in GR and was excellent for Slovakia in the latest WHC. Sammy is of course way more proven, but with his age also comes the question marks of whether he can keep producing like he has, and if he can stay healthy for most of the season. Like I said, I've always liked Sammy. I was one of the (few) fans that was very sad to see him go a couple of years ago. I hope he does well and justifies the decision to bring him back instead of maybe giving some of the kids a bigger role. -
signed Red Wings sign Damien Brunner, 1-year (2-way), $925,000 + bonuses

Not sure where this guy fits in with Holland's/Babcock's plans. Looks interesting, but doubtful he'll jump ahead of Nyquist. Anyway, more depth added to the organization and best case scenario he tears it up. -
signed Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

Atleast we won't have to play against him. Will be a little bit tough seeing him in a Red Wings jersey, but it makes us a more annoying team to play against. We've been missing that element since guys like McCarty and Maltby left. I see him as a 12th/13th forward, throw him in there against certain team to agitate.. Not my favorite signing but I can't argue he doesn't add something to the team. -

Part of me thinks that in Nyquist/Brunner/Tatar we already have guys that could very well be able to replace Hudler for less money than Sammy. But I'm not criticize this signing until we see how things play out. Adding Sammy does give us even more scoring depth, which could be needed if there is a trade in the works that would for example move Franzen out. Sammy definitely has his uses. He's getting up there in age so it's a question mark on that level. Can he stay healthy? I always liked Sammy when he was here, but he's older now. Hopefully he'll be motivated to prove himself to the Detroit fans again. -

I saw him quite a bit in the SEL when he actually WAS a Monster. Had high hopes for him when he went to the NHL, but in retrospect Toronto definitely seems like it was a bad fit for him. Bad defense, tons of pressure on the goalie position, lots of media.. didn't help that he had issues with his heart as well. If there is one place where he'll be able to recover and find his way again, it's here. Lots of fellow swedes, not much pressure on him playing behind Howard, but a great opportunity to play 30+ games if he performs well. There's not much to lose if he continues to be the up and down goalie he's been in TO, but there's a lot to win if he starts living up the nickname again. Good signing. -
Columbus won't want to trade him to us, so we'll have to give up way too much to make it happen. Word already is Holland has presented a trade to them that was deemed "not competetive". Just forget it.. I think Nash will stay a Jacket, they're asking too much for him and he has too few teams he's willing to go to. Parise/Semin: YES. Nash: NO.
-
Definitely. He even said that media/fans don't see what goes on in the lockerroom, when talking about Kronwall. Little surprised he didn't mention Datsyuk as a candidate. But I feel it's all but certain that Zetterberg will get it. He has all the qualities required and I think it will be good for him to get that sort of recognition and responsibility.

I feel so sad. This is truly the end of an era. I'm not gonna go all doom and gloom, because I think this team WILL survive without Lids. However, I would not be shocked to see our playoff streak finally come to an end soon. He's been more than just a player, he's been the example that everyone's followed, the glue holding everything together. There is a risk that things start to slide, just a bit, without him. I wish Lidstrom all the best. We should all feel lucky to have had the chance to see him night in and night out for so long. Of course I was hoping he'd keep going, but you can't fault a guy for calling it quits when he's not 100% motivated anymore. He didn't want to play half-assed, not being at his best. And that's another reason to love the guy. What an amazing athlete and person.

Zetterberg. The way he played in the 2nd half of last season, and into the playoffs.. and then went on to play his heart out in the World Champs for Sweden, has proven to me that it's time he gets a C on his jersey. Pavel may not have been 100% but I wasn't really happy with his performance in the playoffs. There's also the matter of the contracts, Z will be here the rest of his career, for sure. Pavel.. I so hope he re-signs here but it's not for certain. Combine that with Z being better at english and I think the answer is obvious. I absolutely love Pav though and we are lucky to have 2 such great choices for Captain.. Yzerman, Lidstrom, Zetterberg/Datsyuk.. wow. And some teams struggle to even find one player that is fit for the 'C'.
-
Wow what a frustrating game for us Swedes. So many mistakes in the defensive zone, zero powerplays, still fight back to 3-3.. only to lose with 30 seconds left. Per Mårts coaching was awful. Niklas Persson was involved in the winning goal, which says it all. Why is a 4th liner even out there when there's 30 seconds left of the game?? Zetterberg deserved better. He was ******* sick. Well, now I'll root for the Finns. Great win for them against the US, with Filppula being almost the same beast for them as Z for Sweden.

LOL Canada. The road just cleared for Sweden and Russia. Now watch Norway eliminate Russia and the Swedes lose against Czech Rep. Eh, I'd rather see Pav play with Parise, who works a bit on defense too. And if Ovie isn't getting 60-70 goals anymore on Backstrom's wing, he wouldn't with Pav either. Speaking of Datsyuk, it's so clear watching him that he is struggling with his skating. Looks so slow out there a lot of the time. Does some good things now and then, but knowing what he's capable of it's kinda painful seeing him at maybe 60% capacity.

Anyone else notice the Rangers are drafting a LOT better than us?

Good thing no one else is thinking about drafting someone like that. -

This is the first time in god knows how long that the Rangers make it past the 2nd round, and it's the first time in like 6 years that we don't make it past the 1st round.. all of a sudden we are looking at the Rangers as a model organization? Yes they've drafted well, mostly in their North-American drafting where the Wings are not known for being among the best. They've got role-players that fit in with their system. But imo the OP is overrating several guys a lot.. especially someone like Kreider. And Del Zotto has been very up and down, at times terrible and at times great. Most of their drafted players fit the mold of hard-working, shot-blocking, not very skilled, role-player. Credit goes to them for knowing what to look for and finding it. But remember we have Smith, Järnkrok, Pulkkinen, Tatar, Nyquist, Jurco etc. on the way. And I think the Rangers would LOVE to have Helm, or even Abdelkader. -
I would, Holland would, but Colorado would laugh in his face if he suggested it. Landeskog is seen as a future leader of their team, a possible Forsberg/Sakic-type organizational icon.
-
If we need to sign Homer one more year to get Lids one more year as well.. then yeah, sure, I can accept Homer in a 13th/14th-forward role. Honestly though, he's done in the NHL. He's been a warrior, an awesome guy, and a key part of the team the past 15 years, but in the new NHL and at his age, he simply is not effective anymore. With hopefully atleast one or two key signings by Holland, and young guys coming up fighting for roster spots, it's really, really hard to see a place for Homer anymore.
-
I see the loss to Russia as a good thing. Things were going too smooth for the Swedes, and you're not gonna go through an entire tournament without a single loss. Now they can make adjustments and come back with a vengeance if they face the Russians again. But yeah, the goalies are an issue. Fasth was good last year but not this year. But maybe they need to keep playing him so he can get into a groove, instead of switching between him and Enroth.
-
...and this is why 99% of NHL players only give boring cliché answers to every question asked by reporters. I understand they're disappointed with his play this year, but when goalie after goalie puts up terrible numbers for them, maybe it's time to realize a bit of the blame is on the defense, not on the goalie's personality.

Loui Eriksson is terribly underrated. Great two-way player, hard worker, scoring touch... I too wish there was a way we could get him to Detroit. I'd almost, ALMOST, take him over Parise. He seems to have instantly developed a good chemistry with Z too. Great fun to watch that line play.
