Weiss isn't even playing which is why we need Legwand. I'm ASSUMING this means at least one of Helm or Datsyuk will be out a long time. Maybe both. It's a rental, he's a decent player. It's a good trade as long as we didn't have to give up a 1st or a decent prospect. We almost 100% needed to pick up help on center if we're gonna be without Datsyuk and Helm. And IF by some miracle we make the playoffs, Legwand could help us there too.

If you really think so you know very little about hockey. Not only could those 3rd and 5ths turn into players like Jurco, Tatar, Nyquist, Oullet, Sproul etc. , but Weaver and Hemsky would not fill any need we have on the team right now.

Hard to compete with the legacy of Howe and Yzerman, but Lidstrom probably has a good case for Greatest Wing of All Time in terms of his impact on the team's success. Wings were a cup contender for almost every season he played here. They weren't before him or after him.

If we have no one else who could have scored those two goals we are in worse trouble than I thought. Please tell me you don't think Bert's actually been good these two games. He's terribly slow and kills a lot of powerplays even if he can be okay once we get set up and he's in front of the net. I'd really like to reward Pulkks and Hook with NHL callups. Deadline is today, roster limit is lifted and we're short a couple of top 6 forwards. If we're gonna risk missing the playoffs at least take a look at our kids to get a better idea of what we have for next season.

Because none of them fill a need? If we're to trade it's for quality. A true top 4 d-man or MAYBE a top 6 forward if the price is reasonable.

What's the word on Helm? I hope Ericsson, Kronwall and Howard get their stuff together.

Gut feeling is YES, we will make a move. Could be minor, could be major. Wings seem to be involved in a lot of rumors and I think Holland knows that without Zetterberg the danger of missing the playoffs is the most real it's been during the streak. Personally I don't understand why Holland is interested in Kesler. But Edler or Ehrhoff would be huge additions to our team. Asking price will probably be high but if we could limit it to Andersson/Kindl+good prospect+pick I would bite. Highly doubtful we can though.

So, it would be called "Hockey-Arena Bjorn" ? This needs to happen.

Osgood has been our most disappointing prospect this season. He has the tools, but no toolbox. But Murphy was as bad, if not worse. We should start a petition to get Homer signed by FSD next season.

They gave him a really good look this last training camp. I'm sure they'll do the same before next season, but unless he blows everyone out of the water he'll be in GR. With Jurco and Sheahan both looking like locks for next year's roster there won't be much room to throw in Mantha, and I doubt he's ready anyway. Let's not forget the jump to the AHL can be plenty difficult for many players.

That Tatar goal reminds me so much of Zetterberg to Datsyuk in Dallas, I think it was 2007. These kids are alright. If we get one or two of our AHL defensive prospects to step up in the same manner next season we'll be a force.

Pretty much. Thought the Sens were the better team up until that. Wings looked a bit disorganized. They sure used that goal as fuel though and for once they took what was given to them and made the Sens pay. So great to see Mule score 2. Gotta be great for him, and we need his confidence to be high the rest of the way. Now if only Pavel could start looking like himself we'd be dangerous.

Give it to Montreal, despite being heavily outplayed for 50 minutes they managed to limit the # of quality chances and played an almost perfectly clean game (....), and got rewarded with a point. Thankfully, the hockey gods were just in this one and we got the 2 points we deserved. Good for Nyquist, he was great all game and definitely made his case for being more than a 4th line player. Bertuzzi got the goal, but as expected was awful other than that. I hope he's out of the lineup for good soon. Good defensive effort overall. Kronwall and Ericsson can play so much better though. Like it or not, Quincey is playing well. Dekeyser was also great tonight.

The one time we shouldn't have Tatar and Jurco on the ice, last minute, protecting a 1-goal lead. Sloppy coaching, even if I like that Babs trusts that group. But what sticks in my head is that we got only 1 PP. That's terrible. Okay, let's get the extra point...somehow.

I think you're exaggerating. Other than Bert on the 1st line that's a good lineup. I think Bert may be getting his last chance here. He's been good with Pavel before, he needs to be again if he wants to play when Weiss returns.

Ouch. So that's it for his season. Really unfortunate, I was hoping to see more of him. Hope the Wings give him a real chance to make the team next season. Righ-handed shot, qualities in both offense and defensive game and he has more experience than most of our GR d-men. There's also the russian connection with him and Pav, could be good for both of them.

Unsure about that 1st line. Datsyuk looked good for the most part in the Olympics, but he's certainly not 100% and isn't skating with his usual jump. Franzen hasn't played much in a long time and probably isn't up to speed quite yet. And Bertuzzi is the slowest player in the NHL. Could be a line that struggles, though it could also be good if they get the puck under control in the offensive zone. Nyquist on the 4th line only makes sense because he and Andersson have good chemistry, and that line would be too slow if you put Bert on it. 3rd obviously should stay together and Abby-Helm-Alfie have been good in the past. Anyway, I'm hyped to start things up again. Right back to must-win games. Hopefully with the Olympics over guys like Howard, Kronwall and Ericsson can be 100% focused because we need them to be better and more consistant than they've been over the last month or two. edit: as for Sproul, I don't think we should throw him in right now. It's the first game back and you don't want to be messing too much with the lineup. Sproul's defensive game still needs a lot of work from what I've read, so I feel like we should bring up Almqvist if we want a d-man that can give us more offense.

I'll never understand the attitude of "Gold is all that matters". I'd be proud as hell over an Olympic Bronze or Silver medal. Erik Karlsson was probably upset after the loss. He's young, he hasn't been in many big games like that. I would think as he gets older he'll realize how few his chances of even getting an Olympic medal are, and that looking back on bronze or silver beats looking back on nothing.

Sweden was missing too many high-end players to hang with Canada. Needed at least Backstrom, but really when we lost Zetterberg I felt we lost the chance to win Gold. Good tournament by Canada, that defense is really impressive.

Hopefully this gives him a break from back issues at least. Would be great if he could get a few seasons of good health.

US team peaked too early. Game against Russia was their gold medal game. Still surprised they went scoreless the last two games.

I'm no doctor, but I'm glad they sound positive about this procedure and his recovery.
