    Injury Updates

I really hope we do get to see a healthy Weiss this year. The Wings really need to know what type of player he is. If he is still a shell of his former self, then we have some (limited) options for getting rid of him this summer, and keeping Legwand, who is a better, potentially cheaper version of Weiss. If Weiss is healthy and rejuvenated and starts making an impact then we hang on to him, but I don't want to have the same problem as this year where we start the season with ten thousand forwards signed. Very happy about the positive news on Datsyuk, I just hope he's fully healthy this time.

    Perspective

They may have started the season this way, but after a month or two of all of us complaining, Babcock DID scratch Cleary and Bert, and the team DID waive Sammy. Z, D, Nyquist and Sheahan have all been in the lineup at the same time this season, so it is not a matter of either/or. People get mad at Babcock/Holland for the opening day roster - understandably - but no one ever mentions how the old guys got scratched/waived in favor of the youngsters once they got their chance. People make mistakes - even coaches - and are allowed to correct those mistakes. Babs hand might have been forced a bit by the injuries, but its not as though he is going to send Nyquist and Sheahan back to the minors once Cleary is healthy again....

    Detroit D performance

The Wings really need more scoring from the D. While Smith has finally found his groove, Kindl has regressed/stalled out. Quincey has got to go. The rest are keepers. I just wish there was more available in FA.
  5. Without reading through 39 pages, what does this mean for the salary cap? If both Weiss and Zetterberg eventually come back the Wings are waaay over the cap. Does this trade mean the Wings are basically admitting Z won't be back at all this season no matter what?

Pekka Rinne cleared to play, sent to Admirals for conditioning

Can't believe I held on to him all year in my fantasy league. Hope it paid off! Glad to see that he's healthy again though, always been a fan of his and think he has the potential to be one of the best in the league.

    Zetterberg out with herniated disc

Best of luck in the coming months of recovery for Z. Seems like the surgery went as well as it possibly could have, and they found what was wrong and fixed him. I even read that Z will be up and walking TODAY, which seems remarkable. Scary that our playoff hopes might hinge on.... Stephen Weiss... of all players. We need him to come back healthy and rejuvenated and actually have an impact in the games. I know Pavel will be Pavel, just have to hope all the injury trouble is behind him. It will be an interesting race, that's for sure.

Official 2014 Olympic Hockey Thread (Admin warning #316)

I liked the way they played in the second half of the game, but yeah, they were clearly the inferior team and not ready to go. I hate to agree with Pierre McGuire, but kind of some baffling omissions by the Czech front office. Hudler and Vrbata are both very capable offensive players and would have helped a lot. Fun game, the Wings players played pretty well. Better get some coffee brewing for this USA game.

    Injury Updates

Huh? Franzen was playing pretty excellent before he got hurt. The only "good" thing about it is that, as someone mentioned above, it helps us very temporarily with the cap situation that Holland put us in with the Clearmuelsstuzzi contracts as we can keep Mule on LTIR when Weiss comes back.

    Lines Thread

Weiss coming back jumbles up the whole cap situation, which unfortunately means the kids will be sent down. I actually hold out some hope for Weiss being better than he was (he couldn't be any worse, I guess) and I am one of the few Franzen supporters out there, so I will be very happy to have him back, he was playing great before the concussion. If there was any way to get rid Bertuzzi and Cleary, I'd be all for it, but they don't give us any cap relief by just waiving them.

Well considering the only other player on the team (Datsyuk) who would have a shot at outscoring Z has missed even more games than him... and considering that everyone else on the team not named Miller, Quincey, and Cleary have missed a ton of time, it isn't THAT surprising. I love that lineup tonight, let us see if we can finally get some wins in Florida this season.

    All movie Character team

Bombay on the first line is questionable with his injury history. Not sure his knee can handle those minutes. I might add some speed to that top line with a Luis Mendoza type player, that kid is crazy fast. Also if there's any way we can pry Gunner Stahl from iceland, we'd be unstoppable. I know they'd never let him go, but we have some good prospects coming up. You think Aberman, Julie the Cat, and a 2nd would do it? Edit: Any relation between Connor Banks of Mystery Alaska and cake-eater Adam Banks of District 5?

    The Hudler Factor

Tatar is a better version of what Hudler is, and Tatar tries harder too. Now, would I rather have Hudler than, say, Cleary? Or Bert? Yes. But if Hudler was here it would just mean one of Tatar or Nyquist wouldn't be on the team.

    Is it 1970 again?

I think this team is a lot better than it has looked so far, if nothing else than because of all the injuries. I also think we will better next year than we are this year, especially now that we've seen how well the young guys are progressing. Even without signing a single free agent in the off season, this team gets better by shedding a lot of dead weight. Call me crazy, but I actually like the direction the Wings are headed.

    1/16 GDT : Red Wings 0 at Rangers 1

We seriously need to fire whoever the hell is training these guys. With this many groin injuries, there HAS to be some correlation to what they're doing off the ice. Players young, old, big, small have all pulled their groins for the Wings season. Something's gotta change.
  23. Somehow my hate for the Ducks has subsided a bit, its weird. Even before the series last year, I didn't seem to dislike them as much as years past. They have a really good team this year and play very well as a group. I agree they probably aren't as strong overall as Chicago or St. Louis, but I could still see them going deep. They seem to be only lacking that true number 1 dman, like they had with Pronger and/or Niedermeyer back when they won the cup.

    1/16 GDT : Red Wings 0 at Rangers 1

Thanks for the GDT Hockeytown! Ericsson should also be on the injured list still, and Tatar is a scratch due to his father's funeral. While I've already said this a few times this year..... I'm not sure I've seen a Wings lineup this bad since the dark days. If you were to tell me before the season that at some point this year we'd have a second line of Jurco-Sheahan-Bertuzzi.... I would have laughed in your face. Luckily, Sheahan and Jurco have looked great, and I enjoy watching them play. We need a big one tonight, boys. LGW
