Wings sign Carlo Colaiacovo to 2 year deal, $2.5m cap hit

This signing annoys me for no other reason than that he is the third player on this roster to have worn the cursed Maple Leafs sweater in recent years.

    2012 Lockout Watch

While he may be a "mouthpiece", his duties and responsibilities are far more reaching than simply conveying what owners have to say. He is the final word in the NHL, and to assume he is simply a lame duck is incorrect. Does he take orders and influence from owners? Absolutely. But the owners need one person to give them a vision and their trust is given to Bettman in order make the right decisions to see it through on a number of different levels, some seen, some unseen.

So then why would they give a contract extension to the man who proposed the salary cap and brought in these small market teams? And if any of the NHL's teams fold during this off-season, I shudder to even try and imagine the legal fallout that would encompass the entire league.

    2012 Lockout Watch

While I see the point you're trying to make, I think it's a little off. There has to be a majority board support in order for the small market teams to even be considered let into the league. So by your reasoning, the same board members who voted these teams in are the same ones who want them out now?!

    2012 Lockout Watch

When, not if, the players get locked out, it will officially mark the end of my support of the NHL. I'm 30 years old and I live in Southern Ontario, so if the NHL feels the need to stop work then I can more than compensate with the OHL at far more reasonable prices. There is no justifyable reason for me to come back to a league that clearly has no regard for its fans and eats itself alive. And for the record, I'm not giving up or abandoning the Detroit Red Wings, I'm giving up on the league they play in.
  12. I've never been to any sporting event where supporters are split entirely to separate sides. I'm pretty sure that's "sportsism".
  13. FOR SALE: Four (4) tickets to the Great Lakes Invitational at Comerica Park on December 27th, 2012. Section 133, Row 30, Seats 9, 10, 11, 12 Make me an offer and we'll talk.
  14. Yup. Same here. And unless you completely fill out your profile BEFORE you purchase the tickets, they just list your postal/zip code as the shipping address. I'll be calling in tomorrow to sort it out however.... I'M GOING TO THE WINTER F**KING CLASSIC AT THE BIG HOUSE *******!!!!!!! Also, seeing as I am in Whitby, I now have 4 GL Invitational tickets for sale since the 27th is far too early for me and my friends to venture down.
  15. Got my email, tried entering every password I thought I used, locked my account. Derp. Calling later to sort everything.
  16. I don't know what everyone is getting so worked up about. It's almost as if people believe that the season will start on time and be an entire 82 games or something. Relax people, all the Wings have to do is ride out 50-60 games which will give Holland and company plenty of time to make moves/signings for 2013-14. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
  17. The Preds just slammed Weber's head into the glass. Love it.

    Red Wings Alumni Showdown Roster

No Larionov thus far. If this means his daughters aren't showing up either, I'm boycotting this entire weekend. Go ahead and call my bluff.
  20. Waiting to see what the cap hit is before I comment...
  21. I may be completely out of my element here, but the players are in a "union" correct? Why isn't there a pay structure set up for all players involved so that nobody's salary is different unless you have more experience? I work in a union that's what I have to deal with. Maybe set up a 5-10 year pay structure with bonus money being awared for performances instead of paying for "potential" up front. Radical, but just a rambling.

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

    - There's no such thing as elite teams any more. - The Pens may not have as much remaining cap, but they don't need to fill as many holes as the Wings. - Comparing playoff appearances between the two teams is a bit unrealistic. Also, the length of time the Wings have stayed in the playoffs each year has declined since they won the Cup.

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

Thank the baby jeebuz that neither of those two players reads these boards when deciding which team to join. Some of the stuff so far in this 18 page wunderthread is gold. lol
  24. Until he logs minutes in the NHL, I'm not equating anything he's done in Europe to potential NHL points. That's pretty fair I think. The Wings rolled the dice on Leino and Brunnstrom, both of whom had some great numbers in their respective leagues, and neither panned out. I don't know why you're being dramatic, I just simply see a lot of parallels with the last two undrafted European players the Wings have tried to reclaim. I hope he excels, but recent history says otherwise. All I said was that the situation reminded me of Ville Leino. You used "stillborn". That was an association you made, not me. I don't know if it was directed at my comment, but I just find it curious that the Wings are hyping this player so much without even seeing him play a single NHL shift. Maybe it's a tactic they're using to drive prices down for top line forwards. Who knows
  25. This has "Ville Leino" written all over it...
